Providing further evidence that the Democratic gubernatorial primary will become a politically bloody bout, Robert P. Casey Jr. said Tuesday he would not sign a pledge against negative campaigning.
If you are a voter deciding whether or not one person should be entrusted with enormous power there has to be some basic scrutiny thats applied to a candidate, Casey told newspaper publishers and editors at a debate. Thats part of the process. People understand that and expect it. |

"Thank God The Post had the guts to report the real story about what happened at the Appalachian School of Law ('The Missing Gun,' Opinion, John Lott Jr., Jan. 25).
Two students were brave enough to go their cars, retrieve their guns and proceed to stop a madman from claiming more victims. However, the mainstream media managed to ignore these two heroes, in order to protect their own views on gun control." --Wayne Conger, York, Pa. |

"Though the media is touting Senate Bill 60 as a "concealed carry" bill, this legislation has serious flaws if you actually believe in freedom. In almost every area of concern, SB60 moves Colorado concealed carry law backward, not forward. For those currently with concealed carry permits, it is even worse..." --Dudley Brown of RMGO |

The mission should have been simple enough. An 18-man patrol of Afghanistan's fledgling police force moved out to seize an artillery launcher from soldiers at a medieval hilltop fort overlooking the city. But the renegade troops refused to give up the weapon. The tin-helmeted police left, though not quite empty-handed, confiscating the wheels from the weapon's trailer and rendering it immobile. |

Advocates of looser permit requirements are hoping to bring back a bill that was narrowly rejected last May, and which they say they have the votes to pass this time." --Opinion of the PioneerPlanet |

"When all else fails, vote from the rooftops." Fifty caliber rifles are terrorist weapons, the document asserts, and those who own and use them are part of a growing "sniper culture" in the United States who may soon unleash a wave of assassination and sabotage with their "superguns." The ludicrously exaggerated account ascribes to .50 caliber rifles just about every known military capability short of sinking the U.S. Sixth Fleet. |
