"One year ago, our nation was stunned by the murder of six innocent Americans in a shooting rampage in Tucson, Arizona. Today, we honor the memory of Christina-Taylor Green, Dorothy Morris, The Honorable John Roll, Phyllis Schneck, Dorwan Stoddard and Gabe Zimmerman. And we celebrate the lives of those who miraculously survived. "We are honored that survivors of the Tucson tragedy have joined our mission to keep illegal guns out of the hands of dangerous people. After the Tucson shooting, President Obama said the nation needs a gun background check system that is 'accurate, instant and comprehensive.' We will continue to work with the President and Congress to make that goal a reality it's long overdue." |

Hoplophobia is too big and weird sounding for normal use. Me no like big scary word. How about we make up a new one.
For men an appropriate word to describe the condition is testiclaphobia or it's close relative gonadaphobia. They are both nouns and could be defined as the fear of growing a pair. |

Gun counters usually crowded with men, are now seeing a new trend across the country. More women are purchasing pistols, but it's not surprising many firearms departments. Gander Mountain Firearms Sales Associate Nigel Lopez said, "I've seen more women interested in obtaining a pistol permit to carry concealed for personal protection. That's been the number one thing." |

Over the past couple months, Ive been trying to get a legal gun in the District. I always knew this would be a challenge, but I had no idea how time-consuming it would be to complete all 17 steps the city requires. Im not even halfway done.
My quest started in October at the D.C. Gun Registry at the police department. I met with Officer Brown, who put piles of paper on the desk between us. Heres everything you need to know, she said, pointing to a stack about a quarter-inch thick. |

Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head last Jan. 8, but the White House is downplaying the likelihood of any White House campaign-trail effort to restrict gun ownership.
I dont have anything new for you, White House spokesman Jay Carney said Thursday when asked about the anniversary. Its a solemn occasion. Its a remarkable recovery that Congresswoman Giffords has made, but we can never forget the lives lost on that day, he added.

Im happy to say that todays Ryan v. Hughes-Ortiz (Mass. App. Ct. Jan. 6, 2012) throws out the lawsuit: In November, 2001, [Charles] Milot was released on probation from the Billerica house of correction after an incarceration of about eighteen months. [Thomas] Hughes testified in his deposition that he helped Milot to get reestablished by loaning him a small amount of money and giving him odd jobs to do around his house. [During the pendency of this action, Hughes died, and his daughter, Hughes-Ortiz, was substituted as a party defendant.] Hughes knew Milot through Milots sister, Deborah McConologue, and her husband, whom Hughes had known for twenty years. |

Ever since Barack Obama was sworn in as president, the economy has misfired. Jobs remain scarce and the market has yet to recover the value it had prior to the 2007 crash. Though Mr. Obamas policies have unintentionally given a major boost to an industry he hates - firearms - even this one bright spot hasnt necessarily translated into new employment.
Take Sturm Ruger Co., one of the few publicly traded U.S. gunmakers. Anyone who happened to invest $100 in the firms stock on Mr. Obamas Inauguration Day would have about $532 today. |

Three teens who attempted to rob a judo instructor with a replica gun at a CTA station got more than they bargained for, police say.
It wasnt the judo teacher who taught them a lesson, authorities say, but an Army National Guardsman armed with a real gun.

What did the Founding Fathers mean by the above? What is the interpretation of this amendment, from a late 1700's perspective? For those who have studied history, these questions should not be difficult to answer. The answer can be readily seen in the War of 1812. This country had no large, standing army and feared that, if attacked by another country we would need all of the weapons and militia possible in order to defend ourselves. At that time, this justification for the Second Amendment was very rational and defensible. Today, it is obviously not so and really has not been so since the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848. The "...regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state" argument does not hold. |

County Commissioner Jim Adkins said he is a strong supporter of a person's right to keep and bear arms.
But there is a limit, he said. And that limit may be reached when it comes to someone extending that constitutional right to selling firearms out of his home.
"I'm a very strong Second Amendment person," Adkins said. "I just don't think residential areas are good for that type of business."
But, he added, "I can be convinced either way" and awaits more information on Tuesday.
That's when a contingent of neighbors who live in a quiet cul-de-sac off Hague Court, near County Line Road, plan to show up to voice their concerns about a resident's plan to sell firearms from his home. |

There were sombre ceremonies across Tucson, Arizona on Sunday, January 8, 2012, in remembrance of Jared Loughners shooting spree a year earlier where he seriously wounded Representative Gabrielle Giffords, killed six and wounded 12 more.
I suggest that the Untied States, is the only country in world, where remembrances could be held virtually every single day of the year for egregious killings of citizens by other citizensall indirectly supported by the National Rifle Association. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Let us contemplate our forefathers, and posterity, and resolve to maintain the rights bequeathed to us from the former, for the sake of the latter. The necessity of the times, more than ever, calls for our utmost circumspection, deliberation, fortitude, and perseverance. Let us remember that `if we suffer tamely a lawless attack upon our liberty, we encourage it, and involve others in our doom.' It is a very serious consideration...that millions yet unborn may be the miserable sharers of the event." --Samuel Adams, speech in Boston, 1771 |
