"A Queen Creek munitions stash that federal agents touted Thursday as a potent military arsenal is nothing but a big dud, according to a defense attorney in the case and several experts on military firepower.

" 'That's not a cache of weapons,' said Louis Aloise, a Boston attorney representing suspect Scott Segal. 'It's a gun collection. The vast majority are not even functional.' "

"Ronald Dixon froze in fear when he saw an intruder enter his toddler son's bedroom, and his heart pounded wildly after he fired two shots in a confrontation with the stranger." ...

"On Dec. 14, Dixon shot a career burglar who allegedly broke into his Canarsie house. Dixon used a 9-mm. pistol legally purchased in Florida that he says he was in the process of registering here."

"Dixon, who holds two computer jobs, was charged with misdemeanor gun possession, and the Brooklyn district attorney offered him a plea bargain that would require four weekends on Rikers."

-------
This district attorney is trying to make an example of a man who was defending the life of his child for anyone in violation of New York's ridiculous, fascist gun laws!

"Mark Goodman, executive director of the Arlington, Va.-based Student Press Law Center, said he has never heard of a university challenging an open records request on the basis of national security."

" 'It's a very disturbing argument,' Goodman said. 'If the court were to buy that it is a matter of national security, there's no end to where government entities would use that argument to withhold public records.' "

Georgia gunrunning case shows why gun owners resist more laws

"Slap-on-the-wrist sentences like this are why the firearms community justifiably feels as though it has become the scapegoat for this nation's crime problems. Such light penalties are also why gun groups oppose passage of any new laws that merely ratchet down their rights. How prosecutors could drop a charge of cocaine trafficking, when the flow of illegal drugs into this country is easily more responsible for our social ills than our constitutional right to keep and bear arms, is dumbfounding."

-------
A truly wonderful surprise to read such an opinion piece published in a left-of-center, pro-collective, anti-gun media publication such as the Chronicle.

"Project Exile is usually accompanied by advertising campaigns, including billboards. The NRA has sunk millions of dollars into such ads, including ads in Oakland, said Andrew Arulanandam, spokesman for the organization." ...

"Rand Corp. criminologist Peter Greenwood said the study shows Exile has been a flop: 'One of the most popular strategies developed during the past decade to reduce firearm violence is a bust. It has no impact. It does not work.' "

"Freedom - does it rest in a document or documents written by Man? I think not. I think it rests in our hearts and that we are under no obligation to our fellow Man other that to not interfere in his life, property, and person. Documents written by men are just that - documents written by men. But no man has control over any other man excepting if he has contracted with the other to perform some service or some other commercial equity contract with him."

"Joyce Malcolm, professor of history at Bentley College in Waltham, Massachusetts, and author of 'Guns and Violence: The English Experience,' said that dismantling of self-defense laws has resulted in increased crime rates."

"But a leading British gun control advocate has taken issue with Malcolm's conclusions and argued that less gun control would intensify the level of violence on British streets."

"Gun control is one of those notions that seems to make sense on the surface, that reasonable people are initially inclined to accept. But that is the problem with gun control. It is wishful thinking: simplistic and naive. It is typical liberal thinking: Social problems can be solved by putting words on paper in state and federal statute books."

"Specifically, my legislation repeals the five-day waiting period and the 'instant' background check, which enables the federal government to compile a database of every gun owner in America. My legislation also repeals the misnamed ban on 'semi-automatic' weapons, which bans entire class of firearms for no conceivable reason beside the desire of demagogic politicians to appear tough on crime. Finally, my bill amends the Gun Control Act of 1968 by deleting the 'sporting purposes' test, which allows the Treasury Secretary to infringe on second amendment rights by classifying a firearm (handgun, rifle, shotgun) as a 'destructive device' simply because the Secretary believes the gun to be 'non-sporting.' " 'Many in law enforcement and education would not use the NRA video - not because of its content - because of its association with the NRA.' "

"In fact, the NRA and the MEA videos are very similar..."

-------
Translation: "We would rather create a blatant, pathetically stupid Eddie Eagle rip-off than give any appearance of making peace with the oldest organization dedicated to gun rights and education in the country, even though they're experts, and we're a whining, hand-wringing band of maggot socialists."

-------
Another interesting factoid this alleged "reporter" failed to mention is that despite the claim that educators were wary about the NRA connection, in 2002 alone, 68 Michigan public schools used Eddie Eagle to teach 80,000 students gun safety. Apparently, giving the appearance that Karen Schultz speaks for all Michigan schools and law enforcement agencies was much more important than actually reporting facts.

"If only Mr. Martin had lied about his own thoughts! Then he might have been set free. But he is too stubborn and principled a man for that (even if some of his principles are legally, if not morally, wrong). It is surely a curious system that demands of prisoners that they should lie as a condition of their release. In this, however, the parole board is only demanding what is increasingly demanded of the rest of us: lies, lies and more lies."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crime. Cesare Beccaria, quoted by Thomas Jefferson
