Its a question those of us in the gun writing business often get asked. Whats the best caliber for a self-defense handgun? Those expecting a one-to-three digit answer from me will be disappointed. I respond to their simple question with a complex one. What is the most powerful cartridge that you can shoot accurately and proficiently that comes in a handgun which is comfortable enough to carry that youll carry it all the time? Depending on the person asking, the answer will vary. For some, its a full-sized .357 Mag. or 10 mm Auto. For others, its one of the current .380 ACPs offered in a 9 mm-sized handgun. And in certain cases, its the .22 LR. |

Lets get this part out of the way first: I am not a Fudd. I own lots of rifles and shotguns with synthetic stocks, Ive shot smart scopes, and Ive hunted with AR-style rifles. Plus, Im a Millennial, at least as defined by age. I know that new shooting technology is useful and has its place. But I think that those traditional, wood-stocked bolt-action rifles have their place, too. |

The process for obtaining a firearm license in the United Kingdom is even harder and more invasive than it used to be. Last October, the Tory government issued new statutory guidance relating to firearm licensing and announced that No one will be given a firearms license unless the police have reviewed information from a registered doctor setting out whether or not the applicant has any relevant medical history Extending beyond a medical veto on firearms licenses, the UK Home Office also announced guidance encouraging law enforcement to delve into an applicants social media and financial history when making license determinations. |

In October, Mossberg became one the many companies in 2021 to throw their hat into the large-capacity/micro-compact 9mm handgun ring with the MC2sc. Since I was already familiar with the MC2c and liked it enough to purchase it last year, I was excited to try the new variant to see how it held up to the likes of some of the competition out there. After 100 rounds, I have a nice feel for it and how it compares so far to other micro compacts I tested in 2021. |

When it comes to picking a handgun cartridge for your carry gun or for home defense, you cant go wrong with the 40 Smith & Wesson (S&W) or the 45 ACP.
Both cartridges have faithfully served shooters for decades. The 45 ACP cut its teeth in the trenches of WWI and served the U.S. Military faithfully all the way through Vietnam.

It took until 2008, in District of Columbia v. Heller, for the Supreme Court to affirm that the Second Amendment, which states the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed, does indeed protect an individuals right to do so, outside of militia service and for non-criminal purposes.

A central theme that I often see in Idaho is to default to labels of extremism when discussing Idaho's right spectrum. It's a regular occurrence to read op-eds suggesting that Idaho's right has gone too far to the right and that what we really need is a broad center. But studies from even left-leaning organizations like Pew consistently show that it is in fact the American left that has gone off of the rails. When billions in riot damage and dozens of murders by leftist organizations like Antifa and BLM are labeled mostly peaceful and downplayed, while January 6 is labeled tantamount to Pearl Harbor or September 11, Houston, we have a problem. |
