A man driving with his wife on the interstate witnessed the altercation. He stopped his vehicle and approached the trooper, asking if the officer needed help.
Andersson did, and when he replied in the affirmative, the passerby retrieved a gun from his car. Under Arizona law, it is legal to use deadly force in defense of a third person whose life is threatened. It would not be unusual for a motorist in the area to have a weapon. |

But this time, the same man, 24-year-old Eric Lackey, had been shot in the stomach.
The suspected shooter, an 18-year-old man who lived at the home, says he shot his mom's fiance because Lackey was hurting her.
"Kind of choking her, pushing her up by her head, lifting her up off the ground with his hand. Looks like he probably slammed her head against the door." Turner said.
Lackey and the suspect's mother were both taken to an Ardmore hospital.
Lackey remains there, but he's expected to survive. The woman has been released.
Police say the shooting appears to be self defense. |

Before the bill was even introduced, Everytown for Gun Safety launched a predictable scare campaign to demonize it. In an email distributed through Daily Kos, Brina Milikowsky, Chief Strategy Officer for Everytown, claimed that the bill would allow dangerous individuals -- including convicted criminals, domestic abusers, and stalkers -- to legally carry weapons in public. An Everytown-funded petition on Daily Kos urged senators to oppose it, claiming the bill would allow dangerous people to carry guns on their streets, including violent criminals, stalkers, and domestic abusers. |

On January 10 and 11, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee held the confirmation hearing for President-elect Donald Trumps nominee for United States Attorney General, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.). Throughout his distinguished career in public service, which includes 12 years as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama, Sessions has exhibited the utmost respect for our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms and has worked tirelessly to prosecute those who use guns in the commission of a crime. Despite the best efforts of some to disrupt the hearing and promote scurrilous allegations, an image of the real Sessions came through during the hearing - that of a principled statesman devoted to our Constitution. |

America lost a civil rights icon and a true free thinker with the death of Roy Innis on Jan. 8.
For the NRA, his departure was personal. Mr. Innis served on the NRAs Board of Directors for nearly 25 years and was a friend to many within the organization. For the nation at large, he was a champion of freedom who exemplified the courage of a man who follows his own convictions.
Born June 6, 1934 in Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Roy Emile Alfredo Innis moved with his mother to New York City in 1947 (his father, a police officer, died when Roy was 6 years old). From ages 16 to 18, he served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He went on to study chemistry at the City College of New York. |

Earlier this week, the South Dakota Legislature began its 2017 Legislative Session. It is important that gun owners and sportsmen across the state of South Dakota stay actively involved throughout 2017 as well as stay-tuned to NRA-ILA email alerts and www.NRAILA.org as the session progresses.
Your NRA-ILA has learned that state Representative Lynne DiSanto (R-35) is expected to introduce constitutional carry legislation in the near future. This pro-gun legislation would allow any law-abiding individual who can legally possess a firearm to carry a handgun for self-defense in Kentucky without having to obtain a permit to do so. |

President-elect Donald Trump has said he will nominate a replacement for the late Antonin Scalia within two weeks of taking office. That nomination may come none too soon, as two major Second Amendment cases could be argued next fall.
The first case is Peruta v. California. This case centers around Californias may issue law which has become a de facto no issue due to the good cause requirement. A Ninth Circuit panel tossed out the law, but when it was heard en banc, the three-judge panel was over-ruled. Former Solicitor General Paul Clement is arguing this case and SCOTUS has a track record of saying yes when he asks them to hear a case. |

Tennessee lawmakers will consider a measure to make it easier to openly carry a handgun.
A bill that would allow Tennesseans to do so without first obtaining a permit was introduced this week by Rep. Micah Van Huss, R-Jonesborough.
Those interested in carrying a handgun in a concealed manner would still be required to obtain a permit, according to the recently filed bill.
As it is written, the legislation applies only to handguns and not other firearms such as shotguns. |

