A sign outside the Emanuel home also informs trespassers that the mayor has Secret Service protection. It appears that Emanuel, a former Obama White House chief of staff, still has this sign up outside of his house, according to a screenshot (Note: mayors dont get Secret Service):

If we are to believe the timestamp which, amusingly enough, reads 12:01 we must reasonably conclude that the gun control movement managed to get just one minute into 2015 before it substantially embarrassed itself. Take a bow, New Yorker staff writer Adam Gopnik:

A few years back, Engvall was on Bill Mahers show Real Time when the topic of Second Amendment rights came up. At first, Engvall seemed to support gun ownership, but after a moment he began to backpedal. Seems he feels hunting rifles are okay, but gun owners dont need any of those evil-looking black guns: I dont believe theres any reason for a person like myself to own an AK-47 Id be willing to meet you halfway and say I think you can ban guns if you can pull the trigger and 60 bullets come outtheres no need, its not used for hunting, it would ruin any of the meat

As more details emerge about Tuesdays tragic shooting accident in Hayden, Idaho, the New Year is off to a bad start in King County, where a double homicide this morning was definitely no accident.

Much is now being written about the death of 29-year-old Veronica Rutledge at a Hayden Walmart, and the anti-gun Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence wasted little time exploiting the tragedy. Brady spokesman Jonathan Hutson issued a statement quoted by todays Spokane Spokesman-Review, which summarized his remarks as a heart-wrenching reminder that young children and guns dont mix.

Democrat Wendy Davis, who lost her bid to become governor of Texas to Greg Abbott by 59 to 38 percent, has told an interviewer that she now regrets supporting the right of Texans to carry handguns in plain sight, The Daily Caller reported.

Asked by the San Antonio Express-News whether she had any regrets, Davis said, "There is one thing that I would do differently in that campaign and it relates to the position that I took on open carry.

There are fewer than 2,000 legal handguns in Ireland, a fraction of the 200,000 legally held firearms, but garda fear them falling into criminal hands.

Ireland has the third-highest rate of killings by firearms per capita in Europe, a rate seven times higher than in Britain. More than 350 guns were reported stolen last year and a further 53 reported lost.

Garda also want to ban shotguns that hold more than three rounds, and all semi-automatic centre-fire rifles.

So how did this tragic event happen then? There are several factors in handgun safety, especially if children may come into contact with the weapon.

Since the make and model of handgun has not been officially released, there is some speculation as to the actual cause due to differences in firearms.

Preventing unintentional discharge outside of the home can be minimized by following some simple steps.

And a Pennsylvania law goes into effect Jan. 5 that gives gun owners there and the NRA more leverage in challenging and ultimately repealing burdensome local ordinances that tread on the Second Amendment. While some laws continue to ensure Liberty and Rule of Law, most of the legislation only adds meddlesome red tape.

In January 2014, Breitbart News reported that 2013 had been The Year of the Gun. Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) didnt intend it to be that way, but it emerged as the year gun control was defeated.

Now, in January 2015, Breitbart News can report that 2014 emerged as the year states across the country went from defeating gun control to expanding the exercise of gun rights. It was the year in which the Second Amendment triumphed over gun control candidates and proponents in the midterm electionsa year in which some very important court decisions were handed down in support of the right to keep and bear arms.

The Second Amendment Foundation has never been one to let the rights of law-abiding citizens get trampled on without putting up a fight. It should come as no surprise, then, that theyve taken Washington states gun control Initiative 594 to court. Well, parts of it at least.

he news that the parents of the children massacred two years ago in Sandy Hook, near Newtown, Connecticut, by a young man with a Bushmaster semi-automatic rifle, were undertaking a lawsuit against the gun manufacturer was at once encouraging and terribly discouraging. The encouraging part is that those parents, suffering from a grief that those of us who are only witnesses to it can barely begin to comprehend, havent, despite the failure to reinstate assault-weapons bans and stop the next massacre, given way to despair.

There are two stories here (at least). The first is simple: Be aware of this if you are traveling through the State of Maryland.

The second is for those who hold the idea that: "why should gun owners have anything to fear from gun registration if they've not done anything wrong." John Filippidis did nothing wrong but read what happened to him and his family:

A colleague in my office has finally answered for me some eternal questions: Is the AK-47 a better rifle than the M4? And which one is a more effective kill in an office environment like ours?

While we both agree an AK rifle would do a better job, I am beginning to have serious doubts about my colleague who sits close by. Luckily for me, we are in Hong Kong where the government bans guns.

If we were in the US, my colleague would probably already own an AR-15, which is the civilian version of the M4, or a semi-automatic AK, as most states ban fully automatic ones. I would have reported our conversation immediately to management, perhaps even called the police and called in sick.

On 30 December, an Idaho woman was accidentally shot dead by her two-year-old son while shopping at a local Walmart.

Such cases involving young children and firearms are shocking but not altogether uncommon in the US. Each year, dozens of children are killed in unintentional shootings; others pull the trigger, accidentally injuring and killing parents, siblings and friends.

These are preventable deaths, said Shannon Watts, the founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America. Theyre tragic and horrible, but ultimately preventable.

Chris Hamilton is a mother and gun enthusiast. Her two boys are now teens, but she can't help but think about Rutledge.

"Me personally, being a mother, when I sell a gun I'm stressing as much -- think of how you are going to store that gun," she said.

She strongly believes that concealed carry purses are not for mothers with small children.

"I think they are for professional women. I think they are for women for work, or shopping, but I don't think they are for a mother with small children. They don't make concealed carry diaper bags that I have seen. You don't want to mix the two together," said Hamilton.

A new law takes effect today aimed at keeping guns out of the hands of the seriously mentally ill. The state will now begin sending more information to a national criminal background check database.

...

Now, the state will be able to submit limited information about people who are involuntarily committed in court for mental health treatment or deemed by a judge to pose a threat of violence to themselves or others.

The House of Representatives convenes this Wednesday in Concord to adopt deadlines and rules of operation for the next two years. While the rules of the House typically produce little fanfare for the media, one proposed rule change could have a significant effect on safety and security in the State House.

The Republican majority in the House has proposed removing the current ban on carrying guns and other deadly weapons in the House chamber and the visitors gallery. Deadly weapons were first prohibited in the House back in 1971 after a fellow lawmaker threatened House Speaker Marshall Cobleigh. Aside from the two-year period that Speaker Bill OBrien wielded the gavel, the policy has remained in place since.

If youre a licensed hunter in Indiana, depending on the season, you can kill a deer with any of a wide variety of weapons shotguns, handguns and rifles, muzzle-loaders, and bows and crossbows. But you cant use rifles that fire certain high-powered cartridges.

The Indiana Natural Resources Commission is asking for comments on a proposal to allow hunters to use these more powerful weapons.

The commission, which sets the regulations enforced by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, could make a decision by May, in time for next falls deer-hunting season.
