The state senators representing the district that includes two of the states universities are split on the idea of concealed carry on campuses.
Senate District 13, which contains both Fairmont State University and West Virginia University, is represented by Mike Caputo, D-13, and Mike Oliverio, R-13. The two have differing views on the bill that would allows individuals with concealed carry permits to carry on college campuses.
Caputo was one of four senators who voted against Senate Bill 10, also known as the Campus Self-Defense Act. |

Billy Bennett Adams III, a hip-hop artist who performs as Ace NH, is not guilty of murder for shooting two men in a Lutz recording studio, a Tampa jury decided Friday.
It took the panel of six men and six women about four hours to acquit Adams of two counts of first-degree murder. They apparently heeded arguments that Adams killed Trevon Albury and Daniel Thompson in self-defense.
In the courtroom, relatives and friends of the two dead men murmured as a clerk announced the first not guilty. They began to walk out and had cleared the courtroom by the time the clerk began questioning each juror, confirming their verdict. |

Freedom Arms Group, part of Cerberus Capital Management, is defunct for a variety of reasons. Primarily, it ran up massive debt of nearly a billion bucks. And part of that debt was caused by the defense of a legal campaign waged against the company because a Bushmaster AR-variant rifle was used by the killer during the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, CT.
Nine of the families whose loved ones were murdered and a teacher who survived filed a lawsuit against Remington Arms (parent of Bushmaster) in 2014. |

Mass shootings are now commonplace in America. Over the past three years, there have been nearly 650 mass shootings a year in the United States, averaging more than one a day.
But mass shootings account for less than 1% of the more than 49,000 firearm-related deaths occurring in the United States each year. So while mass shootings grab our attention, most of the firearm-related deaths in this country are the result of homicides and suicides that occur daily. |

A bill has been introduced in the House that would regulate assault weapons. House Bill 1238, authored by Rep. Chris Campbell, D-West Lafayette, would prohibit the selling or delivering of a semiautomatic assault weapon to a person under the age of 21. This is similar to a bill by Sen. Lonnie Randolph, D-East Chicago.Senate Bill 144would also raise the minimum age to carry a handgun to 21.
Last session, Rep. Ben Smaltz, R-Auburn, proposed House Bill 1077, which repealed the law that requires a person to obtain a license to carry a handgun in Indiana. This session, Sen. Fady Qaddoura, D-Indianapolis, submitted Senate Bill 360, which would repeal HB 1077 and make it a Class A misdemeanor to carry a handgun without being licensed. |

Three recent mass shooting incidents in California have gun violence in the news again. And most assuredly loud calls for banning guns will also be heard.
Tragedies like these three incidents make me think about a line from the 1953 film Shane. In the movie the lead character Shane famously remarks to Marian Starrett, A gun is just a tool, Marian. Its no better or worse than the man using it.
While this is true, its only true up to a point. Guns are tools but they are not ordinary tools. They were invented as weapons of war. But they do serve necessary and useful purposes as well. Guns are used for hunting and other sport. They are also used for self-defense. |

If further gun control were the solution, the problem wouldve been solved a long time ago, State Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) said.
Niemerg and several local Sheriffs held a press conference on the recently passed assault weapons ban in Illinois at the Crawford County Courthouse on Thursday.
All who spoke strongly oppose the new law. |

The fourth gun I believe that we should own is an AR-15. This gun would be used for many reasons. The first reason I would choose this gun is if for some crazy reason another country invaded America, then we could help our military fight. The second reason would be is if our own government tried to take over us, we could protect ourselves from them. I would get the Ar-15 that shoots the .223 ammo. The ammo is not as expensive as other ammo.
I am an advocate of owning guns, but also making sure that they are clear of children. I would store my guns and ammo separately, so children cannot get to them. You can go to the NRA website and it can help line you up with a class where you can go and get better trained. |

America is on a razors edge. Three mass shootings within48 hours have the usual liberal suspects exploiting the carnage to push gun control.
President Biden and his acolytes keep babbling the same platitude that is as smug as it is irrelevant. After a tragic shooting, Democrats keep bleating about how no hunter needs a semi-automatic weapon to kill deer.
This snide commentary shows a complete ignorance of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. |

