Well, that was quick. I wonder if the injunction was written before the opinion was actually published.

Pupils and others who carry weapons onto school property could face tougher penalties under two proposals before a House committee.

One bill would make it a class misdemeanor to have a firearm in a safe school zone, but would include exceptions for police officers and hunters. The penalty could be a fine or jail up to one year.

The other would make it a misdemeanor for pupils who bring any "deadly weapons" to school.

Hand guns were outlawed in Britain in 1997 after the massacre of 16 children and a teacher at a primary school in Dunblane, Scotland. Some 160,000 handguns were surrendered to police.

Dave Rodgers, vice chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation, said the ban made little difference to the number of guns in the hands of criminals. According to a recent survey, the number of crimes in which a handgun was reported increased nationally from 2,648 in 1997-98 to 3,685 in 1999-2000.

Cuomo is best known for such kooky left-wing HUD schemes as blowing taxpayer's money on "new age" nonsense and gun buybacks. Will so-called feminists object to Flynt's involvement? Of course not; they don't even care if there's a rapist in the White House, as long as he's a pro-abortion Democrat.

"Do you want to buy a cruise missile?"

That's a little gun joke from Habib Ullah, of the Mushtaq Hussain and Sons Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers in Peshawar, Pakistan. Though he didn't have cruise missiles, he proudly displayed his wares: pistols, double-barrelled and pump-action shotguns for about $50 apiece.

"We need guns to protect ourselves, to defend our families."

It was easier to explain things when murder rates were going up. People could point to video games, violent and amoral television, to guns, to drugs, to permissiveness, to poverty, to demographics and the decline of civilized standards. But when the number of murders in Seattle falls to the lowest point in 25 years, as it did in 2001 then what?

More than 65,000 foreigners declared 89,820 firearms as they entered Canada last year, but the federal government has no idea how many are still in the country, says the Canadian Alliance gun control critic.

Yorkton-Melville Canadian Alliance MP Garry Breitkreuz said that's what he has learned through Access to Information requests from the RCMP and Canada Customs, which revealed almost 90,000 guns were declared but never registered or tracked by the RCMP.

Pittsburgh police seized 364 "illegal" guns in arrests last year, part of a "stepped-up effort to get firearms off the streets."

The number of guns recovered in arrests was 95 more than the 269 recovered in 2000, the first year the Police Bureau began keeping such statistics.

Another 254 guns were recovered without arrests, including weapons seized during service of protection-from-abuse orders or found discarded on the streets.

KABA NOTE: Perhaps if they actually concentrated on CRIME instead of guns, their crime rate would actually decrease significantly.

There were legitimate fears that making it possible for more people to carry concealed weapons legally would result in a huge increase in gun mayhem.

Except in neighboring Macomb County, Michigan residents were forced to prove a need to carry guns in order to be awarded permits.

But as of last July 1, the state changed the law so that residents are presumed entitled to such permits unless they are determined to be unqualified. One example would be because of a criminal record.

With a gun trade about to take place, the atmosphere was predictably tense and the participants very nervous.

Sousa, the man with the merchandise, smiled nervously as he talked in hushed tones to Guerra, the man who had come to collect.

The door of Sousa's two-roomed house remained firmly locked thoughout -- he did not want neighbours knowing about his illegal weapons or his past as a guerilla fighter in Mozambique's vicious 17-year civil war.
