"We had another show planned for tonight, but it never took place. I actually suffered a home invasion on Friday evening and could not leave my home on Saturday to do the remote broadcast we had planned. It's a long story that, thank God, might have been much worse given a slight turn in events. My wife Diane actually walked into the house as scumbags were ripping my gun safe out of the wall and they fled-- thank God, leaving her unharmed-- but rattled."

The Supreme Court ruled Monday that police violated the Constitution when they attached a Global Positioning System tracker to a suspect's vehicle without a valid search warrant, voting unanimously in one of the first major cases to test privacy rights in the digital era.
The decision offered a glimpse of how the court may address the flood of privacy cases expected in coming years over issues such as cellphones, email and online documents. But the justices split 5-4 over the reasoning, suggesting that differences remain over how to apply age-old principles prohibiting "unreasonable searches."

Today, while en route to Washington to speak to hundreds of thousands of people at the March for Life, I was detained by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for not agreeing to a patdown after an irregularity was found in my full body scan. Despite removing my belt, glasses, wallet and shoes, the scanner and TSA also wanted my dignity. I refused.

I showed them the potentially offending part of my body, my leg. They were not interested. They wanted to touch me and to pat me down. I requested to be rescanned. They refused and detained me in a 10-foot-by-10-foot area reserved for potential terrorists.

Sen. Rand Paul (R) of Kentucky was detained by the Transportation Security Administration Monday at the Nashville airport, in case you havent heard. A millimeter wave scanner detected an anomaly in the area of his knee, according to Senator Paul, and TSA agents then said hed have to undergo a full-body pat-down. Paul said he wouldnt submit to such a search and offered to show agents his knee, instead. They said that wouldnt suffice.

Long before Al Gore created the Internet, gun owners were busy perfecting grassroots networking. Today, gun owners have an almost unlimited number of ways to spread information crucial to our community. And, while the Internet is certainly an indispensible tool for protecting our rights, an unfortunate side effect has been the fast and easy spread of rumors. The latest of these, appearing on Internet message boards and in emails, warns of a growing trend of gangsters marking the license plates or wheels of vehicles parked at shooting clubs, gun stores, ranges and gun shows. According to the rumor, the thieves later spot or follow the marked vehicles and break into them to steal guns while their owners are elsewhere.

On January 19, a federal judge in Chicago allowed NRA-supported plaintiffs to move ahead with a challenge to that citys laws that ban anyone from possessing or carrying a handgun except in his or her home, and that ban possession or carriage of a long gun anywhere outside his or her home or place of business. The case, Benson v. City of Chicago, challenges several of the anti-Second Amendment restrictions that were enacted days after the citys handgun ban was struck down by the U.S. Supreme Court.

An anti-gun group is attempting to organize a nationwide Valentine's Day boycott of Starbucks over the coffee chain's gun policy. Starbucks does not ban guns in its stores; rather, it defers to local laws. The National Gun Victim's Action Council (NGAC) says that amounts to a pro-gun policy that endangers customers. "Starbucks allowing guns to be carried in thousands of their stores significantly increases everyone's risk of being a victim of gun violence," NGAC CEO Elliot Fineman said in a news release. "Open and conceal and carry are among the reasons there are 12,000 gun homicides each year in the U.S.

Republican Senator Rand Paul was stopped at an airport on Monday for setting off an alarm and refusing a patdown, prompting his father, U.S. presidential candidate Ron Paul, to accuse security officials of being part of an "out of control" police state.
In a harshly worded attack on the Transportation Security Administration, which handles security screenings at U.S. airports, Ron Paul, known for his strident libertarian views, said the TSA "gropes and grabs our kids and our seniors and does nothing to keep us safe." ...
On the campaign trial, Ron Paul has called for the abolition of the TSA on the grounds that it wastes taxpayer money and violates personal liberties.

The unabated crime spree even has more residents resorting to extreme self-defense tactics. In 2011, Detroit reported 34 justifiable homicides, according to Fox2 News Reporter Charlie LeDuff - a whopping 80 percent increase over the previous year. Word from the Wayne County Clerk's office is that they can't process gun registrations and concealed weapons permits fast enough to keep pace with the extraordinary demand.

This rush to arm and self-administer justice would not be encouraged or condoned under normal circumstances. But in the current lawless environment, it is easy to believe these options have broad public support.

After several recent college campus shooting incidents, many states are opening up their legislative agenda to the idea allowing students to carry guns on campus.

Utah is the only state that currently allows concealed carry at all public colleges and universities. Other than that, there is a mix between states that prohibit concealed carry on college campuses and states that leave the decision up to the college or university.

It happens because of societal ills. One societal ill, fostered by the NRA with its unlimited power, is that anyone who wants a gun has the "right to bear arms" whether the person is in full use of her or his faculties or not. So far, we haven't come up with a solution to ensure that mentally ill and delusional people can't go into any Walmart or sporting-goods stores, use the web, or go to a gun show and be able to buy whatever weapon he or she may choose to kill people. Poor background checks are a major cause.

The answers are obvious. Who says gun buyers are thoughtless and irresponsible? About 60 million Americans own roughly 270 million firearms, and 99.99 percent of them never hurt anyone. Firearms sales have jumped in the past couple of years, yet violent crime has plunged. Gun crimes in bars and restaurants fell after Virginia allowed permit holders to carry concealed guns into them. Firearm violence, while immensely regrettable, does not obviate the right to bear arms any more than media scandals obviate freedom of the press.

"I would like to offer a brief rebuttal of Mr. Rhee's incredible proposal.

Mr. Rhee, please tell me. Is the use of a firearm by a person defending their life from violent criminal attack to be classified under "malignant" or "incidental"? There doesn't appear to be a category that includes defending one's self or loved ones.

What a solution you have in suspending the Constitution and disarming all law abiding citizens in the nation. Even those who don't live in the inner city where so much crime occurs. That's it, sweeping gun laws in addition to California's existing laws that make it almost the most restrictive state in the nation.

The First Circuits decision in United States v. Rehlander, however, suggests there is a serious limit on this ability to keep guns away from people who lack the capacity to handle them. Although the court invokes a technical doctrine to avoid saying so definitively, the court strongly suggests that mentally ill individuals must be allowed to carry guns until they receive a fairly elaborate hearing declaring them unfit to use a gun:
