Recent events have shown that America is on the precipice of radically redefining her ancestral right to bear arms. Every major Democratic Presidential candidate has expressed intent to push through sweeping gun control legislation, and the Virginia legislature recently voted to enact an unprecedented policy of rifle confiscations, to name a few.

As legislators prepare to head back to Jefferson City this week, Republican lawmakers are making a point to reaffirm their aversion to taking up strong gun control legislation during the upcoming session. Gov. Mike Parson held multiple meetings with a handful of metro area mayors this year as Kansas City and St. Louis, in particular, have grappled with an abundance of gun violence. Following a November meeting, news reports suggested the Republican governor agreed to back the mayors call for stronger gun control among other things.

The anti-Second Amendment crowd has argued long and hard against allowing our childrens teachers to carry concealed during the school day, but more and more schools are getting out of the way of peoples freedom. Recently, for example, Ohios Tuscarawas County saw its fifth school district make the move to allowing teachers to be armed. As The Dispatch reported: School boards at Garaway Local Schools and Claymont City Schools approved the safety measure [to arm teachers at the end of 2019].

About six months ago, I was working at a small gun store in Texas. An older gentleman wearing faded jeans, a tucked-in navy blue polo shirt, gold-framed glasses, and a hat that read WWII Vet (with ribbons and marking I did not recognize) was rolled into the store in his wheelchair. On this gentlemans lap was a faded olive drab soft long gun case and another case, but for a pistol. At first, I did not give him a second glance.

Washington State Rep. Jim Walsh (R-Aberdeen) may have his hands full when the Legislature convenes Jan. 13, fighting a package of gun control bills he says will infringe upon the rights of gun owners.

In a statement to Citizen Review.org, Walsh calls the legislative package, which has the support of anti-gun Gov. Jay Inslee and Attorney General Bob Fergusonboth Democratsand will likely get a push through the legislature, which is controlled by Democrats amateurish and constitutionally flawed.

Democrat presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg has added after-school shootings as a reason behind his relentless push for more gun control. His most recent example of such a shooting is drawn from August 2019, when nine students were shot and injured at a Mobile, Alabama, high school football game. NPR reported that the shooting occurred just before 9:30 p.m. and none of the injuries were life-threatening.

After his release from prison for breaking into a home two years ago, a 39-year-old convict allegedly returned to the same residence in Virginia where a 71-year-old man and his wife, age 62, lived. The Rockingham County Sheriff said the convict returned to the home Oct. 20 at 8 p.m. and engaged in a verbal dispute with the homeowner while attempting to enter the home. Hearing a commotion, the wife shot the convict in the torso with a handgun. The convict was taken to a medical center for treatment and was facing charges.

Gun safety measures are expected to be a major issue in Virginias General Assembly session, a prospect that has helped pro-gun groups drive up sales and protests ahead of the new Democratic majority gaveling in on Wednesday. With Democrats now in control of the Virginia House, Senate and governors mansion, a number of gun-related bills that quietly failed in subcommittees for years or that were rapidly dismissed during a special session on gun violence following last years mass shooting in Virginia Beach are expected to become law.

That's what the state's new "Extreme Risk Protection Orders" law, commonly known as the red flag law, looks like on paper -- at least at the Denver city attorney's office. "This was a very complicated bill with a lot of nuances to it," said Marley Bordovsky, Director of the Prosecutions Section at the Denver City Attorney's Office. "It took a team of lawyers in the city attorney's office to map it out on a whiteboard to figure out the exact process, and this is what we came up with."

While many praise the AR-15-style rifle for its modular nature, the Remington 870 is equally changeable, from barrel length to stock. Over the years, Ive seen every decently popular semi-automatic shotgun jam on occasion. Some need copious oil, some prefer an extra-firm shoulder, some require frequent cleaning and some demand loads heavy enough to cycle their magnum actions. Most are remarkably reliable when these particulars are met, and I routinely recommend reputable semi-automatics such as Brownings, Remingtons, FNs, Benellis, Mossbergs, Winchesters and others for home-defense.

We know that self-defense worked in the Texas church, but I was shocked at how badly gun-control failed to keep us safe.

The murderer had issues with drug abuse, homelessness, mental health, multiple divorces, domestic violence and restraining orders, and a long criminal history.

Our firearms background check system only works when prosecutors and judges do their job. When they failed, the armed citizens in the church did theirs.

In recent weeks NRA-ILA informed Virginia gun owners about gun control funding included in the state budget bill. The budget legislation, HB30, included a $250,000 appropriation to the Corrections Special Reserve Fund in order to provide for the increase in the operating cost of adult correctional facilities resulting from the enactment of Governor Ralph Northam and the Michael Bloomberg-bought General Assemblys gun control measures. In other words, $250,000 of taxpayer money that will be used to lock up gun owners who dont comply with Northam and Bloombergs unconstitutional gun laws.

Following on the heels of its rollout of the CPX-4 and an all-new CPX Red Dot lineup, SCCY Firearms announced the launch of an entirely new handgun design in its DVG-1. Initially, SCCY offerings featured a line of hammer-fired guns under the CPX moniker, available in a number of popular calibers and frame colors. However, the hammer-fired design incorporated a long, heavy, double-action trigger pull that measures about 9 lbs. To provide handgun enthusiasts with a better trigger pull and an improved shooting experience, the company developed its DVG-1 with a striker-fired design complete with a trigger pull that weighs in at 5.5 lbs., which is comparable to other striker-fired options on the market.

Local Second Amendment advocates ask residents to attend Staunton City Council's Thursday meeting and urge support for a Second Amendment sanctuary resolution. The upcoming meeting's agenda does not include any mention of guns or the Second Amendment, despite demands at City Council's final meeting of 2019. About 250 people packed City Council's December meeting, most of them demanding during the public comment period that council members take up action. A smaller portion of attendees asked council to ignore such demands.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
We'll take one step at a time, and the first is necessarily - given the political realities - very modest. We'll have to start working again to strengthen the law, and then again to strengthen the next law and again and again. Our ultimate goal, total control of handguns, is going to take time. The first problem is to slow down production and sales. Next is to get registration. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and ammunition (with a few exceptions) totally illegal. Pete Shields, founder of Handgun Control, Inc., New Yorker Magazine, June 26, 1976, pg. 53
