"A renowned forensic investigator died late Thursday after a rifle he was examining discharged, shooting him in the chest." -- All by itself? Highly unlikely. "Scott R. Spjut, director of the police department's Forensic Services Unit, was looking for fingerprints on the semiautomatic weapon around 4 p.m. when it fired, said West Valley City Assistant Police Chief Craig Gibson. Police were still investigating how the gun went off." -- Chances are someone pulled the trigger. |

"Some of the Founders themselves made it clear that the Fifth Circuits position isnt exactly a radical one. 'Laws that forbid the carrying of arms serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man,' said Thomas Jefferson in his 'Commonplace Book.' Alexander Hamilton wrote in 'The Federalist Papers' that no federal army could threaten our liberties as long as 'a large body of citizens,' proficient in 'the use of arms,' stands ready to defend them." ... |

"BARNEY FIFE AWARD: One fine morning in March, in the little town of Perrysville, near Ashland, the chief of police walks into the police garage and accidentally fires a shot through the windshield of his cruiser. But that's the least of it. To cover his = [100.0] mess, he drives out to a country road and fakes a traffic stop. While reporting the stop over the radio, he fires a shot into the ground to make the dispatcher think somebody is shooting at him. Then he accidentally hits the magazine button on his gun and his ammo drops out. As he tries to reload, he accidentally shoots himself in the leg. Mayberry lives." |

"Two men face hate crime charges and an attempted murder charge in Miami after one of them shot a transvestite after finding out he was a man, according to police."

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Those, who have the command of the arms in a country are masters of the state, and have it in their power to make what revolutions they please. [Thus,] there is no end to observations on the difference between the measures likely to be pursued by a minister backed by a standing army, and those of a court awed by the fear of an armed people. Aristotle, as quoted by John Trenchard and Water Moyle, An Argument Shewing, That a Standing Army Is Inconsistent with a Free Government, and Absolutely Destructive to the Constitution of the English Monarchy [London, 1697]. |
