And the matter of expanding gun rights is likely to rise again. As weve opined previously, the Second Amendment is pretty settled law at this point. The Legislature would do well to heed the counsel of the late, conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, who wrote that gun rights, like any other constitutional right, are not unlimited.

Far more a statist than a liberal, former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg does understand the role armed force can play in protecting human life. He just doesnt value your life.

This point was brought home this week when the Billionaire gun control patron made clear his support for a private armed police force at his alma mater, Johns Hopkins University. According to a report from the Baltimore Sun,

Johns Hopkins is seeking approval from the [Maryland] General Assembly for a private police force to patrol the university campus in Homewood, the hospital campus in East Baltimore, the Peabody Institute in Mount Vernon and the areas surrounding those institutions.

Even in a market saturated by polymer-frame handguns, compact concealed-carry options and of course, the popular AR-15, the venerable 12-gauge, shotshell-firing platform continues to grow and develop in the market, thanks especially to the advent of compact, non-NFA, shotshell-firing firearms spurred by the development of the Mossberg Shockwave. Here are five new options we saw at SHOT Show 2019:

James Attaway has a concealed carry permit and can have firearms in his car when hes driving around town. But under Missouri regulations, hes required to have his guns locked away when his foster son is with him.

Mr. Attaway and his wife, Julie, filed a lawsuit last week saying those rules violate their Second Amendment rights to bear arms for self protection and questioning the need for stricter rules involving households with foster children.

The public this week weighed in on a proposed law that would prohibit the state from accumulating pistol transfer applications containing personal information.

House Bill 1024 would prohibit the state Department of Licensing from storing records related to pistol sales and ownership transfers in its online database.

Under the bill, Firearms dealers would no longer send applications to the state licensing department and law enforcement agencies would no longer have access to that agencys database.

After completing an investigation, based upon examination of all available physical evidence and an interview with the reporting party, it was determined by game wardens that the moose was shot at very close range in justifiable self-defense as it charged.

After reviewing all evidence in the case and meeting with the lead investigator Jordan Kraft, Crosson concurred that the shooting was legally justified under the circumstances and charges will not be filed at this time, Crosson stated in the release.

A bill to cut in half Arkansas's initial concealed carry application fee cleared its first hurdle Thursday by passing out the House Judiciary Committee.

It would cut the cost from $100 to $50 for those younger than 65, and $50 to $25 for those 65 or older.

The bill also reduces the yearly renewal fee from $35 to $25.

"We're reducing the fee on folks that have to pay to exercise their constitutional right for self-defense," says St. Rep. Jim Dotson (R- Bentonville).

If you have been silently minding your business, and were suddenly startled by a hue and cry from the far reaches of the interwebs, dont be alarmed. It is simply a generation of gun-owners who came up paying "Call of Duty Modern Warfare," shouting for excitement, joy, or some combination of the two. 2019 appears to be the year that people will be able to own a semi-automatic version of the iconic AA-12 shotgun. The manufacturer is Sol Invictus, and deliveries are expected to begin in June.

Are Concealed Carry Licenses (CCL) Constitutional?

Two attorneys in my home state of Illinois were reported, by Personal Defense World, to have challenged the states requirement for a CCL (Concealed Carry License) as unconstitutional.

Id brought this up with friends and family, and a few arguments came up against Constitutional Carry: the position that it is unconstitutional to infringe upon ones right to carry a weapon, open or concealed. The general consensus was that people should be required to undergo a certain amount of training in order to concealed carry.

On January 29th, the Washington state House Committee on Civil Rights & Judiciary will be hearing House Bill 1315 to increase the red tape for law-abiding citizens to apply for a Concealed Pistol License. On February 1st, they will be hearing House Bill 1346 to prohibit young adults under the age of 21 from receiving the vast majority of conventional ammunition available and House Bill 1319 to allow localities to infringe upon Second Amendment rights.

NY: SAFE Act Part 2 on Tap For Coming Week

It was six years ago that Cuomo declared the SAFE Act would make New Yorkers safer. Over half a decade later, there is zero evidence the SAFE Act has done anything more than punish law-abiding gun owners. During Cuomos tenure, nearly a million New Yorkers have left the state. This latest push for more gun control laws is nothing more than a resounding indictment of the SAFE Acts complete failure. What has become abundantly clear is that this is nothing more than political pandering to his extreme anti-gun base.

Several bills are going to move next week which include an accessory ban, mandatory storage, and so-called red flag legislation, among others.

And one lower court decision after another upheld the most sweeping and oppressive forms of gun control, including bans on Americas most popular rifles, bans on magazines used for self-defense, bans on dealer sales of handguns to military-aged adults, mandatory handgun licensing fees of $340, discretionary licensing for the carrying of firearms, lengthy waiting periods to acquire guns, and infeasible manufacturing requirements that effectively ban new models of handguns.

Black and Armed in America

For me, being black and armed in America is intellectually taxing. Add the fact that I am one of the most recognized gun rights advocates in the country, and it can be downright exhausting.

As a black man, some people expect me to say that being armed and black in America is dangerous. My whole life Ive heard that a black man with a gun is always going to be considered a threat. Ive also carried a gun for years and have been pulled over many times while carrying a gun with no problemsand I have no plans of stopping.

Capitalizing on the popularity of the Remington Tac-14 and Mossberg Shockwave the Remington Tac-13 represents one of the first semi-automatic entries into the burgeoning not an SBS, not an AOW firearm market. From the Remington webpage:

From the comfort of your own home, to the remote wilderness the V3 Tac-13 offers the assurance that no matter what you encounter in the world you will have adequate means to defend yourself or those you love from any threat.

Could Gun Laws Across The Country Start To Look More Like Those In Texas?

"The view of the right to bear arms that has governed Texas over the last 30 years ... that same attitude, I think is shared by several of the justices," Winkler says. "And they may find that laws that are more restrictive than the laws in place in Texas ... are too onerous and too restrictive of Second Amendment rights, and that Texas is the model for America."

Ed.: Hopefully, we can do better than TX--they have some work to do before they can live up to their reputation as gun-friendly.

It was a hearing. Not a listening.

On Thursday night, 101 people stepped up to the microphone in front of Pittsburgh City Council and Mayor Bill Peduto. They wanted to have their say.

They each were allotted three minutes to tell their story or plead their case. They spoke on a single topic: the proposals to address gun ownership and possession within the Pittsburgh city limits.

Five years after changing hands, the Village Gun Store remains a mom-and-pop success story.

Nicole and Josh DAgnese are the mom and pop. Josh works the counter, Nicole handles the paperwork. They purchased the store in 2014 and remain committed to offering the same superior customer service and deep discounts that have drawn generations of gun buyers.

We have crazy good prices, were very personal here, and were all about integrity, said Josh, a 13-year Army veteran who served three combat tours, two in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.

In Washington state, a freshly implemented ballot initiative and a raft of new bills may produce some of the tightest firearms regulations in the US. But standing in the way is a group of rural law enforcement officers who say point blank that they wont enforce any of it.

The Klickitat county sheriff, Bob Songer, is one of them. He told the Guardian that the initiative passed last November is unconstitutional on several grounds. Ive taken the position that as an elected official, I am not going to enforce that law.
