Many consider Indiana a gun friendly state. And in recent years there has been an effort to loosen some restrictions the state does impose, but as gun violence escalates there is also push back. At the end of a 2017 special study committee, Indiana legislative staff attorney Akash Burney reviewed the states gun laws. Indiana does not require handgun owners to be licensed or register individual handguns, Burney read, Indiana only requires a license if that individual desire to carry a handgun in public.

"District 5 officers and the Milwaukee Police Department officers throughout the city strive to make the city safe," said Capt. Timothy Heier. Heier said one way this happens is the recovery of guns from felons -- and getting drugs off the streets.

Gov. Asa Hutchinson last month chimed in by letter to the Arkansas State Police to offer his opinion that it's legal for people to openly carry handguns within the state's borders. It sounds pretty official when the governor makes such a statement, but it doesn't change the law. The governor doesn't get to pass laws. He can veto them all he wants, but he can't pass one. State law is the responsibility of the 100 members of the state House of Representatives and 35 members of the Arkansas Senate. The governor can have an opinion that all state-owned vehicles should be painted pink, but that doesn't make it law. The same goes for our attorney general.

What makes classic sporting firearms classic is either a matter of opinion based on functionality or largely a quality in the eye of the beholder, according to sporting firearms experts. And defining such sporting weapons is no easy task. For most South Carolinians, primarily live bird hunters or trap and skeet shooting enthusiasts, sporting firearms are side-by-side and over-and-under shotguns. Perhaps a few fine-grade rifles for deer and other big game might be included in the mix.

Dr. Roach writes: As I write this, another gun tragedy has taken place in the United States. By the time it gets published, about 1,500 more people are likely to have been killed by guns, many accidentally. Physicians have a responsibility to protect the health of their patients and the public, and I cant be silent on this any longer.

2017 was a rough year for American Outdoor Brands (NASDAQ:AOBC), both from an operational and a market perspective. Sales plunged as the year went on as demand for guns dropped, and starting in June the stock began a nosedive that doesn't seem to have stopped. As the calendar rolls over to 2018 and investors assess their portfolios, it's worth asking if American Outdoors is a value stock at this point. The answer may surprise you.

In a victory for law-abiding gun owners in the Hawkeye State, the Iowa Supreme Court has scaled back the states earlier-enacted ban on guns in courthouses. The states high court in late December said it will allow guns to be carried into county courthouses, with some restrictions. The decision is partially up to the local governing bodies, which must file a written request before getting the authority to allow guns in the public areas of their courthouses.

With the number of homicides in Philadelphia up 14 percent in 2017, police have created a new gun task force, which begins this year. With over 300 murders and 1,200 shootings last year, there's no questions gun violence is a problem that needs to be addressed. Now, Philadelphia police are hoping a new gun violence task force could be part of the solution. "We gotta get these guys that have guns and are inclined to use them off the street," Philadelphia Police Captain Sekou Kinebrew said.
