"'Its about time Congress and Americas scores of millions of law-abiding firearm owners combined to really sock it to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other local gun-hating officials around the country,' gun law expert John Michael Snyder said here today." ...

"'...Anti-gun policies of Bloomberg and his ilk lead criminals to realize they generally will not face armed citizens as they engage in their nefarious activities. ...The policies of Bloomberg and company disarm law-abiding citizens and render decent people helpless in the face of violent criminal behavior. In a very real sense, the blood of the innocent is on their hands!'"

"A more balanced view is to be found in a current book, 'America's Constitution,' by Yale constitutional scholar Akhil Reed Amar. His extensive discussion of the Second Amendment includes the words, 'The Amendment's syntax has perplexed modern readers precisely because these readers persistently misconstrue the words 'militia' and 'people' by imposing twentieth- and twenty-first-century definitions on an eighteenth century text.'"

"The courts have consistently ruled that the Second Amendment does not protect individual ownership of guns. I called Morton Grove, Ill., and was assured that their gun-control law (the first in the nation) is still on the books. ..."

"Ms. DeCambra's act of witness was made possible by a law Maine enacted in 2001 that requires handguns used in homicides to be destroyed when they are no longer needed for evidence. Before that, guns were often sold or auctioned by police departments to raise money for other equipment."

"Gun control advocates, gun rights supporters, and law enforcement officials say they believe that Maine is the only state where the police allow victims' relatives to watch a gun's destruction, and the acts of witness are arranged informally by the police, not spelled out in the law."

"Watching the mayor take on certain causes in which we don't share his views, we've grown to have a good deal of respect for him, even when we think he's wrong. So we're not here to jeer at the demarche on guns that he announced in his inaugural address on Sunday. He wants a national debate about gun control, with an eye to exporting New York's strict gun control laws elsewhere. And we say, let's, by all means, have that debate. If we do, however, the mayor is likely to discover that if other states have gun control laws that are less onerous than ours, it's because other states have caught on to the fact that those laws don't cut crime."

"... You are not safe in Washington, D.C. No one is."

"It doesnt have to be this way, of course. Thirty years ago, our nations capitol was in the midst of a crime wave. The city council responded by banning handguns and requiring shotguns and rifles to be kept unloaded, dismantled, and locked away. The law abiding residents of Washington, D.C. had been disarmed, and the criminals took notice. Violent crime dipped slightly in the two years following the ban, although the murder rate actually continued to climb. By 1979, however, the violent crime rate was back above 1976 levels, and it has remained so ever since."

How Ohio's Gun Ban Extremists Try to Create the Illusion of Public Support for Gun Control

"Last August, I pulled back the curtain on the gun grabbers' Wizard of Toledo, exposing how Hoover pays herself a generous salary (plus expenses) and receives exorbitant grants from the ultra-liberal Joyce Foundation, and revealing Hoover's strategy to prop up an image of an abstract anti-gun 'public' in the minds of the press and legislators where in fact no such public exists."

"On the subject of the latter, I would now like to turn attention on the tactics Hoover has used to manipulated legislators and the media without ever having to speak to or even have them know she was involved."

"Here's a statistic Virginia should be ashamed of: The state is one of the top 10 suppliers of illegal weapons. One of the reasons is because the legislature allows the Old Dominion to be turned into a veritable bazaar for illegal weapons, where felons and others who could never acquire a weapon legally have easy access, with the state's blessing."

"That blessing comes in the form of a loophole in the state's gun laws, one big enough to drive an arsenal through: Virginia doesn't require background checks on buyers in many of the transactions at gun shows."

-------
Patent stupidity. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, about 2 percent of criminals get their guns at gun shows.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Are we at last brought to such humiliating and debasing degradation, that we cannot be trusted with arms for our defense? Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands? Patrick Henry, 3 J. Elliot, Debates in the Several State Conventions 45, 2d ed. Philadelphia, 1836
