Right now, I'd normally be putting my feet up after an intense week of walking and admiring hundreds of beautiful guns and seeing friends at SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. It would have been my ninth year in a row attending and proudly reporting for Guns.com. My team and I would have spent the week pounding the floors to bring you all of the latest and greatest guns and gear from the largest shooting, hunting, military, and outdoor trade industry show in the world.

In 2001, as part of a group of short magnum cartridges released in the early years of the new millennium, Winchester released the first of its Short Magnums the .300 Winchester Short Magnum, commonly referred to as .300 Win Short Mag or .300 WSM. Designed for American hunters, the ammunition used a standard .300 caliber bullet, but the .300 WSM appeared like a short, stubby-looking round compared to its .300 caliber siblings.

GOP lawmakers in multiple states are aiming to relax certain gun restrictions by allowing people to carry concealed firearms without having to obtain a permit, continuing a trend that many gun control advocates say is frightening. Fifteen states already allow concealed carry without a permit, and lawmakers in nine others have proposed allowing or expanding the practice. GOP governors are backing the changes in Utah and Tennessee. Another bill expanding permitless carry in Montana has passed the state House.

She looked at me with the expression that became all too familiar early in a marriage that suggested domestic bliss might not be a priority for me.

You spent the equivalent of two-house payments on a .22 rifle. What the hell is the matter with you? she wanted to know.

I shrugged my shoulders, smiled, and said, Well, it cost about half as much as the one I really want.

This scene occurred in the early 1980s after reading about the Kimber M82, a bolt action, magazine-fed rifle chambered for the .22 Long Rifle and built with the care and craftsmanship of a fine big-game rifle.

The gun writers of the day compared it favorably to the Winchester M52, the .22 rifle that had set a high standard for American .22 rimfire rifles.

Hes an avid hunter with five guns.

But state Rep. John Cherry doesnt leave them lying around, not with a 4-year-old daughter at home. Cherry locks his firearms in a gun safe to keep them well out of little Diana's hands.

Im fine with her learning how to shoot when the time comes, but Im going to be right there, Cherry said.

Unfortunately, in a house in Detroit last week, the dad wasnt "right there," when an 18-month-old toddler got hold of his father's unsecured gun and accidentally shot his 5-year-old cousin in the neck, killing him, according to Detroit police.

Writing for the Washington Civil Rights Association, contributor Marion Bishop warns Evergreen State lawmakers now backing legislation to ban so-called high capacity magazines such a ban would be unconstitutional and will certainly be met with a judicial challenge should they become law.

While anti-gun Democrat State Senators Jeannie Darnell, Patty Kuderer, Marko Liias, Jamie Pedersen, Sam Hunt, Joe Nyugen and Claire Wilson may balk at the notion, they should consult an opinion from the Ninth U.S. Court of Appeals in a California case known as Duncan v. Becerra.

On January 22nd, the Utah House Judiciary Committee passed House Bill 60 on an 8 - 3 vote. House Bill 60, sponsored by Representative Walt Brooks (R-75), allows a law-abiding adult to carry a concealed firearm in the State of Utah, without first needing to obtain government permission. This ensures that citizens have their right to self-defense without government red tape or delays. Additionally, this legislation maintains the existing Concealed Firearm Permit (CFP) system, so citizens who still wish to obtain a permit may do so.

Its been two and a half weeks since the traumatic events in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6 when a violent insurrection was staged at the United States Capitol building in an attempted coup to take over the government and overthrow democracy itself.
