Owning a gun reflects the understanding of taking the very first responsibility that no one else can take for you, and it is where it all begins."

Self-defense is what activists call a safety-net for the target of a crime, and assert that legislation affirming the rights of the target of a crime are not needed. "A common refrain of the anti-gun crowd are repeated calls for 'reasonable' gun control designed to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the so-called mentally ill. We already know there is no such thing as 'reasonable' gun control, yet the attempt of the anti-gun crowd to vilify people with mental illness is typical of their willingess to exploit just about anything to push their immoral agenda."

"Counter rebutting Scott Dixon's anti-gun commentary (see Dec. 19 Tidings 'A gun tax would reduce the number of firearms and deaths') isn't difficult. The distorted myths blaming firearms for huge economic losses, medical costs, homicides, suicides and considerably more evil has already been debunked by Jews For The Preservation of Firearms Ownership, Inc. (www.jpfo.org). JPFO, Inc. isn't affiliated with the National Rifle Association. Any free-thinking honest reader can access, research, and study JPFO's articles and learn quickly the socialist/collectivist anti-gun agenda is not only people control, but likewise class warfare of a political elite against honest working-class Americans, many of whom are innocent gun owners!" ...

"Homicide statistics for 2008 in Seattle do not justify a proposal by anti-gun Mayor Greg Nickels to ban legally-carried handguns from public property, nor his plan to lobby for a change in the state's preemption law, the Bellevue-based Second Amendment Foundation said today."

"'Less than half of Seattle's homicides in 2008 involved firearms,' noted SAF founder Alan Gottlieb, 'and about one-third were gang-related. Yet Mayor Nickels would have the public believe there is a dire need to violate state statute and the civil rights of law-abiding gun owners ...'"

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
We'll take one step at a time, and the first is necessarily - given the political realities - very modest. We'll have to start working again to strengthen the law, and then again to strengthen the next law and again and again. Our ultimate goal, total control of handguns, is going to take time. The first problem is to slow down production and sales. Next is to get registration. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and ammunition (with a few exceptions) totally illegal. Pete Shields, founder of Handgun Control, Inc., New Yorker Magazine, June 26, 1976, pg. 53
