"On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton gave new support for the District of Columbia's ban on firearms. For his decision, the judge relied on the liberal revisionist interpretation of the Second Amendment to the Constitution, a view that holds that the right 'to keep and bear arms' was not intended for private citizens to protect themselves. 'The Second Amendment does not confer an individual a right to possess firearms. Rather the amendment's objective is to ensure the vitality of state militias,' wrote Judge Walton. It is unfortunate the judge did not consult what the Founders actually thought about gun rights before issuing his anti-gun fiat."

"A police officer shot and killed a neighborhood cat he thought was a mountain lion Thursday after two cougar sightings were reported in the same area over the last eight days."

"Animal control officers were sent to a home in the 1500 block of Crestview Road about 11:30 a.m. They were met by a police officer who emerged from a home carrying an AR-15 assault rifle."

"The officer told Redlands Animal Control Supervisor Gayle Lipes he had shot the cat, which he described to her as very large and resembling a wild animal."

" 'Why the hell did you shoot it before we got here?' Lipes asked."

"President Bush bypassed Congress and installed Charles Pickering on the federal appeals court Friday in an election-year slap at Democrats who had blocked the nomination for more than two years." ...

"Bush installed Pickering by a recess appointment..."

"Pickering, a federal trial judge whom Bush nominated for a seat on the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, has been waiting for a confirmation vote in the Senate." ...

"Democrats have accused Pickering of supporting segregation as a young man, and promoting anti-abortion and anti-voting rights views as a state lawmaker."

"They also have said they wouldn't be able to trust him to keep his conservative opinions out of his work on the federal appeals court."

-------
The 5th ruled a couple of years ago that Dr. Emerson did indeed have an individual 2A right, but then ruled that the Lautenberg amendment was an OK infringement of that right.

Where do you stand on the issue of freedom (i.e., guns), Mr. Pickering?

FULL TEXT BELOW:

An Indianapolis man remained in serious condition Friday after a bartender shot him in a case that police say was self-defense.

Police say Cecil D. Sanders, 29, and another person had an altercation with a patron at the Sports Bench Tavern, 2023 Southeastern Ave., on Wednesday night. Police say Sanders then threatened to harm the bartender, John E. Hansen. As Sanders was coming over the bar, Hansen, 31, shot Sanders once in the chest.

Depending on his medical prognosis, police intend to arrest Sanders on a preliminary battery charge, said IPD spokesman Sgt. Steve Staletovich. Sanders was being cared for at Methodist Hospital.

Staletovich said three witnesses and a videotape of the encounter support Hansen's story.

"The threat of a shooting at Oxford High School Friday led to increased security by borough police as students entered the building and a lockdown throughout the day."

"Students were lined up out the front doors in the freezing cold waiting to go through a metal detector to get into the building."

" 'The opening of school went very smoothly,' Oxford Borough Police Chief George Pappas said. 'It went without a hitch.' "

"Of as much or more concern than the written shooting threat were rumors that some students would be bringing weapons to school for self-defense."

-------
What kind of upside-down psychotic mind-set is that?!? They are more frightened of students defending themselves from a shooter than of the shooter himself?

TrueMajority.org would like to have you send a form letter to your Representative urging him or her to defend the Brady Bill, maintain the "assault" weapons ban, and "preserve the rights of gun crime victims." In other words, they promote every socialist, evil talking point on Brady's agenda.

However, you can modify this letter to express your TRUE feelings easily. I changed mine to a pro-gun stance.

You may have to register (free) with True Majority, but it's worth it. We can help block their gun-grabbing tactics using their own site.

"Robert Marlett started out suing the city and an enforcement officer for an illegal search. His case has now evolved into going after several government officials and the city's attorneys. He is also attempting to have the city attorneys disbarred. These documents that we managed to find are a MUST-READ for anyone who desires to fight back against government officials! It is a lengthy read, but for those of you that might be or have been abused by local authorities it is well worth it."

"The purpose of this presentation is to show that the topic of weapons (specifically guns) do not belong in a health book. The facts presented in this presentation show undeniably that the threat and deluge of weapons in our country and our schools, as a health and medical epidemic, is non-existent (except for inner city schools where violence is a way of life). The information provided also has shown that the Meeks Heit approach is just one portion of a segment in our society which is trying to by-pass the political process and destroy our rights as citizens for bearing arms and reaching out to our children to brainwash them into the same mindset."

"I could have just broken down the statements from the book but that will not suffice. It will not suffice because in order for you to understand the statements, you must have the history and validations of what is really going on. It is imperative for all the information to be read and digested before you read the analysis of the book's statements."

"Our children are our future. We cannot allow them to be brainwashed, or our country will eventually cease to exist. If this report casts even a shred of reasonable doubt on the Meeks Heit health books, they should be removed from our schools immediately."

"Northwest Airlines provided information on millions of passengers for a secret U.S. government air-security project soon after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, raising more concerns among some privacy advocates about the airlines' use of confidential customer data."

"The nation's fourth-largest airline asserted in September that it 'did not provide that type of information to anyone.' But Northwest acknowledged Friday that by that time, it had already turned over three months of reservation data to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Ames Research Center. Northwest is the second carrier to have been identified as secretly passing travelers' records to the government."

