We defend ourselves thousands of times a day. This week, we look at four recent examples of armed defense.

Are you armed at home, at work, as you drive, and in public? What would you do if you were in a situation like these?

Washington committed a violent, totally unprovoked assault against Cranston, Sali wrote. Washington had absolutely no right or justification to do that. And Cranston had no legal obligation to allow a large, powerful man to continue viciously striking him in the head.

After Washington began the assault and gave every indication of an intent to continue it, Cranston had a clear legal right to draw his firearm in an attempt to deter his attacker, the defense attorney says. As the indisputable video evidence shows, the single shot was fired only after Washington having clearly seen that Cranston was armed disregarded that fact and, completely undeterred, continued his assaultive conduct.

When Jeff Wild is using 2,200-degree heat to forge guns into garden tools, he needs to be careful when dunking the scalding gun in water to cool it off.

Working with a hollow piece of steel has a higher risk of injury, he said, because steam shoots through the barrel.

But maybe thats necessary when converting what he called a tool of violence into an instrument that brings life a dangerous energy departs before a full conversion.

Everyone who has embraced the idea of providing for their own protection has gone on a journey of self-discovery before arriving at the decision to carry a firearm. This isnt a decision to take casually. Carrying a firearm for self-defense, after all, isnt just empowering, it is also a great responsibility. People who take on this burden need to be safe, mature and vigilantand they are. Again and again, studies on people who have concealed-carry permits indicate that armed citizens in America are safe, law-abiding people.

In the New Year, Ill be advocating for fundamental civil liberties

My two big advocacy issues for 2022 will be sustaining support of self-defense and opposing mandates done throughout this year. Both of those are integral for maintaining individual liberty and true security in America.

Ive called self-defense the last civil right for years because its the most basic and potentially risky, exercise of autonomy. Despite its being the most fundamental human right of all, a self-defender courts injury, death and, for extra credit, criminal prosecution and civil liability.

You walk to your car on the way to work. It is 6:15 when you open your car door. That is when a middle-aged Hispanic man runs up and grabs you. He has a knife in his hand and he tells you to step away from your car and give him your keys. Youre armed. You drop your keys and step to the side. You present your concealed firearm and shoot your attacker several times. Now he stumbles back and drops his knife. You stop shooting. The news story doesnt say if you called 911 from your driveway or if you went back inside your home to call for help.

National groups began the year with the high hopes of further restricting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans. To them, it wasnt about God-given rights enshrined in the Constitution or even about personal and community safety. To them its all about control.

But those hopes were decidedly dashed every step of the way throughout 2021 as law-abiding Americans fully embraced the Second Amendment, including millions who jumped off the fence and purchased a gun for the first time.

Americans handed gun control a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year.

There is an important case being considered by the United States Supreme Court. The case hinges on the fact that government officials in New York State can choose whether to give ordinary citizens a license to carry a concealed firearm in public. About one in a dozen of us carry in public now. That isnt true in New York State where ordinary people are denied the right to carry personal firearms in public. Also, consider the fact that New York has arrested people who tried to pass through the state with a firearm. Now the case in front of the US Supreme Court takes on a different character.

Few gun owners are turning in weapons recently been made illegal by the Canadian government.

Thats according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). They said Canadians had only turned in 160 of the recently-outlawed firearms for destruction since the announcement of the ban.

The Canadian Firearms Program (CFP) can confirm that, as of December 9, 2021, 18 firearms (formerly classified as restricted) affected by the May 1, 2020 Order in Council (OIC) have been deactivated, Sgt. Caroline Duval, an RCMP spokesperson, told iPolitics on Friday. In addition, there have been 142 OIC-affected firearms recorded as surrendered to a public agency for destruction since May 1, 2020.

Last year, Nevada legislators passed AB 286, an anti-gun bill that would have made some elements of home gunsmithing illegal under a broad banner definition. As it was passed, the bill would have prohibited a person from possessing, purchasing, transporting or receiving an unfinished frame or receiver of a firearm or assembling a firearm without a serial number. The law was set to go into effect this month and the punishment for violating it is a criminal mis-demeanor with repeat offenders receiving felony charges. If that sounds like a vague description with a severe punishment, its because it is and Lyon County District Court Judge John Schlegelmilch agreed.

The Nevada legislature passed and Governor Sisolak signed into law AB 286 on June 7, 2021. On June 22, Polymer80 filed a lawsuit challenging AB 286 as unconstitutionally vague, under the due process clause of the Nevada Constitution.

Both Polymer80 and the State of Nevada filed Motions for Summary Judgement, and opposition to the opponents Motion for Summary Judgement, in a timely manner.

The anti-gun crowd will use several different strategies to change the narrative around guns, and encourage as many people as possible to join them in spreading irrational gun fear. Sometimes, bold terms are used to influence unsuspecting victims. Weve all heard the scary terms, Assault-Weapon, Weapons of War, High-Capacity, Wild West, and the big daddy term Gun Violence. We know theres no such thing as gun violence, only human violence, but the anti-gun crowd doesnt want to talk about human violence because they know that it would reflect poorly on the policies they support.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin Historical Review of Pennsylvania. [Note: This sentence was often quoted in the Revolutionary period. It occurs even so early as November, 1755, in an answer by the Assembly of Pennsylvania to the Governor, and forms the motto of Franklin's "Historical Review," 1759, appearing also in the body of the work. Frothingham: Rise of the Republic of the United States, p. 413. ]
