Dear Sir --
I was browsing the BATF web site and came across
an area of the FAQs that seems to imply that BATF is attempting to reframe the
Second Amendment right to bear arms into a Privilege (See http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/faq/index.htm
Restoring Gun Privileges). I can not believe that this type of transgression
can be allowed to go un-challenged, and although the web page contains information
relevant to convicted Felons, the use of the word privilege rather than stating
it as the restoration of a right is rather dangerous. Once the common language
for a right becomes "privilege" it is that much easer to have "public"
acceptance of "regulation" restricting the right. But of course you
are all to aware of this already.
I was wondering if this would be a good topic
for a commentary or article on your web sight, I for one would enjoy good scholarly
writing on this issue.
Thank you for your site and patriotism,
Garth R. Leadbetter
