Ive carried a snub nose revolver for 25 years, first as a back-up to my duty revolver and now my duty autoloader. Im not ready to give up on wheel guns. Unlike many younger people in law enforcement who have never held or fired a revolver, I am comfortable with a wheel gun and recognize its versatility, dependability, and carry-ability. |

"When it comes to violating the Constitution, Ed Murray has expert experience," said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. "This is the guy who was publicly embarrassed in 2013 when, as a state senator, he sponsored a gun ban bill that would have allowed warrantless searches of gun owners' homes by sheriff's deputies. After that was reported, Murray and his co-sponsors scrambled to remove that language from the bill, but it still failed." |

In a push-back against state policy on weapons in state workplaces and any Senate bill related to the Oregon Firearms Safety Act, there is a move for counties, including Malheur, to adopt Second Amendment Preservation ordinances.
Two men introduced the proposed ordinance to the Malheur County Court Wednesday. Those men were Bruce Bond, of Vale, who was there in person; and Rob Taylor, of Bandon who participated in the discussion by conference call.
According to the document, the ordinance would preserve the right of people to keep and bear arms as a defense of self, community and country and to make, sell and/or buy firearms, accessories and ammunition. |

The federal government is stepping up its efforts to keep guns out of the hands marijuana users, even as legal use of the drug is spreading around the country.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives long has prohibited gun and ammunition sales to unlawful users of marijuana, citing a risk of irrational or unpredictable behavior. Now, the federal agency has added a warning to Form 4473 making it clear to anyone applying for a permit to buy a gun that marijuana remains illegal under federal law and using it means you cannot buy a gun, despite laws in Maine and a growing number of other states that allow medical and recreational use of the drug. |

So, who will fill the vacancy left by the late Justice Antonin Scalia? CBS This Morning reported that Appellate Judge Neil Gorsuch (10th Circuit) was the leading candidate last Saturday. Guy mentioned Gorsuch as well, along with the fact that the Trump White House has whittled the list to two people. Judge William Pryor, who like Gorsuch is also an appeals judge (11th Circuit) and Alabamas former attorney general, was said to be another solid pick. Yet, Guy added that Pryor isnt in the mix, and that its now two names that could be selected as the presidents formal judicial nominee next week. |

Kansas lawmakers seeking to keep university campuses, hospitals and government buildings off limits to firearms are facing a familiar argument from opponents.
Namely, that such restrictions infringe on the right to keep and bear arms protected by the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
Its a Second Amendment issue, says Rep. John Whitmer, a Wichita Republican. Its a right to bear arms issue.
Whitmer says a proposal to maintain a short list of restrictions on where people can carry concealed handguns is dead on arrival in a Legislature committed to defending Kansans constitutional rights. |

The Josephine County District Attorney's Office said it won't seek charges against a young man who shot and killed a man in the O'Brien area last year.
In a statement issued Wednesday, Chief Deputy District Attorney Lisa Turner said 46-year-old Jeffrey W. Hunsaker was shot at his home on Arrowhead Drive by the 22-year-old son of a man he was assaulting.
She also said that based on the totality of circumstances, prosecutors do not believe they can disprove self-defense - in this case, defense of others - beyond a reasonable doubt. |

A robbery turned fatal at the Rolling Oaks Mall in San Antonio on Sunday. The shooting has brought up questions about concealed carry and when its appropriate for people to intervene in such incidents.
Two men were robbing the Kay Jewelers in the mall. One of the suspects was reportedly waving a gun and shot and killed a bystander, who had tried to stop the robbers.
Another man, who some news sources are calling a good samaritan, pulled out his licensed concealed handgun and fired his weapon, critically wounding one of the robbers. The suspects shot and killed him. |

A Kansas lawmaker left a loaded firearm in a committee room at the Capitol on Tuesday.
Rep. Willie Dove, R-Bonner Springs, acknowledged in an interview Thursday that he removed a loaded .380 handgun from his ankle during a meeting of the House Education Committee two days earlier, placed it in his desk and left the room without retrieving it.
Was it loaded? Yes, Dove told reporters.
A secretary found the weapon and turned it over to Capitol police immediately, Dove said. About 10 minutes after the meeting, a Capitol worker approached him and asked if he had forgotten something. |

Following the election of Donald Trump in November, New Jersey Second Amendment Society wrote a blog post about what President Trump means for New Jersey gun owners. If you havent read it, I recommend reading it in full as theres A LOT he can do for us here. Briefly mentioned in the article we talked about his effect on the Federal Courts, but now were going to go into greater detail about what exactly it means for New Jersey. |

Though hes probably fighting a losing battle, political science professor Robert J. Spitzer stirred up a hornets nest with a Washington Post opinion piece titled The NRA wants to suppress one of guns most important safety features.
Spitzer is concerned that the new Congress will rubberstamp the National Rifle Associations proposals and undo most of the roadblocks to purchasing a silencer (or a suppressor, as the firearms industry prefers to call it). Silencers are legal in 42 states, but waiting periods, background checks, special taxes, mandatory viewing of ultrasounds of Bambis mother, etc. mean aggravation for potential owners. |

Attorney General Tim Fox squashes a controversial city of Missoula ordinance requiring background checks on private gun sales in city limits.
On Thursday Fox laid out his opinion in a letter to Speaker of the House Austin Knudsen, R-Culbertson, saying the ordinance is unconstitutional and Montana state law prohibits local governments from infringing on second amendment rights.
The background check ordinance took effect three months ago after it passed through Missoula City Council with an 8-4 vote. |

Hardiman staked out a strong position four years ago in favor of a 2nd Amendment right to carry a gun in public. He dissented when the 3rd Circuit upheld a New Jersey law that required people seeking a gun permit to demonstrate a justifiable need to be armed. Plaintiffs who had been turned down for permits sued, alleging the restriction violated the 2nd Amendment.
A district judge upheld the law, and the 3rd Circuit agreed by a 2-1 vote. The majority said that while the Supreme Court had recognized a right to have a gun at home for self-defense, it had not ruled the Constitution protected the right to carry a gun in public. |

A bill that would let colleges keep concealed handguns off campus brought self defense advocates and frustrated students alike to the Capitol on Thursday.
Both sides packed into a small committee room to testify about the possible repeal of a law set to go into effect July 1.
Under the proposed Senate legislation supported by several moderate Republicans and Democrats, certain public places would be permanently exempt from the law that would force them to permit concealed handguns. |

A Federal appeals court this week ruled that police officers are justified in frisking anyone they believe may have a weapon during a traffic stop without regard for whether the individual is legally armed.
The U.S. 4th Circuit Court of Appeals sided with a lower court in a 58-page ruling determining that officer safety should always trump personal privacy and the right to self defense. |

With Second Amendment rights and public safety concerns at the forefront, North Dakota lawmakers heard testimony on a group of gun bills Thursday, Jan. 26.
Perhaps the most contentious piece of legislation heard Thursday was the so-called "constitutional carry" bill, introduced by Rep. Rick Becker, R-Bismarck. That bill would make it legal for people who are at least 21 years old to carry a concealed firearm without a permit in North Dakota, as long as the carrier is not otherwise prohibited to do so by law. |

Yesterday, NHFC Secretary, Rep. JR Hoell and I attended the hearing on HB350, the Gun Voter Suppression Act that Scott told you about over the weekend.
There was a lot of fear-mongering by the sponsors of this extremely anti-gun bill that, if enacted into law, will place gun owners in prison for up to 7 years for merely carrying a gun (or even a small pocket knife) into a polling place. The sponsors want you to believe that all polling places are in schools and that all poll workers are fearful of people carrying guns. |
