"That big yellow school bus takes our children to huge government buildings where most of their waking hours are spent. Where each day begins with an invocation of loyalty to the state. Where their most treasured spiritual values and symbols are banished. Where peer pressure replaces family values. Where the truly important questions of life cant be asked, much less answered. Where pop culture surpasses the classics. Where socialism is taught both in theory and by example. Where conformity and indoctrination are far more important than thinking or reading"
"Libertarians and most conservatives boldly and nobly take a stand for our right to keep and bear arms. Not so we can go duck hunting, but so we can defend ourselves and our families from invasion. And so we can, if necessary, defend our liberty from the possibility of a tyrannical state."
"But what if the tyranny we fear comes to pass grown and nurtured in our very homes?"
"Until we have equal passion for defending our children from the invasion of their MINDS unless we take a bold and noble stand for the separation of SCHOOL and state we will continue to allow our children to be taken from our warm, loving arms." |

Lie #1: "Of all the laws enacted or proposed over the years to curb gun violence, the most sensible and arguably the most effective is the Brady Act, named for the White House press spokesman who was seriously wounded in the 1981 gun assault on then-President Reagan."
"During its 10-year life, the law has blocked hundreds of thousands of gun sales to people barred by law from owning firearms -- felons, domestic abusers, mentally defective persons and those under court restraining orders."
Fact #1: The Brady Bill did NOTHING to decrease firearms homicides. Given that the majority of criminals get their guns through illegal means, the Brady Bill does nothing except prevent legitimate purchases.
Lie #2: "The Brady law seems sure to survive. But a measure that has already passed the House and is now before the Senate could weaken it, by forcing the destruction of records of gun sales within 24 hours of purchase. The current holding period is 90 days, which allows the FBI time to cross-check for illicit sales. A survey last year by the General Accounting Office turned up 228 transactions during a six-month period that should have been blocked but were not."
Fact #2: Under a policy which requires firearm purchase records to be retained for 90 days, the FBI has found that during the first half of the year 2001, the FBI used retained records to initiate 235 firearm-retrieval actions, of which 228 (97 percent) could not have been initiated under the proposed next-day destruction policy.
However, the FBI reports that during the six month period about 2.6 million NICS transactions were processed.
Essentially, out of 2.6 million transactions processed through NICS, 228 firearms wound up in the wrong hands. Thats .009 percent. To call this number insignificant would be an insult to inconsequentiality. It's hardly worth infringing on the rights of millions of law abiding gun owners and treating them like criminals for making a constitutionally protected purchase. |

------- In 2000 there was one firearm death for children ages 0-14, according to data from National Center for Health Statistics, National Vital Statistics System, and three firearm deaths for young adults 15-19.
In 2001, according to the CDC, 1 child between 10-14 committed suicide with a firearm, and 12 so-called "children" ages 15-24 died in that manner. Two supposed "children" died through firearms homicide. So much for the Brady "report card" being an accurate gauge of child safety. |

"In early December, a bullet struck a house on Meadow Lane behind the rifle club. Ballistics tests conducted on a rifle being used at the club's outdoor firing range at the time showed the bullet did not come from that gun, or three other guns the club member turned over to police. The club immediately closed the outdoor range pending an investigation."
"Despite that fact - and the ongoing investigation involving Middletown police, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and the University of Rhode Island crime lab - neighbors, claiming fears for their safety and that of their children, are calling on the town to force changes to or close the club's outdoor firing range. Dozens of residents turned out for a meeting Monday night at Town Hall hoping to speak on the issue, but were frustrated when the Town Council delayed public discussion on the matter, citing the investigation."
"Members of the rifle club were disappointed, too. They almost feel as if they are the hunted - even though no evidence has shown the bullet came from a member's gun and even though there are no substantiated reports of previous problems at the club, which was established 50 years ago (long before most of the houses in the East Meadow subdivision)."

"Clermont County Sheriff A.J. 'Tim' Rodenberg Jr. spent most of Friday studying the new law. He said there is a lot to worry about."
" 'There are a lot of little twists and turns in there that can really trip people up,' Rodenberg said. 'And not just citizens - governmental agencies, too. The first few months are going to be real interesting. We're going to have our hands full, and we're going to have to circle the wagons and be ready for it.' "
"The Ohio Attorney General's Office has its hands full, too. It must create a database in the next 90 days listing everyone found mentally incompetent by an Ohio court." |

"A secret docketing system hiding some sensitive Miami federal court cases from public view has been exposed and is being challenged in two higher courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court."
------- Given the tens of thousands of unconstitutional gun laws and rabid anti-gunner politicians and judges, all gun owners should be aware and watchful of this issue.
Not to mention the fact that government is supposed to be accountable to its citizens, AND that the Constitution guarantees a speedy and PUBLIC trial. |

Does the Bill of Rights in the Constitution of the United States mean anything anymore? No.
------- ""When President Bush travels around the United States, the Secret Service visits the location ahead of time and orders local police to set up 'free speech zones' or 'protest zones,' where people opposed to Bush policies (and sometimes sign-carrying supporters) are quarantined. These zones routinely succeed in keeping protesters out of presidential sight and outside the view of media covering the event." ...
"The Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2004 grants the FBI unprecedented power to obtain records from financial institutions without requiring permission from a judge. Under the law, the FBI does not need to seek a court order to access such records, nor does it need to prove just cause." ...
"The Bush administration said Wednesday it will ask the Supreme Court to quickly reverse a federal appeals court ruling that ordered the release of former Chicago street gang member Jose Padilla, a U.S. citizen who has been held without charges as an 'enemy combatant' for about 19 months." ...