House Bill 458, sponsored by state Representative Justin Hill (R-108), specifies that lawful owners of firearms may transport or store the firearms in locked, privately-owned motor vehicles without fear of civil liability, criminal liability or employer retribution. Throughout the country, many employers and business owners have adopted "No Firearms" policies that extend beyond the physical workplace or building to include parking lots areas often accessible to the general public and not secure. In order to comply with these policies, many law-abiding gun owners must choose between protecting themselves during their commutes and being subject to termination by their employer. |

Lawmakers in nine states have filled the gap by requiring that firearms dealers employ security measures to reduce the risk of theft, according to the California-based Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence. They are Alabama, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and West Virginia. A move is afoot, too, in Illinois, where Chicago has been rocked by murders committed with guns from outside the city.
The measures vary by state and include a ban on the display of firearms; standards for storage of firearms, like locking them in a safe overnight; burglar alarms connected directly to the local police department; and a state-approved theft detection and prevention system. |

House Bill 136 would amend the existing statute to allow a person lawfully carrying with a Wyoming state permit to carry a concealed weapon on any public college or university campus or within any public college or university facility, without having to have the written consent of the security service of the public college or university.
House Bill 137 would allow an individual to lawfully carry a concealed weapon in any meeting of a government entity. |

House Republican leader Mike McLane said Thursday the order was tantamount to limiting employees' right to self-defense. In a statement, McLane said he would ask Gov. Kate Brown where the authority for the new rules comes from.
"I am extremely concerned to learn that our state government has taken steps that limit employees' right to self-defense and believe that these actions may violate the Oregon Constitution," McLane said in a statement. "I will be asking Gov. Brown's office to explain where they believe their power to take such actions is derived from and, if necessary, take swift action to restore the rights of Oregonians as soon as possible." |

Inspired, perhaps, by Oscar Wilde (Moderation is a fatal thing. Nothing succeeds like excess), Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson has announced two new sweeping gun control bills, with Sen. David Frockt (D-Seattle) and Rep. Strom Peterson (D-Edmonds) as the bills prime sponsors.
Despite being described as assault weapon reform, the proposed legislation is nothing short of a ban of many common, legal firearms and large-capacity magazines currently possessed by millions of law-abiding Americans for self-defense, hunting, and recreational shooting.
Both bills use the same extensive definitions of assault weapon and large-capacity magazine (LCM). Assault weapon would include: |

The volley of gun-related bill filings at the State Capitol has people for and against expanded gun laws keeping a close eye on the legislative session, which started Tuesday. So far, Texas lawmakers have already filed at least 40 gun-related bills and most of those proposals focus on safety. Dozens of volunteers with Texas Gun Sense navigated the halls of the Capitol this week, stopping in offices to lobby state lawmakers. I call them gun-grabbing liberals, said State Rep. Jonathan Stickland, R-Bedford, who wrote House Bill 375. If passed, it would open the door for Constitutional Carry in the state. |

Its time. Time to talk about the mentally ill and their Second Amendment rights.
It was time to talk about it back in 2007, after the Virginia Tech massacre. It was time to talk about it in December 2012, after Adam Lanza emerged from his mothers basement with an armful of weapons and made his bloody way through Sandy Hook Elementary.
It was time to talk about it last year, when Omar Mateen, with his history of domestic violence and scrutiny by the FBI, opened fire at the Pulse night club in Orlando with guns he had legally bought only two weeks before. |

Attorneys representing the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and its news publication, TheGunMag.com, today filed for summary judgment in a lawsuit filed against the City of Seattle that alleges failure to comply with the state's Public Records Act (PRA).
Last year, TheGunMag.com a print and on-line monthly magazine sought information from the city about its first quarter revenues from a controversial "gun violence tax" levied on the sale of firearms and ammunition in Seattle. The city has refused to turn over the information on the grounds that it would violate the privacy of individual gun dealers by revealing the taxes they paid under the ordinance. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
As civil rulers, not having their duty to the people before them, may attempt to tyrannize, and as the military forces which must be occasionally raised to defend our country, might pervert their power to the injury of their fellow citizens, the people are confirmed by the article in their right to keep and bear their private arms. Tench Coxe in `Remarks on the First Part of the Amendments to the Federal Constitution' under the Pseudonym "A Pennsylvanian" in the Philadelphia Federal Gazette, June 18, 1789 at 2 col. 1. |
