"Firearms welcome."
That's the message on a sign posted in the window at House of Leaf, a cigar and billiards lounge in Saginaw's Old Town district.
Kory Veitengruber owns the lounge located at 108 N. Michigan. He said he got the idea to post the sign, which he found online, after browsing the conversations and posts within a Michigan open carry group on Facebook.
"A lot of the big-box businesses are not allowing it, and I, personally, disagree with that. So I decided to make it known that I'm pro-gun," Veitengruber said.
The sign posted at House of Leaf reads:
"Firearms welcome Please keep all weapons holstered unless need arises. In such a case, judicious marksmanship is appreciated." |

The gun-carrying man who police say helped detain an armed-robbery suspect at the Anchorage 5th Avenue Mall on Sunday says it was the first time he ever needed to draw his gun in public.
Matthew Willhite, 22, a chef at Athena Pizza in Palmer, said his involvement in 18-year-old Yan Bangouts arrest began as an ordinary shopping trip...
As we walked up, I saw security wrestling with the suspect, and I went up to see if they needed any help, Willhite said. One security officer is telling people to back away and suddenly hes yelling, Gun, gun, gun!
Willhite said he immediately drew his own handgun --- and aimed it at Bangout, at an angle where he could see me, but nobody else was going to get hurt. |

SB-344 Burden of Proof by Sen. Rob Bradley is on the Special Order Calendar to be heard on the Senate Floor Thursday, January 21, 2016, between 1:00-4:00pm.
SB-344 restores the Stand Your Ground law to the original intent of the Legislature by putting the burden of proof BACK ON THE STATE where it belongs.
Through court action, prosecutors and courts have reversed the self-defense law that gives immunity from arrest, detaining in custody, charging and prosecuting until and unless an investigation reveals there is probable cause to believe the act was not lawful self-defense. They created a special Stand Your Ground that forces the victim to prove innocence rather than the state prove guilt. This bill stops that. |

But it also worked because when the cameras were turned off and the darkness descended, King and his followers did what they had to do to survive another day in the movement.
They guarded themselves and King with guns.
Charles Cobb Jr., a veteran of the civil rights movement who spent much of the 1960s in Mississippi as an organizer with the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, explored the role of guns in the civil rights movement in his 2014 book, This Nonviolent Stuffll Get You Killed: How Guns Made the Civil Rights Movement Possible.
In it, he examines how self-defense complemented peaceful resistance against segregation in the South. |

All my life Ive heard gun stories, but theres one kind of story Ive never heard. None of my family members, neighbors, or co-workers has ever told me about using a gun against an intruder, a carjacker, a mugger, or any other dangerous strangernot one case of self-defense among all their stories. |

Appearing before members of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch defended the president's authority to curb gun violence via executive action.
In a hearing of the Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies, Lynch reiterated that President Barack Obama's actions adhere to existing law.
Witnesses and members of Congress demonstrated little outward agreement at the two-panel hearing, however, as to the perceived legality of Obama's initiatives, their effectiveness or their underlying intent. |

Attorney General Loretta Lynch told lawmakers on the Hill today that she has "complete confidence that the common-sense steps announced by the president are lawful" but harbors "no illusions that these measures by themselves will end gun violence in America."
"They clarify laws that are already on the books. Because clear notice will help ensure that those laws are followed," Lynch told the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, and Science at a hearing to examine President Obama's gun control executive orders. |

Of particular interest was a footnote by the majority, In a different case under appropriate facts, the ordinances broad prohibition on carrying arms for purposes of self-defense may well be constitutionally infirm. Essentially, they conceded that some other knife, designed as, or historically considered, a weapon, for example, might well be afforded the protection of the Second Amendment.
Nobody should take this decision to mean that its okay to violate Seattles ordinance against fixed blade knives or knives more than 3 1/2 inches long because their knife was designed as a weapon rather than as a kitchen tool. |

Stun gun manufacturer TASER has addressed what the company says is customers' biggest complaint -- size -- with a weapon so small it can fit in a purse or pocket.
Unveiled this week at the annual SHOT Show in Las Vegas, the TASER Pulse starts at $399. It's 5.25 inches long, about the same as a smartphone, while it's 4.5-inches tall and slightly more than 1 inch wide. Everything about its look is geared toward consumers.
"The biggest complaint [from customers] was usually the size," Steve Tuttle, vice president of communications at TASER told ABC News. "People would say, 'I like it but it's more for the nightstand.' While it's a great nightstand device, that doesn't help it when you're out and about." |

The Kansas Board of Regents on Wednesday approved a policy allowing anyone lawfully able to carry a concealed handgun to do so on public university campuses beginning next year.
Individual universities will now draft their own policies.
The Regents policy still bans weapons generally on campus, as well as open carry handguns, but beginning July 1, 2017, anyone 21 years or older who qualifies to carry a concealed handgun under state law can do so on campuses. It may be a violation under the new policy to pull that handgun in defense of someone else, but not in self-defense. |

Gun owners in Kansas will still face some restrictions at state universities even after they're allowed to carry their concealed weapons onto campuses and into some buildings next year under a policy the state Board of Regents approved Wednesday.
The new policy will still ban the open carrying of guns, and it will require gun owners who carry concealed to keep them secure when storing them in cars or dormitories. The policy contains an exception to the open-carry ban for someone who pulls a gun in self-defense, but it contains no specific exception for defending others. |

The bill lays out fines and prison time for a "person who works as a journalist without registering," culminating in a maximum punishment of either a $500 fine or a 30-day prison term. Those who head media outlets that hire unregistered journalists would be subject to the same penalties.
"Basically, it is the (concealed weapons permit) law with journalists and pens instead of guns," Pitts tells the Greenwood, S.C., Index-Journal.
"My real issue is simply to start to debate about all of your constitutional rights. And that they are all equally important, and they are all separate," Pitts tells the newspaper. "This was an easy parallel." |

Florida sheriffs Wednesday proposed an alternative to a controversial bill that would let people with concealed-weapons licenses openly display firearms in public, but the proposal quickly drew opposition from Second Amendment advocates.
The Florida Sheriffs Association, which has opposed the open-carry measure, outlined proposed steps that would provide immunity to people who inadvertently or accidentally display firearms. However, a release from the association noted the proposal "stops short of Florida becoming a complete open-carry state."

Idaho State Representatives Heather Scott (R-1) and Ronald Nate (R-34) kept their promise to release a draft of their permit-less carry bill to the public today. The two legislators worked through the summer and fall with various interested parties (gun owners, law enforcement, legislators, etc.) to develop this important legislation.
If passed, Scott and Nates bill would legalize carrying a concealed weapon without a permit both outside and within city limits throughout Idahoeliminating potential confusion in Idahos gun laws and providing consistency in the law in both counties and cities. |

What is it about Hollywood elites who jump on their soapboxes proclaiming to be saviors of America, but then do everything imaginable to undermine the core principles of its founding?
Take Hollywoods anti-gun glitterati for example. Between making personal fortunes from glorifying guns in their movies and living exuberant lifestyles that includes armed security, one would think they would support their fellow Americans right to self-defense. Nope. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
As an individual, I believe, very strongly, that handguns should be banned and that there should be stringent, effective control of other firearms. However, as a judge, I know full well that the question of whether handguns can be sold is a political one, not an issue of products liability law, and that this is a matter for the legislatures, not the courts. The unconventional theories advanced in this case (and others) are totally without merit, a misuse of products liability laws. Judge Buchmeyer, Patterson v. Gesellschaft, 1206 F.Supp. 1206, 1216 (N.D. Tex. 1985) |
