California's sweeping new restrictions on public possession of firearms, many of which a federal judge enjoined this month after deeming them "repugnant to the Second Amendment," took effect today thanks to a stay that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit issued on Saturday. That means Californians with permits that notionally allow them to carry concealed handguns will have to think twice before using them, because the state has declared a long list of locations they routinely visit to be "sensitive places" where firearms are prohibited.

If theres one thing every member of Congress should agree on, its that Americas veterans deserve the full benefit of all the freedoms and constitutional safeguards those veterans served to protect. That has not been the case, shockingly, when it comes to Second Amendment rights. Fortunately, bipartisan coalitions from both the U.S. House and Senate took a major step in reversing this sorry state of affairs last October. The story of that long-overdue reform is a cautionary tale of how seemingly reasonable gun-control laws can be exploited to disarm law-abiding Americans even those who have served under arms.

I have a certain moral weakness that when I find something reliable, I simply trust it to do its job and sometimes overlook routine maintenance. I hadnt completely done this with the Mossberg 500 Cruiser I relied on for the better part of 25+ years but I did neglect to clean it regularly. No worries: The gun kept working.

If youre like me you think of rifles, when you hear the name Savage Arms. While I have owned several Savage guns at this point, they had all been Savages accurate and affordable bolt action offerings. Unbeknownst to me Savage Arms had put out a new semi-auto shotgun offering with the Renegauge series of semi-auto shotguns. A pretty new addition to their line they were originally announced at Shot Show 2020, the series is made up of seven models; Competition, Waterfowl, Field, Security, Turkey Obsession, Turkey Bottomland, and the Prairie.

There are new regulations for anyone hunting in the new year. Starting Jan. 1, trapped animals must be killed humanely using specific traps and bait. Trappers must also maintain a 50-foot distance from trails and highways. Vermont Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Chris Herrick hopes the new rules prevent the wrong animals, like pets, from wandering into traps.

Can you really compare a short-action rifle cartridge designed for a carbine to a magnum long-range rifle cartridge?
You might be surprised how the 277 Fury vs 300 Win Mag battle turns out because the Fury packs more of a punch than other non-magnum rounds, if we can even call it that.

The 224 Valkyrie and 22-250 Remington are two centerfire 22 caliber rifle cartridges that excel at long range accuracy and varmint control. The decision over which cartridge is superior primarily circles around which rifle system you prefer: the semi-auto AR-15 or bolt-action rifles. The 22-250 Rem is the older of the two and is typically relegated to bolt guns. It has been a mainstay varmint hunting cartridge since its release in 1965 and is considered the second fastest 22 caliber cartridge on the market. |
