"Our Constitution is currently under a greater threat than a teenaged boy at a Michael Jackson sleepover. Yes, this rock solid foundational document, a major cause of our countrys amazing success, is undergoing some serious thrashing by judges, bureaucrats, politicians, prosecutors and police. I dont know about you but I do not like the fact that the very people who should uphold our rights are stretching them thinner than Fiona Apple on a rack."

"One of the basic human rights that constantly has to be defended is the right to keep and bear arms. Why did the original founders of this great American experiment toss this given, no-duh, entitlement into the Constitution? Well it wasnt so that we would be guaranteed that we could hunt squirrels and woodchucks without serving time, as great as that is. It was for the purpose of defending ourselves against perps when the cops are running a little late, and for the purpose of protecting ourselves against the government should the system go south." ...

"Three leading police organizations today urged police nationwide to be on the lookout for a small, easily concealable handgun that fires bullets that penetrate soft body armor, calling the gun an immediate threat to law enforcement officers. They also urged Congress to take appropriate action to help deal with the threat." ...

"Staff of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence recently purchased the weapon at a Virginia gun dealer and test-fired it. The bullets successfully penetrated a police Kevlar vest. A video of the test is available at www.bradycampaign.org/ler/fnh/." ...

Submitter's Note: In the full length video, John Shanks, Director of Law Enforcement Relations for the Brady Campaign actually says "... people with concealed carry licenses could legally carry this gun in their communities and you know, if theyre having a bad day or things arent good and a police officer comes in contact with that person it could turn into a very very deadly situation for law enforcement."

"The Directorate of Combat Developments and Soldier Battle Lab began an experiment Jan. 24 analyzing the current-issue M-9 handgun and possible alternative weapons."

"'I want to make it clear, this is not a selection of a new pistol,' said Charley Pavlick, project officer with DCDs Small Arms Division. 'We are responding to concerns we have from (Soldiers deployed for Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom) that report a lack of confidence in the M-9 for several reasons. This is an analysis of different features and characteristics that are available with other weapons platforms.'"

"Some of the concerns with the M-9 include many stoppages, uncomfortable function control and the low lethality of the 9mm ball round, Pavlick said." ...

"Gun-rights advocates are hoping freshman senators will make the road smoother this year for gun makers and dealers pushing a bill that would relieve them of lawsuits brought by families of gun-violence victims."

"But one of those pro-Second Amendment senators said that is unlikely."

"'As an outsider, and at this point, I am still new enough to call myself that, it appears to me that part of the Senate's difficulty with passing anything is that all the bills become Christmas trees to be decorated,' said Sen. Johnny Isakson, Georgia Republican. 'I would suspect those same amendments would cause the same problems as before.'" ...

"One day after it defeated a bill that would have banned firearms in public libraries, the Virginia Senate rejected a measure to require instant background checks at gun shows, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported Jan. 27."

"The bill's sponsor, Henry L. Marsh III, D-Richmond, complained that Virginia's resistance to closing the gun-show loophole has earned it 'a reputation as the gun-running capital of America.' Citing statistics from the National Rifle Association, Marsh estimated that 375 gun crimes are committed annually in Virginia with firearms that were purchased at gun shows." ...

"Richmond civic leaders have repeatedly turned to the legislature in recent years to halt the gun-show loophole because they believe it fuels violent crime in the city." ...

FULL TEXT BELOW:

A suspected prowler who fled after being shot by a homeowner called police yesterday for a ride to the hospital.

Just after 10 p.m. Tuesday, Jim Baer thought he shot a man peeping outside his Derry Township house on McFarland Road. The man pointed a rifle at him, Baer said, so he shot at the stranger twice with a .357-caliber handgun.

State police in Greensburg found blood in the snow, but it seemed the prowler got away.

Then a man called state police yesterday morning and said he was the prowler and that he needed to see a doctor. Police did not identify the caller.

The suspect was taken to Latrobe Hospital with a gunshot wound on his right leg.

"The news from other states is so often dominated by stories of criminal successes. Part of what makes New Hampshire special is that we, the citizens, often lord it over the criminals."

"This is partly because we have fewer thug-enabling laws than most places do. Gun restrictions, criminal-friendly self-defense rules, both are relatively lacking here, so criminals have a fairly rough time of it."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Some writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins ... Society is in every state a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one. THOMAS PAINE
