Vice President Dick Cheney said Sunday that creating a new military command to coordinate the defense of North America would be "a good idea."
"The point is...that in a major crisis in the U.S., that an organization that's got uniformed troops, people who will follow orders, medical facilities, transportation capabilities, et cetera, is the U.S. military," Cheney said. "And you would want to mobilize those forces to help deal with a crisis." |

The parish priest, the Rev. Nacorda, delivered a hopeful sermon alluding to the island's struggle against the Abu Sayyaf, a violent band of Muslim rebels with a penchant for kidnapping. Then, retreating to the rectory, he removed his white robes, picked up a 9mm submachine gun and tucked a silver, .45-caliber pistol into the waistband of his bluejeans.
"It's for my protection," the priest explained. "The Abu Sayyaf do not respect life, and the military cannot provide 24-hour protection." |

When Sandra Day O'Connor was growing up on the Lazy B Ranch, family discussions at the dinner table were lively, and she and her siblings learned "the art of discussion," as she puts it.
But there was a downside, she says in "Lazy B," the new book she co-wrote with her brother, H. Alan Day. |

This month the state began using digital cameras operated from unmarked vans and mounted near intersections to catch drivers who speed and run red lights on selected state roads and highways. |

GRAND PRAIRIE - Police are "giving out" 6,000 gun locks to help avoid firearm accidents involving children.
Police officer Rick White, who works out of the north community storefront office at 169 Northeast 19th St., said "gun owners have a responsibility to keep their guns locked."
"Any time there is a gun around, it needs to be locked so that children or anybody who is not trained with handling a gun can't pick it up and discharge the weapon," White said.
KABA NOTE: There are ways of keeping unauthorized persons from firing your weapon, other than taxpayer-funded "childproof" locks. |

Education, "public safety and security" are centerpieces of the legislative agenda for the House of Representatives' Republican caucus..."Making sure classrooms are safe and secure environments for both teachers and children."
Rep. Mike Wilt, R-Bartlesville, said the caucus favors "increased security in public buildings," improved services for crime victims and "additional resources for law enforcement officers."
-- Again, "security" with no private individuals with firearms. |

Airport authorities are investigating how an Israeli managed to fly on an El Al plane to New York last week with a pistol in his hand luggage, without being detected at Ben-Gurion Airport or at the airport in New York.
-- Further proof that airline "security" is an illegal, unconstitutional JOKE. I REFUSE to fly until the govn't and the airlines recognize and honor my CCW license. Period! |

"Not surprisingly, so-called 'sportsmen' are furious with Jeep for taking shots at hunters. They flooded Jeeps customer service lines with angry calls, prompting Jeep to pull the ad after only a week. However, we have just gotten word that Jeep is considering running the ad again if enough calls come through in support of it." |

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin are not included in the revised version of the New Jersey Department of Education history standards a move some critics view as political correctness at its worst.
They don't teach the Constitution & Bill of Rights (especially the 2nd Amendment) either. Indoctrination at its finest. |

"In Chicago they appear unable to catch the real crooks--so instead they are working hard to criminalize law-abiding gun owners. Perhaps Chicagos political bosses think the citys residents should get some "law enforcement" for their tax and graft payments. But like in the days of Al Capone, that money doesnt buy very much." --Tanya Metaksa |

"On the advice of Maryland's attorney general, state police are denying guns and permits and even seizing firearms from people with decades-old convictions...But Maryland Attorney General J. Joseph Curran Jr. argues that a 1996 decision by the Maryland Court of Appeals allows state police to disqualify a person from possessing firearms based on the sentence he COULD have received."
