A House Republican has renewed an attempt to lower the minimum age from 21 to 18 for people to buy rifles and other long guns in Florida, potentially reversing part of a law that passed in the aftermath of the 2018 mass shooting at Parklands Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Rep. Bobby Payne, R-Palatka, filed the proposal (HB 1223) for consideration during the 2024 legislative session, which started Tuesday. The House passed a virtually identical bill during the 2023 session, but the Senate did not take up the issue.

A federal judge in Florida ruled that a U.S. law prohibiting people from possessing firearms inside post offices is unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle, an appointee of former President Trump, cited a 2022 landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that expanded gun rights when she handed down her ruling Friday that dismissed part of an indictment charging a postal worker with illegally possessing a gun in a federal facility. |

The Mossberg 590 series is an undisputed American classic. Mossberg first modified the 500 into the 590 after it failed to meet a number of military specifications. Mossberg wanted that contract, so they modified the magazine tube and barrel design, and the resulting effort was the 590. The Mossberg 590 has historically been a 12-gauge. Mossberg, however, recently released 590 variants in both .410 and 20 gauge. Fortunately, we got the chance to go hands-on with the .410 590. |

A bicameral measure introduced in Congress last week, should it become law in its current form, could ban many common forms of modern shooting sports activities. Entitled the "Preventing Private Paramilitary Activity Act" by its Democrat co-sponsors, U.S. Sen. Edward J. Markey (Mass.) and U.S. Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD), the bill was introduced on the anniversary of J6 and aims to prohibit, at the federal level, "paramilitary groups" through a blend of civil and criminal enforcement.
