"As most all 2nd Amendment active people know, when an anti-gun person says something, it is usually an exaggeration, or it contains some hidden methodology that the American public would not normally associate with their wording, or it is just flat out wrong. So when I came across an interview with The Brady Campaigns Paul Helmke, I read it and asked myself, 'Which of those three choices is this?'"
"Yes, every American deplores unnecessary deaths. This includes deaths caused by firearms. Gun owners are no different in this regard and we all should work to limit such tragedies as much as we possibly can. However, let's do the hard work of making society and our families safer in an honest way that respects the Constitution. ..." ... |

"'With action he has taken already in the 110th Congress, as well as his demonstrated leadership in previous Capitol Hill sessions, Rep. Cliff Stearns of Florida is becoming a top spokesman for the rights of America's 80 million law-abiding firearms owners as well as for the interests of the multi-million dollar firearms industry,' gun rights expert John M. Snyder said here today."
"Just last week, during the opening days of the new Congress, Congressman Stearns introduced a bill, H.R. 226, to provide a national standard in accordance with which nonresidents of a State may carry concealed firearms in the state." ... |

"There are a number of laws that gun owners should oppose. The notion of further banning guns would be laughable if it was not so un-Constitutional. Certainly, with a lobotomized anti-gunner like Pelosi back in power, we can expect a renewal attempt of the Clinton gun restrictions that did nothing to deter crime and everything to slow the firearm economy. Additionally, further restrictions are only in the nature of the left to bring about."
"The left sees firearms as unnecessary to personal defense. In fact, it would be awfully strange and indeed difficult for the liberals in control of Congress to ignore their natural calling to ending freedom." ... |

"Over the weekend, a a 13-year old Memphis boy was shot in the head this weekend when he and another teen were playing with a pistol when it went off. With tragic deaths like this occurring more and more frequently, it's time to educate children about dangers not only in the home but in and around our communities as well."
"Danger can be lurking in the home or even on the playground, and education is the key to keeping your young loved-ones safe." ...
"Fire arms are number six on the list of the most likely cause of death in children. Some other dangers not on the list include bike riding, pedestrian issues and water safety." -------
Submitter's Note: From 1999 to 2004, accidental firearms deaths accounted for fewer than 1.7% of accidental deaths among children under 14 in Tennessee. |

"In a nod towards the wishes of Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, a handful of anti-gun measures are slated to come before the 2007/2008 Washington Legislature as the session kicks off this week. Perhaps the most dangerous is House Bill 1026, a measure aimed directly at private firearm sales, which would mandate that all firearms sold at gun shows be transferred through a federally licensed dealer, thereby imposing dealer restrictions on private individuals who are not dealers."
"House Bill 1014 imposes strict penalties should an individual be found guilty of 'unsafe storage of a firearm' ... This measure singles out the storage of firearms for criminalization rather than directing attention towards educating children on the issue of firearms safety." ... |

"Calling Lawrence Preston's fatal shooting of a neighbor's dog an aberration in an otherwise law-abiding life, a McHenry County judge today rejected calls to sentence the former Huntley police officer to jail."
"Instead Judge Joseph Condon placed Preston, 51, on conditional discharge for two years, fined him $2,000 and ordered him to perform 50 hours of community service for a shooting authorities blamed on a longstanding neighborhood feud."
"'This incident is an aberration in the defendant's otherwise acceptable behavior,' Condon said. 'Incarceration or probation would not be appropriate in this case.'"

"The Factoryville Sportsmen's Club, Lake Winola Road, Factoryville, hosted a record number of shooters on Saturday for an International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) event thanks both to the unusually warm weather and to the growth of this sport in our area."
"IDPA events simulate self-defense scenarios and real life encounters. Shooters must draw, fire on a series of targets without hitting any of the restricted targets, reload and holster their pistol. A shooter's score is based upon his time. Any penalty points are added up, divided by two, and added to the time." ... |

"Bruce Beatty isn't shy when it comes to showing off the Colt .45 semi-automatic pistol he keeps strapped to his side. He's just as adamant when explaining why he has the right to do so."
"What really sets off the avid Second Amendment advocate is local governments trying to impose gun laws that conflict with Ohio's constitution. Such bodies, Beatty said, have no right to enforce restrictions greater than those signed into law at the state level." ... |
