Most of us accept that we can make mistakes even on our good days. Being the chief law enforcement officer for a school district that was attacked by a murderer is a horrible day indeed. Uvalde schools police chief Pete Arredondo made some bad decisions. It would be an even greater loss if we didnt learn from his mistakes.

We have the courage and common sense to ask questions of our police and our school officials. It is our duty to make sure our school security plans make sense.

Started in 2021 by Matt and Joscelyn Goldberg, they were shortly joined by partner Michael Vaughn, who created the company under the premise everyone should know how to defend themselves. And, according to them, while going to a shooting range can provide help with fundamentals, it falls short in helping people with real world situations they are likely to face. They do in fact have a wide spectrum of services they are now offering the community. We will be offering Pistol 1, 2 and 3, hand to hand combat, womens self-defense, and a simulation Force on Force course all designed to simulate the most realistic training, Goldberg said.

As you read earlier, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker rushed to sign a new gun ban into law within hours of its passage by the General Assembly. Pritzker proudly praised the legislators who ignored the rule of law to pass the measure that blocks sales and ownership of the most popular guns for self-defense. He also took a victory lap around what he said were the powerful forces of the pro-gun lobby.

Why the rush? Pritzker saw the news reports of prospective gun owners crowding into Prairie State gun shops to buy the very guns that state government worked so quicly to outlaw, much as they had in Oregon.

The records show dozens of ATF agents requesting the monitoring of law-abiding people through the FBIs National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) The FBI calls this secret system with the ATF the NICS Monitoring Services. This is a manual, daily check of firearm sales to see if a specific person buys a gun for as long as the ATF agent wants.

They are basically trackingwithout a warrantevery gun purchase by these people, Rob Olson, an attorney for Gun Owners of America (GOA), told The Epoch Times. Theres no legal process here. At best, this is highly questionable, if not outright unlawful.

A group of gun-rights advocates has filed notice they will appeal a federal judges decision here upholding Rhode Islands new ban on gun magazines holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.

Michael A. Kelly, a lawyer representing the group, told The Journal on Friday that they hope to argue before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit that a so-called high-capacity gun magazine is not a firearm and therefore cant be regulated as such.

Last month, U.S. District Chief Judge John J. McConnell Jr.refused to grant a request by a Chepachet gun store and several Rhode Island gun ownersfor a preliminary injunction blocking the law, which makes possession of gun magazines that hold more than 10 rounds a felony.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has a gun bill planned for a vote soon that is aimed at rounding up illegal immigrants through the federal gun background check system. The bill would utilize the FBIs National Instant Criminal Background Check System to attempt to find people who are in the United States illegally.

However, the Second Amendment advocacy group Gun Owners of America (GOA) alerted its members about legislation, warning that it would empower the FBI to target and conduct warrantless surveillance of law-abiding gun owners.

I could think of a thousand ways to target illegal aliens without harassing law-abiding gun owners named Rodriguez, GOAs attorney Rob Olson told The Epoch Times in an interview.

Today, Rep. Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) introduced legislation to protect military families constitutional rights. The Protect Our Military Families 2nd Amendment Rights Act (H.R. 341

) guarantees Second Amendment rights to the spouse of a service member. This is the first piece of legislation introduced by Rep. Murphy in the 118th Congress.

When I was elected to Congress, I made a promise to protect my constituents constitutional rights and support our service members and their families. This legislation does both, said Rep. Murphy. Far too often, military families are forgotten when Congress addresses issues that impact our warfighters.

More and more Illinois sheriffs are joining the bandwagon, saying they will not enforce the assault weapons ban signed into law this week.

As CBS 2 Investigator Megan Hickey reported Friday, some of the sheriffs' statements vary but all of them cite Second Amendment constitutional concerns.

They say they will not be checking to ensure that lawful gun owners register their weapons with the State of Illinois, nor will they be arresting "law-abiding individuals" who have been charged solely with not complying.

So far in the greater Chicago area, the list includes the DeKalb, DuPage, McHenry, LaSalle, Grundy, Kankakee, and Kane County sheriffs.

The U.S. Congress will once again be considering national right-to-carry reciprocity, thanks to a new measure just introduced by North Carolina Republican Rep. Richard Hudson. The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2023HR 38stipulates that people with state-issued concealed carry licenses or permits issued in one state to conceal a handgun in any other state, as long as the permit holder follows the laws of that state. It also allows residents of Constitutional carry states the ability to carry in other states. Hudson said the bipartisan legislation has 118 original cosponsors.

Many parents think about their child's safety at school. Gun violence has increased in America. According to the KFF, firearms sadly became the leading cause of death for kids in The Unites Sates. Car accidents, injuries, cancer and substance abuse were not far behind. They also report that the death of kids from guns has been on an upward trend since 2000.

The data was collected from assaults, suicides and accidental gun deaths. Suicides made up about 30% of the deaths in 2020.

It's scary to think how easily minors can get access to guns. Parents of students at one Hudson Valley high school got quite the scare this morning when they checked their email.

Earlier, we wrote about an American martial art focused on emulating the gunplay and hand-to-hand grappling that was common during the era of the Wild West and the American frontier. This includes using weapons that would have been accurate to the time period for competition and well as self-defense. One of those weapons is the Winchester Model 1887 shotgun. According to the book America's Premier Gunmakers: Winchester by K. D. Kirkland, this particular gun was produced from eighteen eighty-seven to eighteen ninety-nine while a future upgraded version of the shotgun (called the Model 1901) was produced from the year nineteen o' one to nineteen twenty.

Gun owners in the city are required to have liability insurance or they could be fined a minimum of $250.

But can insurance actually help curb gun violence?

Insurance in and of itself is never going to cover the kinds of violent events that people imagine it would because insurance cant cover things that you do on purpose,R.J. Lehmann says.

A recent New York Times column addressed what I have long asserted as the most powerful psychological aspect of the gun issue in America. Therein Jamelle Bouie writes about the impact that open carry has on individuals and communities. He argues, I believe unimpeachably, that all social dynamics shift when a weapon is present.

This is particularly important in terms of schools, where policy proposals for arming teachers are common and many schools already have armed guards within their walls. The impact of weapons in a school environment is quietly devastating.

The Second Amendment Foundation today accused the Biden administration of once again trying to trample the rights of gun owners by allowing the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to adopt a final rule on arm braces for modern semiautomatic pistols.

While the definition of a rifle in federal law should be clear, noted attorney Chad Flores, who is representing SAF in a federal lawsuit filed two years ago that was stayed by the court in anticipation of this new rule, it is clear the Biden administrations new definition of a rifle ignores tradition. SAF sued ATF and the U.S. Attorney General in 2021 in a case known asSAF et. al. v. BATFE, et. al.
