The Steuben County Sheriffs Department is criticizing New Yorks new gun-control law, with the police union questioning how it would enforce the new provisions. At this time, it is not the intention of any member of our association to deprive any law abiding citizen their right to possess any legally owned firearm that has not committed another crime as defined by the current laws of the state of New York, the Deputies Association of the County of Steuben said on the departments Facebook page today. |

Watch how this works. First, the government responds to the September 11th attack by passing the Patriot Act, which is purportedly designed to protect us from foreign terrorists. Most of America cheers it on, never realizing that within the act is a broad definition for something categorized as domestic terrorism, or activities that appear to be intended to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, or to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion.
Submitter's comment: With foreign wars winding down, some people at the Pentagon seem to be planning for future job security. Thank God for Oath Keepers (oathkeepers.org) |

The gun control controversy is only the latest of many issues to be debated almost solely in terms of fixed preconceptions, with little or no examination of hard facts. Media discussions of gun control are dominated by two factors: the National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment. But the over-riding factual question is whether gun control laws actually reduce gun crimes in general or murder rates in particular.
Submitter's comment: Mr. Sowell hits another one out of the park. |

Hunting and fishing retailer Cabelas Inc. will not participate in what has been billed as Pennsylvanias largest outdoor sports show next month following the decision to ban the display and sale of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. Event organizer Reed Exhibitions imposed the ban at the Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show, scheduled to be held Feb. 2-10 at the state Farm Show complex in Harrisburg, following the deadly Connecticut elementary school shooting that has prompted the ongoing gun control debate in Washington.
Submitter's comment: All but Fudds will boycott this show. |

[Editor: Bonnie was spot on when she wrote this and given that there were five negligent discharges as part of Gun Appreciation Day events nationwide, it's time to revisit it.]
The first weekend in June my sister and I had the pleasure of attending the Indy 1500 gun show in Indianapolis for Guns Save Life. We drummed up some good publicity for the organization and a good time was had by all.
This was the second gun show Ive attended this year, and the second time theres been a negligent discharge.
The first occurrence was, of course, in Bloomington, which was nothing short of a tragedy. Two people were seriously injured and lives have been altered by that single event. |

Champaign, IL station WCIA Channel 3 was there at Springfield, Illinois Gun Appreciation Day rally on Saturday, January 19th.
At the event, there were hundreds of supporters of the Constitution. A half-dozen speakers told their stories and energized the audience.
CNN was present and showed a live shot of the rally in their report.
...Hundreds of pro-civil rights supporters of the Constitution and a half-dozen opponents.
Guess who Channel 3 interviews for their report?
No, it was one of those seeking restrictions upon our civil rights.
The functional equivalent of a big civil rights rally from the 1960s, and a local news station chooses to interview a segregationist instead of one of the civil rights supporters. |

Can you name these folks? Better yet, can you name the crime they committed? Some have been executed. One actually was convicted of murder only to be released so he could murder again. The sex and ethnicity is as varied as the murder weapons. You have whites, blacks, Asians, young, old, military and even a stay home mom. The agent of death? Hammer, car, gun, bathtub, knife and fertilizer mixed with diesel fuel. Two of these people actually convinced others to do their bidding. Murders occurred in theaters, trains, army bases, bathrooms, Hollywood, FBI buildings, Las Vegas side walks, college campus's, gas stations, open air political rallies, home fires, elementary schools, DC suburbs and random NYC addresses. |

Cabela's Inc., the North American hunting and fishing retailer, announced Saturday that it will not participate in the Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show to be held Feb. 2-10 at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. This comes on the heels of smaller retailers boycotting because of the decision by event organizer Reed Exhibitions to ban the display and sale of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. |

The Gun Appreciation Day rally in Springfield had a huge turnout, excellent speakers (thank you Ernie Johnson!) and was a great success overall. See below for some photos.
The rallies organized by Guns Across America in Illinois and other states received significant media attention. Even some of the anti-2nd Amendment outlets, such as USA Today, gave the event a reasonably neutral treatment. |

Well, congratulations to Citrus County, Florida for providing America with the next Daniel Harless-style video.
Harless, of course, was the Canton, Ohio cop who threatened to execute a law-abiding card-carrying good guy for having the audacity to lawfully exercise his right to carry the means with which to protect himself. Harless was eventually canned (links to videos can be found here) and subsequently won his job back if he could pass a medical screening.
A couple of days ago, this new video from Citrus County, Florida made its splash. Now its gone viral.
Dont just get angry or irritated. Make your thoughts known on this clear 1983 violation. |

On this crisp January morning, the day of Barack Hussein Obamas second inauguration (or his second coming, as Newsweek would have it), we find it pertinent to send a message of thanks to our enlightened and benevolent ruler for everything he has done for his humble subjects during his first term in office.
1. We thank you for helping put more guns than ever before in the hands of American citizens. We are especially grateful for your proactive approach to promoting Americas favorite rifle. Many who thought the black rifle was just an expensive toy, now find it to be an indispensable tool. In fact, no one in the history of this nation has done more to popularize modern semi-automatic firearms than you have, Mr. President! |

PREAMBLE
Two common mistakes that many pro-Second Amendment people make are either (1) complaining (to fellow gun owners) or (2) preaching to the choir. In this article I pledge that I wont complain and I wont preach to you about why so n so law is ridiculous. Instead, I want to share with you some thoughts with the hope that my articulation of these thoughts will make you better prepared, and to give you greater resolve in taking on the forces that oppose the Second Amendment and everything it stands for.
I buy guns for a variety of reasons. I want to share those reasons with you in as orderly a fashion as I can be, and yet be entertaining. Here is Why I Buy Guns. |

The folks at Central Illinois Honor Flight sent this to Guns Save Life in thanks for what our family did for them at Januarys GSL meeting in Rantoul, IL.
In that meeting, at the conclusion of a presentation on what the Honor Flight program is all about by Honor Flight volunteer Matt Difanis, GSLs President John Boch borrowed someones cap and threw $20 in it to start it around the room to raise some money for a great cause.
Ten minutes later, roughly four caps filled with cash made quite a pile in front of Mr. Difanis. It totaled $902 on the first count. GSLs members voted to write a check from GSL to make it an even thousand. |

Barack Obama and Illinois Governor Patrick Quinn, along with the likes of New Yorks Governor Cuomo have awakened a sleeping giant. Attitudes about guns are changing throughout America, and they are changing quickly.
For example, on the national scale, attitudes about guns rights and gun ownership are very positive overall. And Americans who were ambivalent about guns two months ago are embracing gun ownership and the benefits of firearm ownership enthusiastically.
Even the NRA, long-castigated by the gun control advocates as the boogieman in firearm civil rights, has a far more positive appeal to everyday Americans than does the entertainment industry by nearly a 2:1 margin. |

"To all at GunsSaveLives,
"Im sorry guys, you have got it wrong. Guns dont save lives, they take them. Since I am not a US citizen you might wonder what I know about it. I live in the UK where gun control is much tighter. Thats not to say we dont have gun crime, every now and then some lunatic goes on the rampage with a gun (usually one they legally have access to). ...But I dont believe that arming good people would have helped. Being able to use a gun effectively to defend yourself and others and avoid harming bystanders is a skill beyond most of us. Soldiers are trained for years to do exactly that...."
