Also known as the .22 Savage High Power and the .22 Imp, the 5.6x52mmR was developed by Charles Newton in 1912. Savage Arms produced the cartridge and chambered their popular Model 99 lever action rifle for it. The cartridge that Newton designed was accurate, and was based on the .25-35 Winchester case, but capped with a 0.227 caliber bullet. It was initially popular among hunters around the world for its accuracy, and soon hunters were using it to harvest game animals of all kinds including deer and safari animals like tigers.

Wisconsin high schools could offer a class on guns under a bill being proposed by Republican state legislators. Democratic Governor Tony Evers would almost certainly veto the bill. It would require the state Department of Public Instruction to create curriculum, including information on different types of guns and ammunition, firearm safety and safety devices, and how to load, unload and transport a gun.

In 1836, Samuel Colt received patents for a pistol with a revolving cylinder. He claimed inspiration came while at sea, after studying how a ships capstan could rotate and lock into position. The single-action revolver was the first of its kind and a huge advance in firearm design. With a simple cock of the hammer, a follow-up shot was ready to go.

Some people move away from utopian thinking after being mugged by reality. The latest evidence of this can be seen in leftists belatedly embracing the right of self-defense amid spiking violent crime rates and a dipping police presence.

"Smart" pistols designed to limit who can shoot them are poised to hit the booming US firearm market this year, taking aim at spiking gun deaths as federal lawmakers remain deadlocked on any new restrictions. Questions over reliability and political fights have bedeviled the technology for decades, but backers say it's a chance to prevent children, criminals or people considering self-harm from pulling the trigger.

Though he has been unable to move forward with his radical gun control agenda, thanks in no small part to messaging from the Second Amendment Foundation, Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and others, Joe Biden is wrapping up his first year in office with poll numbers in the basement.

The past two years have witnessed gun sales the likes of which have never been seen before. Its not just Red states either. The totals include big numbers in Blue states already home to some of the strictest gun control laws in the country. With the midterm elections less than 10 months away, elected officials supporting more gun control could be in for a rude awakening given the shifting Second Amendment support among their voting constituencies.

The city of Arnold filed a lawsuit to clarify portions of Missouris controversial new gun law. The lawsuit was filed Jan. 5 in the Jefferson County Circuit Court and says the gun law, which was passed in June and is called the Second Amendment Preservation Act, is vague and confusing, hampers criminal investigations, is contrary to state and federal law and possibly restricts the hiring of qualified law-enforcement candidates.

No, Gun Culture Has Not Been Radicalized

In a single issue in March of 1961, Guns & Ammo ran ads for a Sniper Model Enfield Match rifle, a French 8mm machine gun (used in two World Wars), a Mannlicher military pistol, a U.S. .30 M1 carbine, and a police-ordnance Ingram Model 6 submachine gun chambered in .45 ACP (only $49.95!). If youre surprised that these machine guns and high-powered military rifles were marketed to hunters in the 1960s, you might have unconsciously accepted a flawed but popular narrative about American gun culture.

2022 is already shaping up to be an interesting year. Savage, the company with a reputation for affordable and accurate rifles, has introduced not one but two completely different handguns. Though the Stance in 9mm is interesting, its the Savage 110 PCS that has hunters taking a second look. While not promoted as a hunting gun per se, Savages re-entry into the bolt-action handgun market must be considered a legitimate option.
