In the Tom Cruise movie Minority Report, the year was 2054 but it seems the reality of police predicting crimes before they happen isnt so far away. The Metropolitan Police is investing in technology to forecast where offenders will strike next. In an initiative that echoes the hit film in which a precrime department detains murderers before they kill, the force is using computers to map out where future burglaries are likely to take place. Computer algorithms combine crime statistics and criminal behaviour models to produce predictive areas where burglars and muggers are likely to target. |

Dont mess with Texas has assumed a whole new meaning in Dallas. The Dallas County Sheriffs Office traveled to Fort Hood this month to acquire its own bona fide military vehicle the International MaxxPro MRAP tactical vehicle -- courtesy of a Department of Defense surplus program. According to The Dallas Observer, the sheriffs office obtained the 19-ton, diesel-operated behemoth with bullet-proof doors and tires, designed by Navistar Defense. The MaxxPro MRAP is built to withstand ballistic arms fire, mine blasts, IEDs, and other emerging threats, according to the Navistar website.

In plain English it boils down to this: The office of the state attorney told theGrio.com that when the district court heard the appeal by Alexander's lawyers, he ruled in Marissa's favor on one part of the appeal, but not on the other. In other words, Alexander will get a new trial because the jury was incorrectly instructed that she had to prove she shot in self defense beyond a reasonable doubt. But the law says she only has to raise a reasonable doubt in the jury's minds about whether it was self-defense or not. |

Forsyth County Commissioner Bill Whiteheart has said he is willing to meet with a former city council candidate who is mounting a campaign to Save Tanglewood Park from Guns and has threatened to sue the county.
...
"If Forsyth County changes the ordinance to read either both concealed weapons and open carry weapons are allowed in the park, or it reads neither concealed weapons nor open carry weapons are allowed in the park, I dont have a lawsuit, Reynolds said. |

The sound of metal hitting the floor echoed through the hallways of the childless elementary school. It was an empty clip [Ed.: Fingernails on a blackboard.] from a gun, fallen to the ground.
"That sound should be imprinted in your brain," Zach Hudson, co-founder of Defensive Tactics Solutions, told the educators in the audience. "That is the sound of survival. That is the sound of opportunity." |

Last week, a Florida court, in the wake of national outcry, granted a new trial to a woman sentenced to 20 years in prison for firing a warning shot during a fight with her abusive husband. Marissa Alexanders case became a lightning rod for a widespread sense of injustice over George Zimmermans acquittal under the states Stand Your Ground law in July. Under the guise of righting the wrong done to Alexander, Florida Republicans filed an NRA-backed bill to grant people who fire warning shots in self-defense immunity from Floridas 10-20-Life mandatory minimum sentencing law. |

Today brings upon us the dawn of SB 281, a new era of 2nd amendment infringements and the further stripping of our civil rights.
We have had a rough year so far due to the fight we put up with the bills legislation, the Gun-rush of 2013, the 77r debacle, and finally the COMAR regulations being pushed through during an emergency hearing on Sept. 23 2013.
However, we still stand strong. Oct. 1 will bring changes to how we acquire firearms and what firearms are available to us.
We have numerous battles in front of us, most of which will be taking place in a courtroom. Many have asked When are we going to take them to court?, that answer is NOW! |

The United Nations Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) was scheduled for approval in the UN last year, in July, but was suddenly pulled off the table because Barack Obama thought (correctly) that it would destroy his reelection prospects. Interestingly, in considering Obamas honesty and motives, the treaty was resurrected within a day or so after the November election.
Given Obamas record of expansively interpreting statutes and even ignoring them we have to assume that the ATT would be implemented in the broadest possible manner. And, because under cases interpreting Article I and the Supremacy Clause, a treaty has the force of law, no further congressional action would be necessary for the ATT gun bans and registration to be put into effect. |

The official website of the United States Senate features a Virtual Reference Desk section on the Constitution which offers an explanation of the Second Amendment that reads, Whether this provision protects the individuals right to own firearms or whether it deals only with the collective right of the people to arm and maintain a militia has long been debated. The passage downplays the individual right to keep and bear arms guaranteed by the Second Amendment and gives undue credence to an interpretation of the amendment long-held in disrepute and rejected by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2008 and 2010. |

Buy a $5 raffle ticket from the Rhode Island GOP, and you can buy a chance to win an AR-15 semiautomatic assault-style rifle.
Days after the General Assembly holds the first in a series of task force meetings on firearm safety and mental health, the state Republican Party is holding what it is calling Rhode Islands 2nd Amendment Celebration.
The GOP is billing the free 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. outing at the South County Rod & Gun Club in West Greenwich on Sunday as: A family day at the range full of targets, food, prizes and fun. |

On July 1, 2013, Mississippi was set to clear up any ambiguity as to whether its Constitution of 1890 and statutes allowed the open (unconcealed) carry of a firearm or other deadly weapon without a permit. That was the plan, at least, until Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith and other Hinds County law enforcement officers, as well as several state Representatives who twice voted in favor of the bill, obtained a temporary restraining order the Friday evening before the law was to go into effect. |

National Firearms Act (1934)
This measure imposed new regulations and taxes on weapons, including shotguns and firearms popular with mobsters, and require registration of these guns call it the Assault Weapons Ban of the day, if you will. Policy issues aside, a legal challenge the act, which was signed into law by then-President Franklin Roosevelt, is what makes this law so substantial. |

Because tomorrow one of the nations strictest gun control laws passed this year will go into effect.
Signed by Governor Martin OMalley, the Maryland bill will ban 45 kinds of assault weapons and require those wanting to buy handguns to undergo fingerprinting. Second Amendment supporters in Maryland crossed state lines to attend this weekends Nations Gun Show at the The Dulles Expo center in Chantilly, Virginia, and applied for a record number of guns before the bill arrives on Tuesday. |

And it is appalling that the National Rifle Association and the gun manufacturers lobby have consistently opposed both research into accidental gun deaths and common-sense safety steps that might reduce such deaths.
According to your article, the N.R.A. claims that such safety steps would make self-defense more difficult when intruders break into homes. So I have two simple and related questions for the gun lobby: |

This must be an oversight on the Obama administrations part. Your Second Amendment rights will not be impacted by a government shutdown. The FBI has told gun retailers that government shutdown or not, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) will remain alive and ready to handle gun purchases.
According to the National Rifle Associations Institute for Legislative Action, NICS will remain up and running even if there is a government shutdown.
Last week the NRA-ILA reported, The NICS system will continue to operate, because Law enforcement activities are designated as essential services and do not shut down even if the Congress and President fail to agree on funding legislation. |

Maryland gun owners and gun-rights advocates sued on Monday to block the state from implementing a law they say violates the Second Amendment by effectively barring them from buying, selling or receiving handguns. In a federal lawsuit targeting Gov. Martin O'Malley, Attorney General Douglas Gansler, state police Superintendent Col. Marcus Brown and Maryland State Police, the plaintiffs say the Firearm Safety Act of 2013, signed into law on May 16, "will result in a complete deprivation of plaintiffs' right to acquire a handgun for lawful use in their homes." |

A treaty granting the U.N. regulating authority over, among other things, small arms and light weapons creates the very strong possibility that the U.N. would pass regulations in conflict with the Second Amendment of the Constitution guaranteeing the peoples right to keep and bear arms. Would those new regulations then take precedence over the older Second Amendment? This is no small concern! |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. James Madison, The Federalist Papers, No. 46 |