"The curtain is falling on the era of the Glock for the Woonsocket police."
"After arming officers with .45-caliber handguns manufactured by the Austrian company for more than a decade, the department will soon switch to the Sig Sauer P226, a .357 Magnum model of Swiss design."
"The .45-caliber was hailed for its stopping power, but Deputy Police Chief Michael L.A. Houle says the Sig Sauer is a less clunky, easier-to-handle weapon."
"And while the ammunition fired by the Sig Sauer is lighter in weight than the Glock, what it lacks in mass is more than made up by the speed with which it emerges from the weapon, resulting in more overall stopping and penetration power." |

"Local agencies within the Southern District of Alabama are referring more firearms cases to federal officials for prosecution. Homicides in Mobile and Montgomery are down sharply. And according to information from Mobile County Metro Jail inmates, word is spreading among felons that they could face new, harsh punishment if they get caught carrying a gun."
"Authorities attribute those indicators largely to Project ICE -- Isolating the Criminal Element -- the Alabama incarnation of a Department of Justice push known as Project Safe Neighborhoods." ...

Here's another "Hug-a-Thug" editorial by Ed Montini. [email protected].
------- "We just wish that people would think a little bit about whether this was a good idea. Is that want people want? Regular people riding around shooting guns and killing someone over a drill? Who knows where the bullets of the next guy will go? What would happen if an innocent person got killed?"
------- If the law fails people again and again, they have no choice but to defend themselves and their property against thugs. Maybe to some, property is no big deal, but to others, it's what they've earned, it's what they've worked for and it's moral to defend the results of their hard work. |

Armed guards on British planes could be issued with "smart guns" that would fail to fire if they fell into the hands of hijackers.
They would be activated by the fingerprint of the marshal or by wearing an electronic encoded bracelet.
The high-tech solution could address the fears of pilots who are opposed to guns on planes.
The Government wants armed guards on flights after intelligence indicated the al-Qaeda terror network may be planning another atrocity.
Transport Secretary Alistair Darling has met pilots' representatives to discuss the issue. He told the Commons that sky marshals would be deployed "where appropriate". |

"The state Bureau of Criminal Investigation has about three months to build a database of those declared mentally incompetent by Ohio courts so the information is available for sheriffs deciding whether to grant concealed weapons permits." ...
"Applicants will be refused if they are younger than 21, are under indictment or a court protective order, have been convicted of certain crimes, have been legally declared mentally incompetent or are fugitives from justice." ------- It's rather absurd that at 18 years old, one can enlist in the military and be sent overseas to shoot what could be considered an "assault" weapon in Iraq and die, but cannot lawfully carry a gun in Ohio. |

A 24-year-old Army sergeant was removed from an American Airlines flight after an inert land mine was found in his checked baggage, the Transportation Safety Administration said.
TSA screeners noticed the land mine Friday, pulled the bag from the luggage system at Denver International Airport and confiscated the mine, TSA spokesman Mike Fierberg said. No flights were delayed.
The soldier, whose name was not released, could face civil penalties for trying to put a prohibited item aboard a flight, Fierberg said. No criminal charges would be filed, he said.
The man was released by police, but the airline refused to allow him aboard his flight to Dallas, Fierberg said. |

"Guilford County gun owners might soon be asked to holster their weapons nearer to their neighbors' property, as the county commissioners this week will discuss tightening a law governing shooting."
"A county home owner, Linda Stanton, has complained to the commissioners that people living next to her 25-acre horse farm in Whitsett frequently fire guns within feet of her property and sometimes into it, scaring her horses and endangering the lives of the animals and their riders."
"Some of the commissioners are sympathetic and say that as Guilford becomes more urban, the county should adopt laws more in line with those of cities. Other commissioners, however, see the issue as a threat to citizens' constitutional right to bear arms." |

"A stolen unmarked Kenner police car was recovered during a traffic stop in the 1400 block of South Claiborne Avenue in New Orleans early Saturday and its two occupants were arrested, police said."

"At one of New Hampshire's biggest gun shows this weekend, it was easy to find rifles, pistols, knives and various other gear for firearms aficionados."
"It was a lot harder, however, to find someone interested in the state's upcoming Democratic presidential primary -- let alone someone planning to vote in it."
"For outsiders, New Hampshire's primaries are arguably the state's most recognizable feature. But at the gun show on Sunday in Manchester, the Jan. 27 primary was far back on the minds of participants -- many of whom shunned Democrats for their position on gun control."
" 'Because I'm strong on the gun side, I tend to lean Republican,' said Bill Setterlund, an antique firearms vendor."
------- Unfortunately, the Republicans will also deprive you of your rights. They'll just do it more slowly and surreptitiously. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.... We've been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of government himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price. Ronald Reagan |
