"That the allegations and the fear of reprisals turned out to be justified is a matter of record. I bring this up because, working with the insiders proved us right then, and lends credence to our concerns now. In spite of all the stupidity, corruption and outright evil, disbanding ATF is not in the interest of gun owners." |

"The renewal shows the committee is resolved to continue to pursue all legal avenues to compel production of documents. Of equal certainty is that Holder and the Department of Justice will continue to resist further releases beyond a November 'document dump,' relying on claims of executive privilege and the slowness of court processes." |

A push to streamline the process for obtaining a concealed pistol permit in Michigan is facing pushback as Republican Gov. Rick Snyder considers whether to sign long-discussed legislation.
Senate Bill 789, which won final legislative approval in the late hours of the 2014 lame-duck session, would eliminate county gun boards, transferring duties to county clerks, sheriffs and the Michigan State Police.
But opponents are raising red flags over a change that would allow a person who is subject to a personal protection order for domestic violence or stalking to obtain a CPL, unless a judge explicitly prohibits the individual from possessing or purchasing a gun. |

House Republicans prevailed in bringing their guns back to the House floor Wednesday, but failed in an attempt to bring back their old leader.
Returning to a policy adopted the last time Republicans led the Legislature, House members voted, 228-149, to allow people to carry concealed weapons on the floor of the chamber. Democrats had banned the practice in 2013.
But an ongoing divide in the Republican party was also on display, with the 239-member caucus splitting evenly on a rule change that would have effectively installed Rep. Bill O'Brien, the controversial former House speaker, as the majority leader. |

It was not very many years ago that the common refrain echoed by the media for any self defense shooting was that the police advised against taking the law into your own hands and the obligatory leave it to the professionals.
It is hard to know how much of this was from real police attitudes, and how much was from what the media wished to portray as police attitudes, but it was what was commonly seen. |

Admittedly, I hesitated when considering writing a piece about a firearms training instructor whom I do not know anything about. After all, I do not desire to point out someones flaws or be rude. But people in my life keep telling me about it or sending me links to it, that I just cannot avoid it, so, I figured Ive got to write something.
Instead of being rude, however, (which has become way too easy in this virtual age), Ill just point out some positives, some negatives and some other options when shooting from a vehicle that this instructor didnt mention. |

Frustrated by gridlock in Congress and unable to win over public opinion regarding the curtailment of one of Americas oldest civil rights, anti-gun activists have decided to take their fight to your local neighborhood. For a movement thats virtually stalled since Columbine, anti-gun activists are trying to model after the success of the gay marriage movement, which has won repeatedly at the state-level and in the courts. |

PBSs new special, Gunned Down: The Power Of The NRA, makes it clear the Obama administration trusted Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) to beat the NRA on gun control in 2013.
Manchin was the author of the much-touted gun control compromise bill which he and other Democrats pushed in the wake of the heinous attack on Sandy Hook Elementary. |

Legislators can again carry guns in the House chamber.
In one of the first acts of the new legislative session, the Republican-controlled House voted yesterday to allow concealed weapons in the chamber, gallery and cloakrooms, arguing the measure is needed for self-defense.
The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun, said Rep. John Burt, a Goffstown Republican. It is our duty to protect ourselves. |

Lawmakers in South Carolina will soon discuss whether students across the state should focus extra attention learning about the Second Amendment and right to bear arms.
The bill's sponsors, including Greenville County Rep. Garry R. Smith, said the Second Amendment is the most important one and it needs to be promoted.
Others in the community, like Spartanburg licensed clinical social worker, Barry Keith, are concerned that mandating school curriculum, and overemphasizing guns, could cause confusion for kids. |

People in southern Lancaster County are hearing loud explosions at all hours. The suspected source: shooting enthusiasts engaged in the legal use of targets made from ammonium nitrate and aluminum powder. In one instance, use of the targets, one well-known brand name of which is Tannerite, sent a volunteer fireman near Quarryville looking for the scene of a serious crash.
If you live in or visit southern Lancaster County, you might have heard the loud explosions, possibly significant enough to have registered minor readings on the seismographs at Millersville University and Franklin & Marshall College. |

One year ago, Illinois was forced by the courts to allow the issuance of concealed carry permits over the great objections of anti-gun rights groups. We were warned that there would be blood in the streets and carnage unbound. After twelve months of this horrid state of affairs, the police in the Land of Lincoln report that the event has turned out to be pretty much a big nothing-burger. |

On Friday night at the venerable Iroquois Rod and Gun Club, the targets hanging in the shooting range were pink, and one of the shooters wore a tiara. It was the monthly meeting of the Schenectady chapter of The Well Armed Woman, a national organization founded in 2012 by an Arizona woman put off by the sexism she encountered when she looked into buying a gun. There are now more than 200 chapters of The Well Armed Woman in 44 states. |

However, despite being shot twice, William survives and James is charged with attempted voluntary manslaughter. The prosecutors argue that James reaction was unreasonable under the circumstances and therefore criminal. Yesterday, a judge ruled against the prosecution after a two-day preliminary hearing, finding that there was no probable cause to believe James committed a crime and that his actions were not unreasonable given the way things unfolded.
James, who claimed self-defense, told local reporters on hand after the decision was handed down, Im proud to live in America. |

Sadly the Star-Telegram has fumbled the ball yet again, picking up a propaganda piece Jan. 3 from The New York Times about so-called gun safety.
The grassroots movement on this issue is dominated by the pro-2nd Amendment side.
State-level gun control initiatives like I-594 in Washington are bankrolled by billionaires who want ordinary citizens disarmed.
Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg alone outspent the NRA in this assault on the 2nd Amendment. |

Near the end of November 2014, the State of California petitioned the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals for a re-hearing of the Peruta case before a full panel of judges after a three-judge panel ruled that San Diego Countys restrictions on concealed-carry guns were unconstitutional.
Over the next month, a flurry of amicus briefs were filed by those fore and against re-hearing.
Ed.: We are now waiting to hear if the case will be heard en banc. |
