Pleasing Everyone--well, almost...
Dear Madame Corinne Wood:
I have visited your web site and
viewed the list of groups one could join: http://www.woodforgovernor.com/contents/volunteer/community.shtml
.
You have covered all sides of the
political spectrum: there are Fiscal Conservatives for Wood and
Democrats for Wood, Independents for Wood, so only Libertarians
are missing.
The list really gives a broad choice:
there are "Pro-Life voters for Wood" and "Pro-choice voters for
Wood", so it is totally impossible to understand whether you are pro-life
or pro-choice, fiscal conservative, or Democrat, or do not have your own position,
and just trying to get votes from all sides.
The choice of nationalities is also
very broad: There are "Germans for Wood", "Greeks for Wood",
Irish, Italian, Indians, Norwegians, Swedes, and Slovaks. I did not find "Russians
for Wood", but I am not sure why Russians would vote for Wood, they have
President Vladimir Putin. Maybe you meant German Americans, Greek Americans,
etc?
The choice of Americans of different
heritage is also broad: there are "African-Americans for Wood", "Arab-Americans
for Wood", "Asian-Americans for Wood", "Croatian-Americans
for Wood", "Polish-Americans for Wood", but there are no "Americans
for Wood", which I thought is really a big group in Illinois.
I have an impression that your web
site discriminates on a base of gender: there are "Moms for Wood"
but no "Dads for Wood". Also I am not sure if I were female and an
attorney, should I sign for "Women Lawyers for Wood" or just "Lawyers
for Wood"? Is a woman lawyer not a lawyer?
The choice of professions is also
very strong: from Bankers for Wood to Bikers for Wood.
I was especially impressed with Firefighters for Wood. Unfortunately
there is one group I was specifically interested in: the "Group to Restore
the Second Amendment and Respect the Constitution", or the "People
for the Right to Self-Defense from criminals and terrorists for Wood",
which I would be happy to join, but could not find.
There is, however, on the very top
of the list is the Anti-Gun Violence Supporters. I am not sure about
the meaning of this term. Recently one of the activists of the Million Moms
March was convicted for shooting and seriously injuring a totally innocent man.
She is surely Anti-Gun and at the same time Violence Supporter.
There is no way I am going to join that group.
The only group I surely belong to
is Men for Wood, but I am not sure what are you going to do for
this special interest group. Unfortunately, I was not able to find a group suitable
for me, therefore I am not able to support you at this time.
Sincerely,
Vladimir Kushnir, Ph.D.