The judge's court order technically applies only to Texas DPS officers and local law enforcement in Fannin, Grayson and Parker Counties in North Texas. However, legal experts told the Dallas Morning News that the order may influence how local cops in other counties across Texas enforce the age restriction law. Theres only so much law enforcement that can be undertaken, Seth Chandler, a professor of law at University of Houston Law Center, told the Dallas Morning News. Given a choice between a law thats clearly constitutional and a law whose constitutionality is in doubt, they might choose to enforce the one that is clearer, Chandler added. |

A pair of South Florida lawmakers are trying to expand Florida's "red flag" law meant to keep firearms away from those who pose a threat to themselves or others.
Legislation filed by both state Sen. Lori Berman, D-Boynton Beach, and Rep. Kelly Skidmore, D-Boca Raton, would give family members, including spouses, siblings, parents, stepparents and grandparents, the ability to petition a judge to temporarily remove a gun from a relative using a risk protection order. Right now, only law enforcement can do that.
Berman told Contact 5 she's hoping her fourth attempt at filing this legislation will be a success. |

In the wake of two mass shootings in California this week, President Joe Biden has followed a heartfelt and familiar script of outrage and grief over gun violence in America, coupled with a renewed call for Congress to pass legislation banning assault-style weapons.
Such a ban has little chance of passing the Republican-controlled House of Representatives or the Senate, which is narrowly controlled by Democrats, political experts say.
But Biden's stubborn strategy continues: make a ban the focus of public discourse whenever a mass shooting occurs and put pressure on lawmakers who oppose one. |

Two things are simultaneously true. One: That the Republican party did not get the red wave that it had hoped for in the 2022 midterm elections. Two: That the Republican party improved its position in Washington, D.C., in the 2022 midterm elections, and thereby made it more difficult for President Joe Biden (D) and his allies in Congress to push through the gun-control measures they desire.
Almost as soon as the voting was over, President Biden announced that he wanted to sign a ban on pretty much every firearm sold in the United States. The idea that we still allow semi-automatic weapons to be purchased is sick, Biden told reporters, before promising: Im going to try and get rid of assault weapons. |

As one of the many responsible gun owners and as someone licensed to conceal-carry, I take issue with President Joe Biden and the Democrats once again making mass shootings about the Second Amendment and gun laws. Political opportunism aside, lets take an honest look at the tragic string of recent mass shootings.
California had three mass shootings within a few days, leaving 19 people dead and many wounded. The response to these mass shootings is a typical pattern out of the Democrats playbook: tragedy, legislation, repeat. California is among the states with the most restrictive gun laws, yet these laws did not prevent the shootings. |

Multiple Oklahoma sheriffs, including those in Oklahoma and Logan counties, say they will not enforce a recent U.S. Department of Justice ruling on firearms.
In January, the Justice Department formalized a rule to address stabilizing braces and accessories used to convert pistols into short-barreled rifles to be fired from the shoulder, ordering that any weapons with such accessories that constitute rifles under the National Firearms Act must be registered.
In a video statement, Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III said according to state law, Oklahoma law enforcement cannot enforce a rule established by the Justice Department, as opposed to a federal law established by Congress. |

But Harper released a statement saying his deputies will not attempt to enforce any federal guidelines or rules that conflict with Oklahoma state statutes.
If a Payne County Deputy encounters someone possessing a firearm with a stabilizing pistol brace and that citizen is not in the commission of a crime, then no action will be taken in regards to this most recent (Department of Justice) rule, Harper said. If they are using this firearm in the commission of a crime then they will be arrested and prosecuted per Oklahoma law.
The rule does not affect braces that are objectively designed and intended for use by people with disabilities. |

Per theGiffords Law Center To Prevent Gun Violence, semiautomatic, AR-15-style assault weapons which allow a gunman to fire at a large number of people very quickly have become "the weapon of choice" for mass shooters. Such firearms have been used in some of the deadliest and most high-profile mass shootings in recent U.S. history, including those at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas; Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida; Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut; and the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Though Congress long ago successfully enacted a ban on assault weapons, that legislation expired in 2004, and lawmakers have since failed to pass something similar... |

When a governor, along with a majority of a states legislators, decide to take a civil right from American citizens, they have decided to start a constitutional fight. In a constitutional republic with a bill of rights, such as ours, law-abiding citizens will then file suit. A legal fight with the potential to shape the law around the nation then ensues.
This is what is now taking place in Illinois. |
