A Grand Rapids man has filed a lawsuit in federal court against the Grand Rapids Housing Commission, arguing that the organizations anti-weapons policy is unconstitutional.
James Vance Jr., 61, filed an amended complaint earlier this month with the U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids. The original filing was in late October, and the housing commission has yet to file its response with the court.
Vance Jr. argues that the policy prohibits him from keeping his legal property on the premises of his place of residence without fear of being evicted.
I should be allowed to keep my property in my home as much as anyone is allowed to keep any of their property in their home, Vance Jr. wrote in his complaint. |

The average man on the street thinks that socialism takes care of the poor. The average headline surfer thinks that civilian guns ownership causes violence. These opinions are not the result of systematic sociological research. People have those feelings because of what they are told in the news. Why is the media telling us things that are so blatantly wrong..and we believe them? |

The Mother Lode chapter of the Well Armed Woman is officially accepting members.
So far, the firearm and safety organization has 10 members in its local chapter, with 150 Facebook followers. In order to bolster its membership, TWAW is holding an open house on Feb. 17.
Its actually up and running now, said Cherie Sintes-Glover, Mother Lode chapter president. Weve had our Facebook page up since August. I had people already contacting me and expressing interest, so I wanted something at least to provide resources until they could join. Now they can officially join, and if people go to the (TWAW nonprofit) website, search for a chapter and find ours. And they can actually join now. |

In recent years, many states have relaxed their concealed carry laws, on the theory that concealed-gun carriers deter crime. But there is no credible evidence that permissive laws prevent or deter crime. In an analysis of states with right-to-carry laws, Stanford researcher John Donohue and colleagues found that states that passed right-to-carry laws experienced 13 to 15 percent higher aggregate violent crime rates, over a period of 10 years, than comparable states. |

Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed a measure putting more regulations on gun dealers in Illinois, red tape that a group representing the industry said could put them out of business.
At an event at a Chicago school, surrounded by the citys police superintendent, mayor, other elected officials and gun control advocacy groups, Pritzker on Thursday signed Senate Bill 337, which lawmakers passed more than six months ago.
The reason for it is to deter straw purchases so that we can prevent someone from buying a gun for someone else who is not legally allowed to own a gun, Pritzker said. |

Not all ammunition is equally accurate in a given gun. But just how much of a difference can there be? For example can one kind of ammo be twice as accurate as another―or possibly even more?
This article examines accuracy in one pistol. Savvy shooters know that its only one of millions of pistols, and the results only apply to the test gun. But this article is not saying that Brand X is the most accurate ammo for all guns, it only looks at how one gun shoots different ammunition. |

We have an ethical obligation to bring to court cases we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt, she said. Im sure there are people who will disagree with this decision.
The victim, Ralph McLaughlin II, 28, of Hartland, who previously was not identified, said in dropping the charge against Duplisea, the district attorneys office was sending a dangerous message to the public.
[Prosecutors] are not following Maine law, which requires people to retreat to safety during a fight if they can, he said. They are saying that anyone after a little fist fight can shoot somebody. |

But Chris Thobaben, a Marine Corps officer and 2020 candidate for Washington state representative, said he has a better idea.
Thobaben proposes requiring gun owners to make a one-time payment at the point of purchase. That payment would be for an insurance policy that would stay attached to the gun for its lifespan, even if its sold.
So if gun No. 11567 is used to kill John Smith, John Smiths family is subject to receive the payout of John Smiths life value, Thobaben explained.
The policy upends the traditional insurance model. It doesnt cover the shooter, only the victim of gun violence.
And Thobabens plan might catch on.
He said his proposal has support from the gun control group Moms Demand Action and the NRA. |

NRA is often vilified by the gun-ban community and its supporters in the mainstream, legacy media as an extremist organization because of its steadfast defense of our Right to Keep and Bear Arms. A simple look into the anti-gun agenda, however, will show that proponents of restriction on a right protected by the U.S. Constitution are the true extremists.
In Oregon, we see just how extreme the anti-gun legislative agenda has become, thanks to state Senator Rob Wagner (D-19) and his proposal, Senate Bill 501.

A Kansas City couple claims in a federal lawsuit that state requirements for foster parents who own guns violate their constitutional rights.
Foster parents in Missouri are not prohibited from possessing firearms if they are otherwise legally allowed to do so. But the Missouri Department of Social Services imposes several restrictions on them. The rules include storing firearms and ammunition separately, keeping firearms locked in areas inaccessible to children, and keeping firearms in a locked area in any vehicle transporting a foster child. |

Jesse Bonifer of Athena is a staunch defender of gun rights and was one of the chief petitioners of the Second Amendment Preservation Ordinance, which Umatilla County voters passed overwhelmingly. He is no fan of the proposal in the state Senate to require Oregonians to have a permit before even buying or receiving a gun.
Thats just ridiculous, Bonifer said. We already have our permit. |

This week, the Virginia Senate Committee on Courts of Justice and the House Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee heard and voted to defeat many of Governor Ralph Northams requested gun control bills.
Bills listed as passed by indefinitely have been defeated for the 2019 legislative session. Bills listed as laid on the table have been heard and would require a majority vote to be brought back up. |
