"Still, why stop at silhouettes? What about targets that actually show figures of people? What about popular 'zombie' targets? Theyre not human any more, are they? Fortunately, for Kirklands esteemed 'peace officers,' theyll still be able to blow away 'No More Hesitation' models of 'white-privileged' pregnant women and kids, at least while their already-purchased supplies last. And I guess as long as were exploring the absurd, another ridiculous question or two is in order: Could I have a silhouette target of someone who looks human, but isn't? For some reason Star Treks android Data comes to mind..." |

"Anyone who helps citizen disarmament advocates gain power is no true friend to gun owners and has no business being presented as one. And anyone who politically supports someone playing to both sides of the street likewise relegates gun rights to a lower priority than doctrinaire political and economic special interests. To them, the Second Amendment comes second, or third, or even lower. No amount of pointing out what bills have been advanced or voted on 'the right way,' and no amount of 'dinner dates' can alter that fundamental reality." |

U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell on Tuesday urged Gov. Rick Snyder to veto a bill that would allow some domestic abusers to obtain concealed weapons permits.
The Dearborn Democrat raised her personal history in urging the second-term Republican governor to veto a bill backed by the National Rifle Association.
"As someone who lived for years in an environment that could erupt violently at any point, I recognize provisions in this legislation as a serious threat to protecting Michigan women, children and communities, and quite frankly even men," Dingell wrote.
Submitters note: Is she referring to her husband former Rep. John Dingell, whose voting record was pro-gun? |

Gov. Rick Snyder is facing increased pressure from female leaders to veto legislation that would let some people subject to personal protection orders carry a concealed gun.
The provision facing criticism from gun control and anti-domestic violence advocates would let subjects of protection orders get concealed pistol licenses unless the orders specifically restrict gun use.
The bill's Republican sponsor says critics are spreading "misinformation" and it would merely make various state laws uniform.
Submitters note: Snyder has until 11:30 am Wed Jan 14 to sign the bill. |

Letting people carry a firearm openly in a holster is once again a hot topic in the Arkansas as state lawmakers convened in Little Rock.
Legislators are looking at bill to clarify whether open carry is legal in Arkansas.
Steve Jones supports letting lawful gun owners carry handguns in holsters.
Open carry has never been shown to be a safety problem, Jones said.
Jones said a 2013 law allows open carry, but others have said that law is vague. Lawmakers are hoping to clear up the debate this legislative session. |

May I remind the editors of this paper, and the readers of this paper, that a student with a carry permit was prevented from carrying her duly licensed gun on the campus of UNR and was raped just a few hundred feet from campus police.
We need less limitations on carrying guns, not more restrictions, which make guns less useful in self defense. |

Dozens of supporters of open carry legislation in Texas gathered outside the Capitol Tuesday morning some of them carrying AR-15s. The groups started setting up before sunrise for the start of the 84th Texas legislative session, hoping to change Texas law.
Come and Take It Texas set up outside the south gate of the Capitol, with many of its supporters carrying rifles. Texas currently allows the open carry of long guns, but not handguns. However, that distinction is exactly what the group aims to change that. |

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) quickly shelved a new series of firearm permit-to-carry applications this week for overstepping the bounds of what questions law enforcement can ask residents who apply to purchase or carry a gun.
When the updated 2015 Minnesota Uniform Firearm Application Permits went out to law enforcement agencies last week, gun rights advocates quickly cried foul over a questionnaire that asked, among other things, if applicants had served in the military, used drugs or ever fled the state to avoid prosecution. Advocates said the questions violated applicants privacy and created a needless hurdle to exercising Second Amendment rights to bear arms. |

Today the National Rifle Association, on behalf of its 5 million members across the country, filed lawsuits against the cities of Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Lancaster for refusing to comply with a state law that prohibits local governments from enacting gun control ordinances.
The cities of Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Lancaster have openly defied state law for decades. They continue to willfully violate the law and insist on politically grandstanding at taxpayers expense, said Chris W. Cox, executive director of the NRAs Institute for Legislative Action. |

The mother of Bo Morrison, who was killed by a Slinger man when Morrison hid in the man's house while fleeing from an underage drinking party, has filed a lawsuit against the man and his insurance company.
Washington County District Attorney Mark Bensen declined to charge the homeowner, Adam Kind, with a crime in the March 2012 incident, finding Kind acted in self-defense.
The incident prompted numerous protests about "the castle doctrine," adopted by legislators the previous year, but Bensen said Kind would have been cleared even without the law's extra presumptions in favor of residents using deadly force in their homes against intruder. |

What do these and so many other cases have in common? They are the byproduct of a tragic myth: that millions of gun owners successfully use their firearms to defend themselves and their families from criminals. Despite having nearly no academic support in public health literature, this myth is the single largest motivation behind gun ownership. It traces its origin to a two-decade-old series of surveys that, despite being thoroughly repudiated at the time, persists in influencing personal safety decisions and public policy throughout the United States. |

In the first test of a new and controversial Pennsylvania preemption law, U.S. Law Shield and two individuals filed a lawsuit Tuesday against five Harrisburg city gun ordinances that are stronger than state law.
The 52-page lawsuit is brought about by the Texas-based legal defense program on behalf of two of its members against Pennsylvanias capital city under the new law signed by Gov. Corbett (R) last year, which gives legal standing for membership organizations rather than individuals to take on local gun laws in the state. The suit takes aim at a series of local statutes mandating the reporting of lost and stolen firearms, possession of guns in city parks, discharge of weapons in the city limits, and the use of guns by minors. |

In August of last year, a 16-year-old high-schooler in Summerville, South Carolina, turned in a creative writing assignment about shooting his neighbor's pet dinosaur. The school's "zero tolerance" policy for guns prompted a search of the student's belongings that turned up no weapons. Nonetheless, he was arrested and suspended for what he said was a joke, if one in questionable taste.
South Carolina state Rep. Alan Clemmons hopes to use that incident to force public schools to dedicate three weeks each year to teaching a gun-focused curriculum developed or recommended by the National Rifle Association. |

One of the most popular and common types of ammunition in the world is .22 caliber. This is especially true for target shooters. But for more than two years now .22 caliber has been the hardest ammunition to obtain for the public.
Gun and ammunition sales have been rising steadily since 2008, according to cbsnews.com. This is largely amid concerns over gun control efforts by the Obama administration. Sales numbers spiked again in late 2012 and in early 2013 after a series of events involving gun violence took place. |

I bet I own more guns than all those people who came in the office put together, Nevarez added. I mean, I have a lot of weapons. I have a shooting range on my place. So I dont think they really did their homework with the person they came to accuse of not being a Second Amendment supporter.
Kory Watkins, the man behind the camera, told KXAN by phone that he wouldnt support an open carry law that requires a permit.
If you support the Second Amendment, you support the bill we provided him. He admitted he didnt support it and he wasnt going to support it. He admitted he was a tyrant to the constitution.
Watkins says the constitution is clear and you dont have to ask permission or pay a tax to have a gun. |

The legislators also expect strong debate concerning the governors proposed gun control package.
The measures infringe on Second Amendment rights to carry a firearm and promises strong debate between pro-gun legislators and those who are not, Carrico said.
Regarding guns, Campbell is proposing a bill that would provide the issuance of lifetime permits for those seeking concealed handgun permits.
I dont think the permits should be subjected to renewal where you have to pay a fee every five years, Campbell said. Its a revenue generator for the state and I dont think that residents should have to pay for an inalienable right. |
