Errynn Rodgers is the founder of ARM, a liberal gun group that has been operating in Colorado since 2019. ARM is dedicated to training marginalized people in the use of firearms and self-defense, she says. They also offer medical training. Rodgers continues that ARMs mission is to provide access to training and knowledge that is difficult to come by. By overcoming access barriers, they are providing training that allows those that have never handled or fired a gun, those that own a gun, or those that have access to a gun, the ability to stay safe while promoting their right to self-defense.

A motion filed Wednesday by Mark Richards, Rittenhouses lead defense attorney, asks for the AR-15-style rifle to be returned to Rittenhouse. A hearing is now scheduled for Jan. 28 in front of Judge Bruce Schroeder.

The spokesperson for Rittenhouse, Dave Hancock, previously told a reporter, Theres nothing to celebrate about that weapon; there isnt. Kyle has no interest and no want to recover that weapon, and absolutely no interest to sell it or anything.

Republicans in the state Assembly passed a series of bills to expand gun laws in the badger state, including a proposal to allow some high school students and parents to have firearms on school property.

During the Assembly's return to the floor since the new year, Republicans passed legislation that would lower the concealed carry age from 21 to 18, allow legal gun owners to have their weapon in their vehicle when dropping off or picking up their child from school, and allow anyone with a concealed carry license from any state to be armed in Wisconsin.

With gun violence on the rise in Wisconsin and across the nation, Republicans believe more residents should be able to carry a gun legally to protect themselves.

The seemingly never-ending fight between Arizona gun rights advocates who want students to be able to carry guns and colleges and universities that opposes allowing firearms on campuses is back yet again.

Republicans on the Arizona state Senate Judiciary committee on Thursday approved legislation that would require public colleges and universities to allow anyone with a concealed weapons permit to carry a gun. Democrats unanimously opposed the bill, which now heads to the full Senate.

A new study published Thursday by a leading non-profit organization that focuses on gun violence prevention found that there is a direct correlation in states with weaker gun laws and higher rates of gun deaths, including homicides, suicides and accidental killings.

The study by Everytown for Gun Safety determined that California had the strongest gun laws in the country. Hawaii topped the list with the lowest rate of gun deaths in the country while Mississippi led the country with both the weakest gun laws and highest rate of gun deaths.

Let's return to situation 3 from the Introduction: Craig comes to rob Danielle's store; he is demanding money, and Danielle has reason to think that, if she doesn't comply, he'll injure some of the patrons. Does this make Danielle legally liable if she refuses to comply, on the theory that she has an affirmative duty to protect her business visitors, and failing to give in to the demands violates that duty?

No, several courts have ruled, expressly recognizing a "no duty" rule. The most prominent case is Kentucky Fried Chicken of California, Inc. v. Superior Court, from the California Supreme Court:

After a months-long tease, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey announced shes in, officially running for governor as a Democrat.

Right now, were in a time where people are demanding that what hasnt worked in our systems be addressed, Healey said at a campaign launch outside East Bostons Maverick Station Thursday.

With COVID, she said, with so much being dismantled, with so much being disrupted, with the ways of life that we knew them sort of gone, weve got an opportunity to move forward and new in different ways.

The Wisconsin Assembly approved a package of Republican-authored bills on Thursday that would dramatically expand gun rights in the state, moving forward with the proposals even though Democratic Gov. Tony Evers will almost certainly veto them.

The proposals would allow people with concealed carry licenses to go armed on school grounds and in churches attached to private schools; lower the minimum age for obtaining a concealed carry license from 21 to 18; and allow anyone with a concealed carry license from any state to go armed in Wisconsin. Currently, only people with licenses from states that conduct background checks on applicants can carry concealed guns in Wisconsin.

State Representative Bruce Griffey, who represents District 75 in the Tennessee General Assembly, is calling the proposed legislation "Kyle's Law," according to Nashville-based WKRN-TV.

A store clerk in Illinois shot and killed an armed robbery suspect and will not be facing charges at this time.

After a preliminary review of surveillance video and witness interviews, it appears the use of force by the employee was justified as self-defense and for the defense of others inside the store during the robbery, Rock Island County States Attorney Dora Villarreal said.

The store clerk explained to KWQC why he pulled the trigger.

Both counties had issued a series of stay-at-home orders and restrictions on non-essential businesses that included a 48-day closure of gun shops, ammunition shops and firing ranges following the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.

Would-be gun owners and gun-rights advocacy groups including the Second Amendment Foundation sued, arguing the rules violated the U.S. Constitution's Second Amendment by banning acquiring firearms for self-defense purposes.

