Texas man who sold gun to mass shooter without background check gets 2 years in prison

A Texas man who sold a gun to another man who later murdered seven people with it was sentenced Thursday to two years in prison.

Marcus Braziel, 45, sold an assault rifle to Seth Ator three years before Ator killed seven people and wounded 25 more in the west Texas towns of Midland and Odessa in August 2019.

But Braziel didnt run background checks on his buyers and also didnt have a license, both violations of federal law for regular gun dealers, even small-time ones like Braziel.

Braziel pleaded guilty in October 2020 to one count of dealing firearms without a license and one count of subscribing to a false tax return.

Submitter's note: They railroaded this guy. Selling a few guns does not make someone a dealer.

GOP Rep. Thomas Massie said Friday he and several other members of Congress felt relieved they were carrying firearms when a mob of rioters overpowered police and stormed the Capitol in a siege that claimed the lives of five people.

The Kentucky Republicans remarks follow a recent debate about whether lawmakers should be allowed to carry guns in the historic building.

The year 2020 saw Americans across political and demographic lines embrace their Second Amendment rights in unprecedented numbers. Last week, Representative Richard Hudson (R-NC) reintroduced H.R. 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act, which would give a more meaningful effect to those rights by ensuring they stay intact as travelers crossed state lines.

As a firearms instructor, he wants to clarify common questions of self-defense where current laws are ambiguous. He is drafting a bill more clearly identifying individuals rights in their own homes.

In looking at the Legislature as a whole, Jensen doesnt believe the Republicans increased supermajority after the last election will affect the session.

Two days before Christmas, 16 Republican state attorneys general put a lump of coal in her sock by filing a 17-page amicus brief in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York in support of the 139-year-old civil rights organization and they say some unpleasant things about their Democrat colleague.

This week, Representative Walt Brooks (HD 75) filed House Bill 60. HB 60 allows a law-abiding adult to carry a concealed firearm in the State of Utah without first obtaining government permission, while keeping the existing Concealed Firearm Permit (CFP) system intact. This is the number one priority for NRA in Utah, which will hopefully join 16 other states in allowing permitless carry.

On Jan. 4 Governor Mike DeWine signed Senate Bill 175. Many Ohio gun owning citizens have anxiously awaited the passage of this bill as specifically laid out the self-defense law that was ambiguously stated in previous legislation.

The most anticipated piece of this bill was the removal of the phrase duty to retreat prior to using self-defense against a person that is illegally in someones home. This bill removes that phrase from the legislation.

Duty to retreat was the legal requirement in the previous legislation that stated a threatened person cannot not harm another in self-defense, especially lethal force, when retreating to safety is possible.

Gov. Mike DeWine signs Senate Bill 175, saying hes trying to clear up self-defense laws. We believe that a Stand Your Ground measure makes Ohio as a whole less safe. Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan says such laws encourage vigilantes, and in a majority of Florida cases since a similar law passed, the assailant could have retreated or the person killed was unarmed. We wish the governor had stood his ground on a package of gun reform laws rolled out after 2019s mass shooting in Dayton.

House Bill 1369 allows any law-abiding adult who is legally eligible to obtain a carry permit to carry a handgun without first having to obtain government permission. This ensures that citizens have their right to self-defense without government red tape or delays. It does not affect previously issued carry permits, and allows citizens who still wish to obtain a permit in order to carry in other states recognizing Indiana permits, to do so.

This resolution pretends to speak for all Vernon County residents, opposing any and all "common sense" gun safety laws in Vernon County. No matter that I and everyone else that I know actually support these laws. No matter that Vernon County residents showed up in the overwhelming majority to oppose this very resolution at a July committee meeting. No matter that Wisconsinites and Americans - including a majority of gun-owners - overwhelmingly support common sense gun laws.

One state lawmaker wants to prohibit guns at and near public demonstrations.

State Rep. Vikki Goodwin, D-Austin, filed HB 791, which would make it a class B misdemeanor to display a firearm while attending or within 500 feet of a public demonstration.

The bill defines a public demonstration as one or more person in a public place who are demonstrating, picketing, speechmaking, marching, holding a vigil, or engaging in any other similar conduct that involves the communication or expression of views or grievances.

As we have said before, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris represent a clear and present danger to liberty, freedom, the Constitution, and the values that have made America the greatest country in the world. Given the results of the Georgia runoff election, anti-rights politicians and bureaucrats are set to control the Congress, the White House, and the administrative state, including the rogue Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Ohios new Stand Your Ground law is being challenged throughout the state.

Ward 9 City Councilman Kevin Conwell is leading the charge in Cleveland.

Conwell has written a letter to Gov. Mike DeWine expressing his displeasure and claims that the new law, state bill 175, is biased toward people of color.

Now, any licensed firearm owner from the State of Ohio has the right to shoot anyone if they feel rightfully threatened.

Since his 2005 DUI conviction, Holloway has been an upstanding, law‐abiding citizen with no other criminal convictions. He would like to own a firearm for self‐defense, so he sued in federal court, arguing that the categorical prohibition of firearms possession was unconstitutional as applied to him, a non‐violent offender. The district court sided with him, finding that he presented no special danger to the public and that his 15 years of lawful, virtuous behavior demonstrate that he is a responsible citizen.

On Wednesday, during the violent invasion of the U.S. Capitol by a mob of Trump supporters, newly-elected U.S. Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) blocked one of her constituents, former state Rep. Bri Buentello (D-Pueblo). Elected officials ranging from President Trump to a Colorado state senator have been successfully sued for blocking constituents on social media, which violates their First Amendment rights by severing their ability to participate in political discourse.
