The Seattle Times is running a poll about the popularity of the one page I-591 that prohibits confiscation without due process and makes Washington follow a national standard for registration versus the 18 page I-594 initiative that apparently has to be passed so we really know what is in it. There are a number of people even voting the 3rd option that no person should be allowed to own a gun. Not surprising for Seattle. |

A similar attempt last year failed in the Legislature. However, this year the Florida Public Defender Association has decided to back the House measure, the News Service of Florida reported last month.
The News Service reported that Combee sponsored the 2013 bill after hearing about Marissa Alexander, a Jacksonville woman who was sentenced to 20 years in prison under the states 10-20-Life sentencing law for firing a gun into a wall during a fight with her husband.
As we have said, the states Stand Your Ground law needs fine-tuning. Chiefly, someone who provokes another then winds up injuring that person should not be allowed to escape prosecution. |

Just when some of its customers were beginning to question gun accessories company Magpul Industries' sincerity about moving out of Colorado in response to anti-gun legislation passed last summer, the organization announced that it has finalized its moves to Wyoming and Texas. The company gained national attention last spring when state representative Lori Saine read a message from the firm's CEO that he would move Magpul if the legislature passed a bill banning the sale of magazines containing more than 15 rounds of ammunition. |

One of the countrys largest producers of ammunition magazines for guns is leaving Colorado and moving operations to Wyoming and Texas because of new state laws that include restrictions on how many cartridges a magazine can hold.
Erie, Colo.-based Magpul Industries Corp. announced Thursday that it was moving its production, distribution and shipping operations to Cheyenne and its headquarters to Texas, making good on a vow it made to leave Colorado during last years gun control debate. |

Longtime Democratic state Sen. Adam Kline of Seattle said Thursday he plans to retire rather than seek re-election this fall in the 37th Legislative District. The outspoken liberal and advocate of civil rights protections is in his 18th year. He announced his decision in a newsletter mailed to his Southeast Seattle constituents.
Ed.: Sen. Kline is a hard-core anti-gunner, responsible for repeatedly proposing legislation in years that would require gun owners to submit to warrant-less searches of their homes upon demand. |

A man who opened fire at two shoplifting suspects outside of the Sears at Arrowhead Towne Center told 3TV he pulled out his gun to protect himself, his wife and a loss-prevention officer.
...
The 61-year-old was parked outside of the store, waiting for his wife, when he saw the two suspects, a man and a woman, trying to exit the store.
"The security guard came to confront them. The guy pulled out a gun and pointed a gun at him, and my wife was standing there. For her well-being as well as the safety of the security kid, I had my gun; I told him to 'freeze.' She turned, pointed the gun, and I shot," Brewer said as he described the chain of events. |

Kahr Firearms Group is proud to introduce the Kahr Spyderco Delica4, a distinctive variation of one of Spydercos most popular folding knives available exclusively through Kahr.
Created by self-defense authority Michael Janich, the Kahr signature Delica4 offers Kahr its own unique design by combining a full-length handle with a compact 2.5 blade. The shorter blade makes it legal in jurisdictions with strict blade-length limitations without sacrificing leverage, control, or cutting power. |

Vice President Joe Biden took the time to brandish his Second Amendment chops, urging Americans to "just fire the shotgun through the door"' when it comes to warding off intruders.
The thing is, that's illegal in his home state of Delaware. And, among others. And a Washington state man apparently took the advice to heart, when he pled not guilty to charges over doing so firing warning shots to scare away what were believed to be car thieves. "I did what Joe Biden told me to do," he quipped. |

Alaskan lawmakers responded to the issue early last year by passing a bill that nullified federal gun-control laws and orders. Gov. Sean Parnell signed the law in June, over objections by legal experts that its unconstitutional.
Luntz says he expects speakers at the Fairbanks rally will talk about nullification and other issues involving so-called federal overreach and states rights.
A lot of different other speakers may be talking about other things nullification; jury rights; or just basically on trying to maintain our freedom and liberty, he said.
Luntz says hes also invited politicians and activists to speak at the rally. |