Industry Day at the Range is the best part of SHOT Show for writers, where we get the first half of the day to ourselves with manufacturers, and to actually test their products. Its always fun to shoot up someone elses ammo, and a free meal ticket for lunch from one of a half-dozen food trucks (thank you North Star Arms and Profense) is the icing on the cake. Still, it is a working day after all, the task being to present readers with whats new, so here is one writers take on the most interesting products found at SHOT Show 2022s Industry Day at the Range.

Senate lawmakers seemed to signal Wednesday their support for a bill to eliminate gun licensing laws in Indiana.

The Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, ending just before 6 p.m., heard testimony and didnt amend or vote on the bill, which is also referred to as constitutional carry.

Whether it becomes law or not, good people will continue to be good people theyll just have to pay a little bit more for it. Bad people will continue to do what they do, and theyll do it for free, said Wadesville Republican Sen. Jim Tomes, the bills author.

The 220th legislative session in New Jersey started on January 11th, 2022. With a solid bit of luck, some hard work of gun owners staying on top of the legislators, and groups like the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs, National Rifle Association, and Firearms Policy Coalition keeping everyone informed, Phil Murphys anti-gun package fell flat. We kicked Steve Sweeney, former Senator and former Senate President to the curb. Thank you Senator Ed Durr, toot toot! The citizens of the Garden State now have a small window to take a breather.

Ive heard the 556 v 300BO debate characterized as a Ford v Chevy comparison. As if both were very comparable.

There might have been a small part of me that could have entertained that notion as a true thing before I researched and wrote Part 1 and Part 2 of this article series. But there is no foundation for a Ford v Chevy debate left in my mind at this point.

Local governments or law enforcement officers who enforce federal gun regulations that exceed Iowas rules would be subject to $50,000 fines under a legislative proposal advanced Wednesday by Iowa Senate Republicans.

The proposal, which Senate Republicans have titled the Second Amendment Preservation Act, would nullify any federal gun regulations that exceed Iowa state law. The legislation is similar in spirit to resolutions passed by several Iowa counties declaring themselves so-called sanctuary counties from federal gun laws.

Marylands attorney general introduced new legislation Thursday targeting ghost guns.

Attorney General Brian Frosh detailed legislation that would first ban the sale, receipt and transfer of unfinished parts used to make ghost guns before an outright ban on ghost guns would be put in place in January 2023.

Ghost guns dont have serial numbers, making them untraceable, and their parts can be bought online and assembled at home.

One of the groups taking the lead in warning about Bidens potential actions is the Second Amendment Foundation. Founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb said he is concerned that with his agenda stalled, Biden will turn to guns as an issue he thinks will save his legacy.

With virtually every one of his major campaign promises being defeated, what remains is an attack on the Second Amendment, he said.

...It will use Bidens words calling for gun grabs, including this from the 2020 campaign: Whether it is a 9 mm pistol or a rifle, it is ridiculous. I am continuing to push to eliminate the sale of those things.

U.S. District Judge Larry Alan Burns has declined to block Californias enactment of Assembly Bill 173, an amendment to California firearms laws authorizing the attorney general to disclose gun owners personal information to the California Firearm Violence Research Center at UC Davis and any other bona fide research institution meeting certain requirements, reports the Courthouse News Service.

Burns found that there was no emergency to warrant restraining California from sharing millions of gun owners personal information with gun violence researchers.

Griffeys bill seeks to reimburse those found to be acting in self-defense in cases of murder. Rittenhouse himself was acquitted of all charges in November.

As introduced, requires a court to order the state to reimburse a criminal defendant for all reasonable costs incurred in defense if the defendant was charged with a criminal homicide offense and found not guilty due to the justification of self-defense, the bill reads. If passed, it would require the state to reimburse trial costs and loss of wages to those found not guilty.

It's called the Second Amendment Preservation Act and it comes with penalties.

It prohibits federal infringement on the Second Amendment rights of Iowans within the state's borders, specifically when that infringement comes from a federal department of agency in the form of a rule or regulation, instead of laws passed by Congress.

The bill follows trends at the state and national level. Thirty-three counties in Iowa have made themselves 2nd Amendment sanctuaries.

The Ninth Circuit sided with the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) on Thursday when it struck down a Los Angeles County order that forced gun stores and shooting ranges to close in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. NRA-ILA originally challenged this order in March of 2020, and filed an appeal a year later.

"The court today rightfully recognized that Los Angeles County violated Second Amendment rights when it shut down gun stores and ranges in the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic," said Michael Jean, NRA's director of the Office of Litigation Counsel. "This is an important decision. It ensures that California -- or any state -- cannot use a crisis to trample on the Constitutional rights of citizens.
