"While millions of Americans rejoiced Tuesday ... others feared the demise of one of our basic rights the Second Amendment. Gun sales nationwide rose following the election and inauguration of President Barack Obama, and they show no sign of stopping. Many gun stores named Obama their salesman of the year, and sheriffs departments have seen an increase in weapons permit applications since November. Gun rights advocates claim Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress will take action to restrict their ability to purchase, own and use firearms. Some even believe their guns will be taken away altogether."

... "As a crime fighting tool, microstamping offers very little potential. It can be defeated by measures as simple as replacing the firing pin ... and using steel cased ammo ... or by simply policing one's fired brass at the crime scene. Also, even if legibly stamped cartridge cases are found, the gun can only be tracked back to its last known purchaser. This means, of course, that the next step will be requiring registration of all gun firearms (sound familiar?)."

"Microstamping is not a strategy for 'crime fighting'--it's a strategy for citizen disarmament--slow and 'reasonable' (according to its supporters) disarmament, but disarmament nonetheless. As such, it is hardly surprising that Mayor Slay so enthusiastically endorses it." ...

With the 20th Congressional District's Kirsten Gillibrand appointed to the U.S. Senate by Governor Patterson, the choice for her replacement is clear: Assembly Republican Leader Jim Tedisco is the only candidate with a proven record of protecting Second Amendment Constitutional freedoms. Jim Tedisco has been a true friend to hunters and gun owners, as he understands the crucial importance of safeguarding the right to bear arms. His voting record and vocal, public support for the Second Amendment have been clear, consistent and genuinely appreciated by gun owners and our association. I am proudly endorsing Jim Tedisco for the 20th Congressional District, where he will be a strong voice for protecting the Second Amendment.

At a marathon hearing Thursday, backers and opponents of a bill to expand gun rights in Montana painted distinctly different pictures of the state and its gun laws...
If passed, the bill would, among other things:

allow people to carry a concealed weapon without a permit;

greatly strengthen self-defense protections in the state;

allow people to display their gun to deter an attack;

allow people to use a gun whenever at risk of physical harm;

and, in shooting incidents in which the person who fired the gun claimed self defense, require the state to prove that it was not.

More than 20 people lined up to support the bill, including a representative from the National Rifle Association and private citizens...
