DETROIT -- A
Wayne County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man breaking into her west side
home early Friday, Detroit police said.
The 38-year-old deputy, who works in the Wayne
County Jail, was in her bedroom in the 18400 block of Woodingham near Curtis
around 7 a.m. when she heard a sound coming from an upstairs window. She
investigated and told police she saw someone attempting to break into her home.
Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy Chief Ralph
Kinney said the deputy has been with the department for 14 years. He would not
release her name pending completion of the Detroit police investigation. The
dead man's name also was withheld.

who gave the original story a title involving a "deputy" killing a
home break-in prepetrator may think the fact that she was a deputy made the
difference. We, on the other hand, hold that it was the GUN the ended the bad
guy's day -- not her badge or job title.
