"I understand some have differences, but those are not with JPFO itself, and thats important enough for me not to automatically abandon my inclination to do what I can to help the organization survive, thrive and grow. If you dont agree, Ill not waste any more of your time trying to persuade you. Stop reading and go in peace. This message is intended for those of you who would like to join me in doing what we can to help this entity called JPFO." |

Republicans are moving fast to repeal gun-control legislation Colorado Democrats passed two years ago in response to mass shootings. The GOP hopes they'll have the momentum necessary to succeed with more members at the statehouse.
Among the first bills introduced when the legislative session started this week were measures to strike laws that limit the size of ammunition magazines to 15 rounds and require background checks on firearms sold online and between private sellers. |

Over the next week, Governor Rick Snyder (R) has the opportunity to sign a bill that will benefit law-abiding gun owners across Michigan.
Senate Bill 789, which passed the legislature by significant margins, seeks to create a more efficient and uniform concealed pistol licensing process for all Michiganders. The NRA, along with other pro-Second Amendment organizations and numerous law-enforcement officials, supports the signing of SB 789. |

With passage of a new Pennsylvania law this past fall, townships and boroughs across the Commonwealth have hastened to revise or repeal local gun regulations.
Lower Merion Township will not be joining them.
After a two-hour discussion Jan. 7 during which emotions often ran high, the board of commissioners declined to begin a process to revise a provision of code that addresses the carrying or discharge of firearms in township parks, despite the threat of a lawsuit.
The township, like many other municipalities, had recently received a letter from an attorney representing a gun rights organization indicating it could face a costly legal challenge of existing code. |

With terrorists rampaging through Paris for a second time this week after gunmen massacred 12 victims in the Charlie Hebdo attack, at least four more victims are dead as panic grows across the city and even the nation of France. And thanks to draconian gun-control laws severely infringing on the French peoples right to keep and bear arms, actual and potential victims of the ongoing slaughter have been left largely defenseless, to cower in the face of Islamists armed with Kalashnikovs and other weaponry. |

A Medina High School sophomore who was suspended after a fight at school has appealed the punishment, arguing the school should give students a right to defend themselves.
The 15-year-old girls attorney, Brent English, said his client served the suspension but wants it removed from her record. The appeal was filed Jan. 2 in Medina County Common Pleas Court.
The argument theyre trying to make is that students dont have a right to self-defense in schools, and I just think thats wrong, English said. You cant fairly suspend or punish a student for simply defending themselves. |

People who go about legally armed are taught to avoid conflict and confrontation. As people grow older, and hopefully, wiser, they become better practiced at avoiding conflict. Age exacts its toll in exchange. Nearly everyone gets slower; slower reflexes, balance deteriorates, you cannot run as fast. Even though I have maintained a disciplined aerobic program, I am nowhere near as fast as I was only a dozen years ago. Age also makes a person more attractive as a potential victim. If an assailant is aggressive, and faster than you, for even a short sprint, running is not an option. That is what seems to have occurred in this incident in Tyler, Texas. |

he "friend of the court" brief filed by the state of Nebraska and now joined by Wisconsin asks the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn a lower court decision that upheld the San Francisco ordinance.
Wisconsin is the 26th state to add its support to the challenge. In a statement, Schimel called it a "significant" constitutional issue that could define the Second Amendment's right to bear arms.
"We must act, because if the decision by the federal Court of Appeals is not reversed, the precedent it sets could influence policy decisions and court holdings affecting the Constitutional rights of citizens within their homes, not just in the City of San Francisco, but anywhere in America, including Wisconsin," he said. |

By all accounts, I shouldn't have hit the dummy target 300 yards downrange because everything was working against me. For starters, the Las Vegas desert was windy as hell. Factor in that I was shaking thanks to nerves, cold temperatures and the pressure of a camera rolling while I tried something brand-new and you have a recipe for failure. Or should have. While I can barely pull off a headshot in a video game, I nailed one on my first try with TrackingPoint's high-powered, precision-guided rifle. |

Colorado already has such a law. The backers of the Washington initiative now have their sights set on Nevada, and Arizona and Maine are next.
Our rights under the U.S. Constitution are not subject to voter initiatives or unconstitutional fiat masquerading as law.
Background checks cannot be lawfully compelled as a precondition to receiving permission to exercise a right no government, at any level, has the authority to issue or withhold. |

Miami Township police had said last month that three boys accosted two shoppers who were leaving the Dayton Mall after buying a new version of popular Air Jordan shoes on sale Dec. 20.
The 16-year-old who was shot, Jawaad Jabbar, of Middletown, showed "a fully operable and loaded firearm in an attempt to commit an armed robbery," Heck said in a statement.
The shopper, who had a concealed-weapons permit, pulled out his own gun and fired. The shopper remained at the scene and cooperated fully with investigators, Heck said. |

To the foreign or uninitiated visitor, it must appear somewhat peculiar that the most prominent, recognizable, and provocative public figures in all of these United States spend the majority of their time in cities that are indifferent toward their security. Taken together, Washington, D.C., New York City, and Los Angeles host almost all of the more controversial media personalities in America; and, taken together, these cities have some of the worst self-defense laws in the country. |

The attorneys general of 26 states have filed a friend-of-the-court brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to rule on Jackson v. San Francisco, and strike down a San Francisco ordinance requiring guns to be locked up when not in use - even in the home.
The brief poses the question, "Is San Francisco's attempt to deprive law-abiding individuals of immediate access to operable handguns in their own homes any more constitutional than the District of Columbia's invalidated effort to do the same?" |

Something of an Internet snit has erupted over the idea of journalists carrying guns in the wake of the bloody attack in Paris, and a story in Wednesdays Washington Examiner quoting author Emily Miller and opinion columnist Jed Babbin seemed to spark the debate.
Heres what Babbin said in the article that Miller found so offensive: Arming untrained journalists is as bad an idea as arming teachers. Neither is, by experience, training or temperament, capable of bearing arms and using them responsibly. Pistol packing reporters, even in news rooms, is an awesomely bad idea. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin Historical Review of Pennsylvania. [Note: This sentence was often quoted in the Revolutionary period. It occurs even so early as November, 1755, in an answer by the Assembly of Pennsylvania to the Governor, and forms the motto of Franklin's "Historical Review," 1759, appearing also in the body of the work. Frothingham: Rise of the Republic of the United States, p. 413. ] |
