"Every law and every election is useful. We were promised that criminals would stop using firearms in Washington State. In theory, criminals would stop using guns because they could not pass the new mandatory background check. In practice the new law didnt stop crime at all. Armed robberies continue in Seattle. Im sure youre stunned, but armed bank robberies continue in Tacoma too. Crime didnt even slow down after the initiative went into effect. Who would have imagined that violent criminals wouldnt obey the next gun law!? Im sure the naive Washington voter is shocked." ... |

If you only follow news in the Left wing echo chamber, you might be tempted to think that Americans have begun turning their backs on gun ownership. Whenever there is one smidgen of data to suggest a decline in sales, the media will latch onto it as proof of a larger trend. The most recent example was when Virginia saw a slight decrease in background checks following three years of exponential growth. Time Magazine, just last summer, went so far as to list guns as one of the ten things people just arent buying anymore. (Along with cereal, gum and bread. Really?) But is there any truth to this?
The NRAs Institute for Legislative Action takes a look at the actual figures and finds the claims to be less than substantive.

I saw this morning that Donald Trump has lambasted the French for their strict gun control laws, stating that, If the people so violently shot down in Paris had guns, at least they would have had a fighting chance.
Hes right, to a point, but he doesnt understand the basic fact that French citizens dont want a fighting chance. Thats too much personal responsibility for them to bear.
For the French to have a fighting chance, Trump would first have to get it into the heads of French civilians that armed self-defense is something imperative to the security of both their nation, and imperative to the security of their individual lives. As a culture, they refuse to consider that possibility |

Like his boss, former Mayor Michael Bloomberg , John Feinblatt is a data guy.
Mr. Feinblatt used his number-crunching skills at City Hall to help make agencies more efficient, and served as Mr. Bloombergs point person on criminal justice, immigration and gay marriage.
And now, as president of the Bloomberg group Everytown for Gun Safety, he is taking the same approach to a state-by-state, town-by-town fight to change gun laws.
A year after the mayor left office, the group says it has more than 2.5 million supporters and 40,000 donors. It uses algorithms to identify electionsand target votersthat could swing on the gun issue. |

"As a child fascinated by guns, my best friend and I made toy weapons in his fathers shop, often using them in games of 'war.' As an officer in the Army, I got first-hand knowledge about the danger of arms such as assault rifles and their cruel capacity to kill."
"One of my first jobs upon return to civilian life was being a police reporter, which confirmed the damage firearms create when in the wrong hands. That was before the gun industry managed to sell 'assault rifles' to the general public, creating large profits while making life in America less safe." ... |

"A group of armed robbers enter a gun store. No, this isnt a joke, but it should be because thats probably the last place a criminal should ever try to rob. According to The Kansas City Star:
The co-owner of a Shawnee gun store was fatally shot and three suspects were wounded during an attempted robbery Friday afternoon. The gunfight broke out after four robbers entered Shes A Pistol ( www.shesapistol.com/ ), at 57th Streetaccording to Shawnee police.
It was open season after one of the armed men struck co-owner Becky Bieker in the face. Shots were fired, one of which fatally wounded Beckys husband, and co-owner, Jon Bieker. All told, there were multiple, severe injuries, mostly on the part of the attackers." ... |

Tuesday, Congressman Thomas Massie (R-KY) introduced H.R. 86, the Safe Students Act, which would repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990.
The bill, originally introduced by Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) in 2007, repeals the Gun-Free School Zones Act (GFSZA) of 1990, which makes it unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone. In 1995, the Supreme Court held the GFSZA unconstitutional, which prompted Congress to amend the bill in 1996. The Supreme Court has not ruled on the constitutionality of the amended Act. |

It may be an exaggeration to say that some Michigan lawmakers want to arm abusers.
But not by much.
Michigan's Legislature has approved a law, ostensibly aimed at standardizing the way concealed-weapons permits are issued, that also eliminates a state provision barring individuals subject to a personal protection order from obtaining such permits.
Personal protection orders, also called restraining orders, are typically issued by a court when there's reason to believe a person is in danger. The subject of the order is generally barred from contacting the threatened person, visiting the person's home or place of employment, stalking or assaultive behavior. |

A Manhattan lawmaker will take another stab at changing a knife law that has led to the arrest of as many as 60,000 people in New York City over the last ten years and drawn criticism from all over the legal community.
Assemblyman Dan Quart will introduce a bill today to adjust the language of the state law, which was originally passed in the 1950s and was aimed at a switchblade-like weapon called a gravity knife. In recent years the law has been enforced almost exclusively in New York City, where it has been used to arrest thousands of suspects carrying commonly available pocketknives. Construction workers, artists, and many others who use pocketknives for work have found themselves caught up in the aggressive enforcement.

Who should decide whether Californians may legally carry a concealed weapon?
Heres where it stands right now: The state Legislature handed off the decision to local law enforcement officials, federal judges are divided, the California attorney general wants to weigh in, and the U.S. Supreme Court may yet override all of them.
California lawmakers have made it generally illegal to carry a gun, open or concealed, loaded or unloaded, in public places. However, state law allows individuals to obtain a license to carry a concealed weapon if they take a firearms training course, demonstrate good moral character and show good cause for the permit to be issued. |

"Now, some of us didnt realize the Constitution had been stolen or lost or borrowed. Apparently, though, other Americans (Tea Partyists, conservatives and libertarians, for the most part) are concerned thats happened. They want the written framework of our government 'returned.'"
