Illinois passed a new state law that set back the efforts of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), making the use of drones to interfere with hunters and fishermen prohibited. The law was created in response to PETAs plan to employ drones called air angels to monitor outdoors enthusiasts engaged in hunting and fishing nationwide. Of course, the motivation for many outdoorsman is to get away from technology and be in harmony with nature. But PETA has another plan for lovers of the wilderness. They want to spy on hunters as self appointed green police trying to trap them in violations. |

New York gun rights groups won a minor victory Friday in federal court, but the year-old NY SAFE Act was left largely intact. U.S. Western District of New York Chief Judge William Skretny ruled Friday a ban on loading more than seven rounds of ammunition into a firearm magazine is unconstitutional, while upholding the states right to regulate certain firearms and magazines. |

This time, gun-rights supporters have until May 27 to submit the signatures of 807,615 registered voters to qualify a proposed constitutional amendment that would establish a state constitutional right to acquire, posses, transport, transfer and use firearms for lawful purposes. It would also erase state laws that regulate possession and registration of weapons and ammunition. |

New York state's new gun regulations passed their first court test, with a judge throwing out only a ban on loading more than seven rounds in a magazine.
U.S. District Judge William Skretny, sitting in Buffalo, ruled Tuesday most of the legislation is constitutional, the New York Times reported.
But he called the seven-round limit "an arbitrary restriction." |

With final passage in the Senate expected in February or March, the Stabenow bill would: put reimbursement for mental health services at parity with primary care at community health facilities; establish 10 state pilot programs that would practice higher standards and offer a broad range of mental health services such as 24-hour crisis psychiatric services; require more coordination between mental health and substance abuse treatment, and more collaboration between mental health care providers and other health care facilities, such as VA clinics. |

Consider the psychology of the issue. If a student or an intruder knows a school is a gun-free zone, then it becomes a prime target for violence; everyone is a potential victim. However, if a student or an intruder is unsure which teachers might be carrying pistols, then that uncertainty tends to deter a violent attack someone might fire back.
The consequences for the learning experience would be profound. Teachers would be less fearful, students would know that simply eating a sandwich would not lead to an expulsion. Driving fear out of the school would yield far more than driving fear into the students. |

Stand your ground. Thanks to Uncle ALEC and the deep pocketed gun lobbyists of the NRA and the gun absolutists of the Gun Owners of America, under the Castle doctrine it is legal to shoot first and ask questions later. So if ever one of those other types appears at your door, and you know who I'm talking about, bang bang theyre dead. Don't need their kind around. So what if the Trick or Treaters on Halloween who hold us up every year are taken out. Buy your own damn candy, kid. |

But where do we go?
Thanks to a new website created by chef and business owner Bryan Crosswhite, that question is now a bit easier.
See, Crosswhite has launched 2amendment.org, an online registry of pro-Second Amendment businesses and restaurants. Members of 2amendment.org receive a decal that they can stick in their window, next to other signs and stickers, that inform patrons that the store or restaurant is gun friendly. |

On that point, he and police agree. York, , who becomes the citys public safety director Thursday, says that a majority of the victims and killers are people who buy and sell illegal drugs. Police were already familiar with most of this year's homicide victims when they were killed, because they had criminal records, York said. For civilians, the evidence of the deep criminal backgrounds of many homicide victims is as obvious as their pictures in the pages of newspapers. Most of those photos are mug shots taken when the victims have been arrested in the past. |

Local groups advocating for the repeal of the SAFE Act say the ruling handed down this week by a federal judge was a small step in the right direction, but not the major leap they had hoped a lawsuit against the gun control law would produce.
A lawsuit brought by gun rights and sportsmens groups led Judge William Skretny in Buffalo to strike down a restriction on the loading of more than seven bullets into a firearm Tuesday.
But Skretny upheld nearly all of the SAFE Acts provisions, including a ban on large-capacity magazines and restrictions on the sale of some semi-automatic rifles, which his ruling argued aided public safety. |

Sometimes you cant please anybody, and there is a good chance that both sides will be appealing Federal Judge William Skretnys year-ending decision on the lawsuit against the SAFE Act.
Brian Stapleton, lawyer for the states Rifle and Pistol Association, speaking to the Buffalo News, predicted dual appeals. His client finds fault with Skretnys upholding the laws ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines. Meanwhile, Stapleton sees the state disagreeing with Skretnys rejection of the seven-round magazine limit as being tenuous, strained and unsupported. |

Stockton police say that Shotspotter, their gunfire detection system, was a big help as people celebrated the new year with gunfire.
Shotspotter is a series of audio sensors placed in troubled neighborhoods which detect, record and locate gunshots. Police are able to quickly get to those areas and find either evidence, weapons, or sometimes suspects. |

One of the different conversations I got involved in recently dealt with weird firearms that have been made through the ages. Odd or unconventionally designed guns have always been around. As far back as flintlock guns, there were swords or walking sticks/canes that incorporated a flintlock pistol into their design.
A truly unique design was created by the German Army in World War II. It was known as the Krummlauf. It was actually an attachment to the Sturmgewehr 44 machine gun, arguably the first assault rifle. |

After working with the district attorneys office, it was discovered that most of the crinimal cases involving the guns have concluded. Therefore the guns do not have to be held anymore. The council gave the police department permission to sell the guns to Silver Dollar Pawn Shop in Alexandria.
Assistant Chief Brian Bernard said the gun sale should give the Marksville Police Department enough funds to purchase AR-15 rifles. Bernard said there are three officers, one on each shift, certified to handle an AR-15 rifle. He added that with the rifles and proper training, more officers could be certified in the handling of the weapon. |

He and his I Love This Bar restaurant in Virginia have come under sustained fire by his fans and gun owners due to the no guns permitted policy at the restaurant.
Now, while Im no bottom-feeding barrister, chances are this flawed decision was made by his ace professional restaurant management team after reviewing various Virginia laws, insurance policy considerations and other legal requirements. |
