Raymond Lee Fryberg Jr. was convicted of six counts of unlawful possession of a firearm. One of the firearms, a .40-caliber Beretta pistol, was used by 15-year-old Jaylen Fryberg to kill four classmates and wound a fifth. Jaylen then killed himself with the same handgun.

Deputies went to Hammens residence and were unable to find him. Faculty and students who spoke Wednesday evening at the University of Texas at Austin's first public forum on campus carry overwhelmingly advocated keeping guns out of classrooms and other buildings, urging school officials to designate wide swaths of the school as gun-free zones.

"This is the one issue that's made me wonder whether I should stay here or not," said Steven Friesen, a religious studies professor who said he is concerned about teaching sensitive topics knowing his students are armed. "I teach volatile issues in the classroom, and it is not a place for guns."

ABC's Blackish is clearly not playing around this season. In the season premier they dealt with the n-word. On Wednesday night? Guns. If they keep up at this rate, by week six Dre (Anthony Anderson) is going to be self-identifying as a mermaid. Things are definitely escalating quickly.

In an episode titled Rock, paper, scissors, Gun, the show jumped into the gun debate by showing a scene at a gun shop that could not possibly have been written by anyone who has ever actually gone to a gun shop:

Florida lawmakers are again pushing the notion that concealed weapons have a place on college campuses, right along with backpacks, iPads and condoms.

The logic goes something like this: College campuses are prime targets with mass shooters and angry mentally-ill people who are able to get their hands on a gun. And there are not enough police on or near college campuses to thwart the threat. So, campuses will be safer should college students have access to their own weapons to be used for self-defense.

Ed.: In which the author discriminates against law-abiding adults simply because they are in college instead of in the military or already in the workforce.

As lawmakers continue preparing for the 2016 legislative session, House panels next week will take up a bill that would allow people to openly carry firearms and will get an update about a medical-marijuana law passed last year.
The House Criminal Justice Subcommittee on Tuesday will consider a measure (HB 163), filed by Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fort Walton Beach, that would allow people with concealed-weapons licenses to openly carry firearms.

The bill also calls for other changes in gun-related laws, including giving direction for judges to use "strict scrutiny" when reviewing laws dealing with the right to bear arms or self defense.

Two academics argue support for gun rights is misguided because its built on the foundation of American slavery in a piece for The Atlantic published Wednesday.

Gun-rights advocates have waged a relentless battle to gut what remains of Americas lax and inadequate gun regulations, Saul Cornell and Eric Ruben open in the article. But what the advocates do not acknowledgeand some courts seem not to understandis that their arguments are grounded in precedent unique to the violent world of the slaveholding South.

Dennis Baxleys got quite a conflict of interest.

Baxley, a state representative from Ocala, is both the architect of Floridas reckless stand your ground gun law and a millionaire undertaker who owns a string of funeral homes in Florida.

The former member of the Florida State Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers is the NRAs go-to guy when it comes to dreaming up new ways to embolden Floridians to kill each other.

At the 30th Annual Gun Rights Policy Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, last weekend, the president of the Second Amendment Foundation issued a plea to help ensure the survival of his group and others like it: Court minorities or else.

Theres some facts we have to come to grips with, Joseph Tartaro said at the second session of the three-day conference co-sponsored by the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. Within the next 20 to 30 years, the U.S. white population will no longer be the majority.

Do Second Amendment rights outweigh Fifth Amendment rights i.e. the right to life? I think, as do most folks, that there can be some limits on gun owners and that banning guns at school is reasonable. The argument of using a gun in self-defense, engaging in some sort of pitched shoot out while surrounded by students is even more disturbing than it is non-sensical, yet it is an argument advanced in this instance by some.

Ed.: Then why, when there is an 'active-shooter' situation, is the first thing they do is to call for men and women with guns to come and have a pitched shoot out to stop the shooter?

Its in its decisions that the Roberts court really shines for the right. District of Columbia v. Heller (2008) established for the first time in the courts 226-year history that the Second Amendment protects an individuals right to own a handgun. In Shelby County v. Holder (2013), Roberts wrote a majority opinion that denuded the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and ushered in an era of voter ID laws and other attempts to discourage minorities and the poor from casting ballots. In the 2015-16 session, this tendency likely will recur in cases on race relations, voting, unions, and abortion.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe vowed to keep fighting for tighter gun restrictions in Virginia after a gun-control group released a report Wednesday showing that nearly 60 percent of the states domestic homicides last year involved a firearm.
Speaking at a midday news conference at the Capitol, McAuliffe said he is committed to taking the guns out of the hands of dangerous abusers, and again voiced his commitment to what he called common-sense legislation that previously has failed to pass in the Republican-controlled General Assembly.

The report from The Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence found that of 109 domestic homicides in Virginia last year, 64 were committed with guns.

Dozens of current and former sheriffs gathered in Denver on Monday along with gun rights groups at the Byron White Courthouse. Many of those individuals are named in a lawsuit which challenges Colorados new laws.

Eleven states have their own laws mandating storage requirements for firearms, ranging from in-house storage rules to the regulation of approved locking devices. In states like Connecticut and California, gun locks must accompany private sales. Massachusetts currently has the strictest storage laws gun owners there risk punishment of 18 months in prison and fines up $7,500 if they dont store their guns with a lock or in a safe.

Fox News anchor Jon Scott falsely suggested that potential crime victims are "sitting duck[s]" if they don't own guns, citing the murder of a Texas district attorney and his wife in 2013. But according to news reports, the D.A. in that case "kept a gun 'in every room of his house." The murderer in that case had also previously killed another Texas prosecutor who had told friends he "was carrying a gun everywhere he went" because of threats.

More than 160 University of Texas professors have signed a petition declaring that they will not allow concealed carry permit holders to carry handguns in their classrooms, despite a recently passed law that allows permit holders to do so.

The professors have added their names to a Google document list to showcase their opposition to the legislation that was signed by Gov. Greg Abbott (R) in June. The law is expected to take effect August 2016, although a representative for the university system told TheBlaze Wednesday morning that the schools are still working out specific details of how the policy will be implemented.

One infamous example of this is a tweet from Shannon Watts of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America declaring that an assault weapon enables humans to shoot 10 rounds in one minute. This is an absurd claim, as anyone who has a minimum of experience with firearms or knowledge of their history will recognize. Recall the Mad Minute challenge with bolt-action SMLE rifles, at least fifteen rounds on target at three hundred yards in sixty seconds. The record was thirty-six shots in the period by Sergeant Major Jesse Wallingford, though Sergeant Instructor Alfred Snoxall may have bested that by two rounds.

One wonders if this reader would apply the same principle to car, truck or motorcycle owners whose vehicles are stolen, and later wind up involved in crimes. How many stolen cars are used in crimes, or are involved in crashes sometimes fatal and the owner walks away clean? In those cases the car owner is generally considered a crime victim; after all, he/she didnt cause the crash. If ones firearm is taken without permission, is the gun owner not also a victim of theft?

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction. St. George Tucker, in his edition of 'Blackstone's Commentaries,' 1:300 (1803).