The number of Durham residents applying for permits to carry a concealed gun jumped 36 percent in 2013 over the previous year, according to the Durham County Sheriffs Office.
Permits to buy a pistol, however, fell 24 percent during the period. It looks like the drop is related to the fact that people would rather have the concealed-carry permit, Durham County Sheriffs Maj. Paul Martin said. |

I and my son-in-law have completed the required 16-hour course for a concealed carry permit. My cost was $190 Im a veteran and my son-in-laws non-veteran cost was $315. Then we must each pay another $150 to the state of Illinois. My total cost will be $340. My son-in-laws total cost will be $465.
My question is: How many poor people have an extra $340 or $465 to protect themselves? I dont think the politicians of Illinois have poor peoples interests in mind. |

The case involves a lawsuit brought by the owner of a landscape supply business who sought a permit to carry a handgun to protect himself from a potential robbery. His application was denied because his safety concerns didnt rise to the level of a justifiable need for a permit, a statutory standard in New Jersey. The owner claims that the requirement violates his Second Amendment rights.
Mr. Christies office says the move isnt unusual nor unprecedented and says the governor supports the law under dispute. The governor supports New Jerseys already tough gun laws, a spokesman for Mr. Christie told Law Blog. The spokesman also noted that county prosecutor offices in New Jersey are supervised by the state attorney generals office. |

Gun-friendly Texas is getting even friendlier in 2014 with new revisions to the state's concealed handgun application process including a reduction of mandatory training hours and an elimination of social security number requirements.
Texas lawmakers earned high praise from the National Rifle Association this summer after passing a record number of pro-gun bills aimed at everything from lowering license prices to prohibiting colleges and universities from restricting students wishing to carry firearms in their vehicles. |

Backers of a gun-rights initiative to the Washington Legislature reported turning in another 9,169 petition signatures on Friday in support of Initiative 591. That brought the measures total support to an estimated 350,000 signatures, said Alan Gottlieb, manager for the Protect Our Gun Rights campaign that is running the initiative.
I-591 would bar a broadening of background checks beyond current law except in the unlikely event a uniform federal standard was approved by Congress. It also bars confiscation of firearms without due process.

Now the battle between the dueling initiatives enters a new phase, as they are first considered by the legislature and then, as most political observers believe, they are put on the November ballot where the people will decide.
Gottlieb told Examiner that he is proud of the grassroots effort that has so far gone into the I-591 campaign. Not nearly as well-funded as the opposition, POGR has raised just over $700,000 while the Seattle-based Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility has raised and spent more than $1.19 million. Ironically, e-mail appeals from WAGR have created the impression that they are up against a heavily-funded monolithic gun lobby, when the exact opposite is actually the case. |

Thomas King, president of the Rifle and Pistol Association, said Friday it was important to get the appeal filed quickly.
They just wanted to get this filed as quickly as possible to show the people that we were serious and that is not a flash in the pan and were going to go after the whole SAFE Act, King said.
The gun-rights groups won a partial victory, getting the seven-bullet limit tossed.
King said they were encouraged that the judge noted that assault weapons are commonly used for lawful purposes, a statement that could help the group in the appeal. |

The state Attorney Generals Office said Friday it would appeal a part of a federal judges ruling Tuesday that tossed New Yorks provision limiting a magazine to seven bullets as part of the SAFE Act.
We will vigorously defend New Yorks SAFE Act in the Court of Appeals, said Matt Mittenthal, a spokesman for Attorney General Eric Schneiderman. He said the judge upheld most of New Yorks SAFE Act, and we will forcefully defend that ruling and appeal those parts of the decision that struck down portions of the law.
The state Rifle & Pistol Association filed its own notice of appeal. It plans to seek an appellate ruling to overturn the entire law, claiming it impedes on Second Amendment rights. |

Last year saw the City of Chicago reportedly post the fewest homicides since 1965, and the Second Amendment Foundation says one plausible explanation for at least part of the decline is because criminals can no longer be certain that their intended victim is not legally armed.
Since SAF's landmark Supreme Court victory in the 2010 McDonald v. City of Chicago case that nullified the 30-year-old handgun ban in the city, increasing numbers of law-abiding citizens have obtained firearms for personal protection, noted SAF Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb.
