You signed up for your first firearms class. That is awesome and you will certainly learn a lot. One class can't cover everything, and it is easy to get overwhelmed by all the new ideas. Your first class probably covers firearms safety.. and talks about much more.

Maybe you got a new gun for Christmas. Here is a review of what youll learn in your first class.. and what you might need to unlearn.

The challenge to the rule was brought by multiple plaintiffs, including the Bridgeville Rifle and Pistol Club a 1,200 member organization in southern Delaware. During the January 2 airing of The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer on CNN, Blitzer brought up Chicagos near-800 homicides during 2016 and blamed the deaths on Indiana gun laws. Representative Darrell Issa (R-CA-49) was the guest, and Blitzer looked at him and said, There were more people murdered this past year in Chicago than in New York, a larger city, and Los Angeles, a larger city, combined. Something is obviously very, very wrong in Chicago.

State lawmakers have a lot of ideas about what they want to accomplish this year in Olympia. Cursive writing, growlers of wine, guns, and abortion are among the topics of pre-filed bills. If you ever have had any dealings with the Associated Press, you know it to be a placid, slow-moving bureaucracy. But it can spur itself into action, as when it revises its style book (the standard for newspaper editors) which it often does along ideological lines, e.g., barring the phrase illegal immigrants to describe illegal immigrants, or its recent insistence that services such as Uber and Lyft cannot be described as ride-sharing arrangements.

One of the most overlooked aspect when carrying a firearm is your belt. Cheap belts from Walmart do not hold up with the added weight of a firearm. This added weight will cause your pants to sag. This is why there is a need for belts specifically made to carry firearms. Alien Gear has stepped up to the plate with their latest offering. They have produced the Alien Gear Gun Belts with a spring steel core. This prevents the belt from sagging like belts not built to carry firearms.

You wouldn't know it by looking at Smith & Wesson Holding's (NASDAQ: SWHC) stock price chart, but 2016 has been an exceptionally good year for the gunmaker's business. Mostly because of burgeoning gun sales, revenues soared 68% over 2015, but the transformation into a diversified rugged outdoors company, as reflected by itschanging its name Opens a New Window. to American Outdoor Brands, has helped, as well.

A couple of years ago, I made a tremendous mistake as an editor. I chose to run the then-new Remington R51 on the cover based on a review of a pre-production sample by a trusted writer. My thinking was: Remington has been around for 200 years, and the company makes iconic rifles and shotguns that are awesome. Therefore, this new handgunbased on an 80-year-old designmust be good.

Savage enters the black rifle market with its MSR-15 and MSR-10. In all, the company releases four modern sporting rifles, three chambered in .223 Rem. and the fourth in .308 Win. Three MSR-15s include the Patrol, the Recon and the Long Range. The MSR Hunter, the big game-capable rifle in the bunch, is chambered in .308 Win. All rifles are built with mil-spec uppers and lowers; some use mil-spec trigger groups. But the most interesting aspect of this new bunch of rifles is the fact that Savage has leaned on sister company Blackhawk to outfit the guns with proprietary furniture.

When Barack Obama comes to Chicago next week to deliver what is being billed as his farewell speech, he probably wont be spending any time preparing his home there for his return.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Some writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins ... Society is in every state a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one. THOMAS PAINE
