Remington designed their 6.8mm Special Purpose Cartridge (SPC) to have improved terminal performance over the 5.56mm NATO, which is the cartridge currently used by the U.S. military. Specifically designed to perform better when fired from carbines and Short Barreled Rifles (SBR), Remington collaborated with special ops troops and the Army Marksmanship Unit to develop the 6.8 SPC. Development began in 2002, and field trials took place in 2004.

Along about 1950, Colt debuted the first American-made pistol in 9mm Luger. The U.S. military was thinking about retiring the venerable .45 of 1911 in favor of a 9mm for compatibility with their Allies in case of another land war in Europe. Colt figured the 1911 could be so chambered and lightened to boot. The result was the Commander, with a 4.25″ instead of a 5″ barrel, and another first: a lightweight aluminum frame.

Missouri State Sen. Steven Roberts, the Senate minority whip, has introduced legislation requiring that anyone carrying a firearm in the city must have a concealed carry permit despite the states 2017 passage of constitutional carry.

Senate Bill 1016 would only apply to St. Louis City gun owners, according to KMOV news. The story referred to the unsolved March 2020 murder of Cara Davenport, apparently caught in the middle of a gunfight. Her mother, Sharon Webb-Steele, has become a gun control advocate, who reportedly believes that having stricter gun laws in the City of St. Louis that makes it harder for people to get guns in the first place could be beneficial.

The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution on Tuesday to make Montgomery County Iowas newest Sanctuary County. In July last year, Jasper County became the first county in the state to become a Second Amendment Sanctuary.

It turns out President Joe Biden is seeing more guns being sold in his first year than his two White House predecessors. For all his intent to hobble the firearm industry and clamp down on lawful gun ownership, gun sales have been good. Really good. Decembers NSSF-adjusted National Instant Criminal Background Check (NICS) figures for 2021 put the annual total over 18.5 million. Thats higher than any year that President Barack Obama was in the White House.

Subcompact pistols are whats hot. Those are the guns consumers are asking for, and theyre the guns manufacturers are building. The reason should be obvious: the smaller a pistol is, the easier it is to conceal. (The smaller a pistol is, the harder it is to shoot, but that seems to be of little concern to most people these days.) Some are concerned that these miniature handguns with abbreviated barrels may not produce enough velocity to cause proper bullet function in terms of upset (i.e. consistent, controlled expansion).

In the mid-19th centuryjust as in todays worldcitizens were clamoring for a concealable, reliable and affordable handgun. Ironically, inspired by the acceptance of his massive .44-cal. 1847 Walker and First Model 1848 Dragoon, the enterprising Sam Colt sensed an opportunity. Using his 4-lb., 8-oz., Dragoon as a starting point, he scaled down the horse pistol dramatically until it became a 22-oz., .31-cal., five-shot revolver that could easily be tucked into a gentlemans sash or a frontiersmans belt.

The two Olympic pistol events are about as far apart in technique as one can imagine. While the rapid-fire match calls for good accuracy, it puts a premium on speed, shooting five shots in four seconds in one stage. The free pistol match, on the other hand, is a slow, drawn-out affair with the emphasis on precision and accuracy.
