as: Robert Pettway faced a gun-toting homeowner -
not just an arrest - in a Monday incident in which police said he broke into a
house in the 200 block of Williams Street in Prichard.
Pettway, 20, of Prichard was shot once in the
leg. He was treated and released at the University of South Alabama Medical
Center, said Harry McGadney, city spokesman.
Pettway, along with an unnamed 14-year-old, was
charged with second-degree burglary. No charges were filed against the
homeowner, McGadney said.
McGadney said the two suspects went in the
front door of the home at about 10:30 a.m. and attacked the homeowner, who
police declined to name. The homeowner's gun discharged and hit Pettway in the
leg, McGadney said. The leg wound was "superficial,"
McGadney said. He did not know whether the gun was fired on purpose or by
accident.
McGadney did not know the extent of the
reported attack on the homeowner, but said the homeowner was not taken to the
hospital.
The suspects did not know the homeowner was
inside when they entered the residence, police said.
Pettway was taken to Mobile County Metro Jail
where he remained Monday evening. The juvenile was taken to Strickland Youth
Center.
