With the arrival of January many hunters are in a sad and deprived state because deer hunting season in the state of Georgia is nearly over. Take heart however, because there are other possibilities out there in the next couple of months and the pursuit of raccoons is an entertaining option.

The New Year, as with every year, will require vigilance on the part of Liberty-lovers. In particular, we expect the Second Amendment will remain under assault by those who claim to love safety. Much of that assault comes from a dishonest Leftmedia propaganda machine dedicated to advancing Democrat policies of gun control. What better way to do that than to fill papers, airwaves, TV news and websites full of fake news meant to scare people? Courtesy of Emily Miller, author of Emily Gets Her Gun, here are a few such stories from 2017.

For the last several years, Ive posted a year in review for gun owners.
The first good news was what you did during 2016. Time after time honest gun owners saved lives. Sometimes you saved yourself. Sometimes you saved many others. You stopped mass murder in December of 2016. Sorry that it took us a month to notice, but good job and thank you for carrying concealed when you can.. |

Washington State gun rights activists are hitting the ground running as the 2018 legislative session looms, with a pro-rights rally scheduled Friday, Jan. 12, and theyve even got a draft letter to circulate among lawmakers in Olympia. This comes as the state Department of Licensing has reported that more than 19,270 new concealed pistol licenses were added to the state rolls in 2017.

A weekend editorial in the Seattle Times has signaled, albeit unintentionally, the need for Evergreen State Second Amendment activists to be alert for bias as the New Year unfolds because the newspaper acknowledged that both the editorial board and news staff would like to see a headline this year announcing an assault weapons ban. |

One reason the NRA has made concealed-carry reciprocity one of its top legislative efforts is because it is integral to our inherent right of self-defense. When the House of Representatives passed House Resolution 38 (H.R. 38), or the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, in December, law-abiding gun owner saw one of the most sweeping self-defense laws advance. But the fight is not over yet, as the bill is now in the Senate where it will require a supermajority of 60 votes to pass. |

State lawmakers gathering for their regular session starting Wednesday could consider making it harder for domestic abusers to possess firearms though recent history indicates efforts to tighten access will be an uphill battle. Instead of implementing regulations, the GOP-controlled Legislature has loosened the states gun laws, capped in 2016 by an omnibus gun bill Republicans approved over a veto from then-Gov. Jay Nixon, a Democrat.

In one of his first actions since being sworn in as Westchester County Executive, George Latimer signed an Executive Order prohibiting the sale of guns on Westchester County property, including the Westchester County Center. In 1999, gun shows were banned at the County Center by former County Executive Andrew J. Spano after the mass shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado. That prohibition was later revoked by Latimers predecessor, Rob Astorino, according to Latimers office.

Many public universities dont keep track of the more than 1,000 college student suicides that occur every year a troubling reality as campus concealed carry policies spread throughout the country. The Associated Press reported Tuesday that only 43 of the 100 largest public universities included in its survey said they kept track of suicides. That data could help universities understand whether policies allowing students to carry concealed firearms on campus are associated with a rise in suicides, since experts say there isnt enough research on the issue.

Abandoning a gun in a public place could become a crime under a new bill that may have trouble making much progress in the GOP-dominated Kansas Legislature. Rep. Dennis Boog Highberger, a Lawrence Democrat, has prefiled a bill that would make the unlawful abandonment of a gun either a Class C misdemeanor or a severity level 10, nonperson felony, if the unlawful conduct results in the bodily harm or death of a person.

The second session of the 115th Congress is now upon us, and it is as clear as ever that anti-gun members of Congress just dont get it. Law-abiding Americans are tired of being scapegoats for the acts of criminals and terrorists. Year after year, we see measures aimed squarely at you and me, the very people who conscientiously learn and follow the rules. Most are opportunistically introduced in the aftermath of some high-profile crime, while emotions are still raw. We have to do SOMETHING! the activists and editorialists shriek.

Representative Tom MacArthur is a co-sponsor of HR38 which is an effort by the Federal Government to make concealed carry of guns legal in all fifty states. I write in opposition to this bill because as a citizen of New Jersey I feel that this should be a states right issue to decide. We are a small, demographically overpopulated corridor state. If a person wishes to carry a gun into New Jersey they can apply and be granted a document giving them this right by the State of New Jersey.

As we watch freedom-starved Iranians stand against an extremist regime bent on retaining power, it is a safe bet that Irans rank and file would benefit from a Second Amendment. The power structure in Iran right now is such that the right to keep and bear arms is not guaranteed by law. Additionally, only certain types of guns are allowable for private ownership, and those guns only go to people with special permission to own them. |