Police are looking for a gunman who walked into an East New York diner early Saturday, announced a robbery and opened fire with two pistols, injuring eight customers as others scrambled for their lives, police said.

As the gunman sprayed up to 22 shots in the Galaxy Diner at about 5:15 a.m., some patrons took cover or ran, with one fleeing to a next-door McDonald's, police said. Then, the gunman and his unarmed accomplice robbed two men and beat another customer before fleeing on foot through the diner's parking lot.

The two men, who a police source said may have driven off in a black truck, still were being sought Saturday night.

Philip wants the affected children to learn about the benefits shooting has on the countryside.

How about wanting them to learn of the benefits associated with gun ownership, such as self defense, personal responsibility, concentration and freedom?

"Many people would be surprised to know that there is an asterisk over our constitutional right to counsel. While it is true that counsel must be provided to anyone who cannot otherwise afford it, the courts have (inexplicably and unfortunately) ruled that this only applies if a defendant is facing a potential deprivation of liberty. In cases that are so minor that there is no possibility of jail, no lawyer has to be made available. According to Miami-Dade County Public Defender Bennett Brummer, this loophole in our justice system is being exploited through a 'deliberate policy' by the state attorney's office."

"Prosecutors are promising judges that protesters will not face jail time and then asking judges to remove the FTAA protesters' public defenders. It is a tactic designed to leave these defendants, many of whom are out-of-state students with few means, without representation. Once stripped of counsel, they would be far more likely to take a plea and not fight the charges."

The law would allow people to carry guns in public.

Leaders in the Wisconsin troopers association say safety and the amount of money involved in the permit process make the law too risky to put into practice.

But gun rights groups say several states that have had the law are not thinking of changing it any time soon.

As long as innocent children and multitudes of "law-abiding citizens" continue to be gunned down so that the other "law-abiding citizens" who happen to own guns (as I do) can do as they please with their firearms, the American public will continue to favor restrictions, and in greater numbers.

-------
Ah, the old "I'm a gun owner, so I can promote gun control with a clear conscience for the children" routine!

More children are killed in automobile accidents and from disease and neglect than firearms. Should we have greater car and parent control?

"Americans for Gun Safety, a Washington, D.C.-based gun control lobby, also said Indiana ranks first in the nation for stores supplying guns traced by law enforcement officials to crimes."

"None of this is the kind of top 10 ranking that is comforting or worthy of a billboard welcoming visitors to the region." ...

"These cities must aggressively fight the violence. Suing gun manufacturers, as Gary has done, gets publicity, but doesn't produce results. Police need sufficient resources - and effective strategies - to reduce the threat of violent crimes."

"McGreevey also signed a law preventing people convicted of child abuse, domestic violence or stalking from owning guns." ...

"The bill restricting firearms ownership is designed to tighten the state's domestic violence laws."

-------
An abuser is willing to break the law and beat the snot out of his partner, but will somehow heed gun laws? What a superfluous waste of time!

"Lord Acton said, 'Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely.' Meet Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska, the powerful Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee." ...

"But the Ted Stevens story is less about Ted Stevens than it is about the cesspool our Congress has become. Incumbents are entrenched like never before--over 98 percent reelection rates cycle after cycle. Rarely are incumbents even seriously challenged. No term limits. No process to recall them."

"Here we are on the outset of 2004, and the hope that President Bush would wrap up his first term with a conservative agenda is rapidly fading. From the beginning of his administration with the No Child Left Behind Act, the Patriot Act, and later with the Homeland Security bureaucracy and the farm bill, President Bush has abandoned his conservative base."

"Many conservatives were convinced that it was all a part of a grand political strategy and that when the Republicans took the Senate, all would be different. Unfortunately, nothing changed, except that more liberal legislation has been passed."

"Our rights are under attack from every angle now days. Property rights, right to bear arms, freedom of speech, and states rights. The federal government is taking over wildlife and fish management and telling states what they can and can't do. Violating the tenth amendment. The States are violating property rights and calling it land use planning. All levels of government are attempting to take away your right to bear arms and freedom of speech. The Clinton gun ban and many other federal laws are in violation of our right to bear arms. The campaign finance reform bill violates freedom of speech."

"No croons for Bovard. Whipping a cheap cigar out of his vest pocket and pointing it at the AG, he hooted, 'Mr. Ashcroft, your lofty sentiments are uplifting -- until one remembers that you issued an order largely gutting the Freedom of Information Act a month after 9/11. You say you're all in favor of a 'solid foundation of facts' -- but you're opposed to permitting Americans from learning what the feds are up to? This is not quite what the Founding Fathers had in mind!' "

"When that got a chuckle, Ashcroft smirked at our ignorance (and I tell you, this guy can seriously smirk). He then informed us the Patriot Act was For Our Security..."

A Face of Democracy

"A democracy, to honor its pledge to secure the maximum good for the greatest number, cannot function with money based on silver and gold. A silver and gold standard limits the supply of money and would allow that supply to expand only, if the value of the precious metals were revised from time to time. But why go through such trouble, when millions are able and willing to offer their labor as a promise to pay. It frees the way to employ fiat money, money backed by debt and makes an almost limitless supply of money available to an avaricious government. The printing press then becomes government's only enemy, because it can print only as fast as its gears will allow."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws. EDWARD ABBEY
