Shooter won't be charged in
slaying of intruder

DALLAS, TEXAS -- A Far East Dallas man who shot
and killed an intruder will not face murder charges in the March incident, a
Dallas County grand jury has ruled.
Elijah Owens, 45, was not indicted in the
shooting of 30-year-old Tommy Jordan, who kicked open Mr. Owens' front door
before dawn on March 19 after falsely identifying himself as a police officer.
Mr. Owens told police he fired on the intruder
at his house in the 2900 block of Healey Drive.
Mr. Jordan's body was discovered about an hour
later at Forney and Hunnicut roads, according to police reports. Homicide
detectives said they recovered a weapon near his body.
Police said Mr. Jordan also had injuries
consistent with those of someone who fell out of a moving car. Witnesses told
police they saw someone else running from the house and driving away with the
intruder.
