"Masking such advocacy as entertainment is reminiscent of something much more insidious. Subjecting audiences to propaganda to promote a government monopoly of violence and disenfranchise citizens from natural and civil rights is demonstrably manipulative and disrespectful of viewers. Its also dishonest with advertisers, who signed on to sponsor entertainment, not to finance causes that undermine the rights of their customers."

"Whether enough gun owners get involved, and whether there is time to turn the I-594 tide remains to be seen. But another point worth raising is that elections aren't supposed to be about what super-wealthy special interests can buy."

The construction worker who accused a Brooklyn cop of stealing $1,300 from his pocket during a search was actually carrying just $62 and it was all properly vouchered, the NYPD said on Thursday.
Officer William Montemarino, a 22-year veteran, was cleared of any wrongdoing by Internal Affairs after the Sept. 22 incident outside the Surfside Gardens housing project, sources told The Post.
A week later, Lamard Joye, 35, and his lawyer, Robert Marinelli, went to the Brooklyn District Attorneys Office and claimed the cop had taken $1,300.
On Thursday, Patrolmens Benevolent Association President Pat Lynch defended the officer, saying: It is time for people to start giving the cops the benefit of the doubt.

Lamard Joye was celebrating his 35th birthday with friends last month near a basketball court in Coney Island, Brooklyn. At some point, the police arrived and stopped a friend of his.
From several feet away, Mr. Joye objected. What happened next is now under investigation by the Brooklyn district attorneys office, which is in possession of a cellphone video of the ensuing confrontation.
The video of the encounter, on Sept. 16 at around 12:20 a.m., shows a police officer steering Mr. Joye against a chain-link fence to pat him down. Look, Mr. Joye says. Look, you see this? Look. The police officer reaches into Mr. Joyes pocket, removes what appears to be a folded stack of bills and steps back.

More than eight out of ten Americans say that the misuse of guns in violent crimes is a matter for the criminal justice system, not a public health issue, and that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) should not spend resources on the study of gun violence but instead concentrate on viruses and disease.

This proposed amendment to the state constitution, known familiarly as Prop 122, is at once the most important and most irrelevant question to be decided by citizens of the Grand Canyon State. The explanation of this seeming incongruity is provided below.

Important

First, as the reach of the federal governments assumed authority lengthens and the scope of state sovereignty correspondingly contracts, the obligation of state legislators to enforce the limits of constitutional federalism grows more urgent.

Resisting federal trampling of the Constitution is not only a right of state lawmakers, it is in fact a constitutional obligation.

Remember the 2013 recall? Colorado State Senators Angela Giron (D) and John Morse (D) were given the boot for their gun control votes and replaced with Republicans.

With only 25 days until the midterm elections gun owners are making their support for Rep. Cory Gardner (R) unequivocal. Fifty-six percent of gun owners claimed they would vote for Gardner if the elections were held today according the latest Fox News poll (which sampled 739 Colorado likely voters). Only 26 percent backed Udall.

The court has in the past shown reluctance to take up major legal questions that divide the nation. For instance, it has declined several times in the past 18 months to decide whether the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution on the right to bear arms extends to individuals carrying a firearm outside their homes.

Two competing measures on the Washington state ballot this fall ask voters to take a stance on expanded background checks for gun sales. One is seeking universal checks for all sales and transfers, including private transactions. The other would prevent any such expansion.

Supporters of the expanded background checks initiative who have received large donations from wealthy figures including Microsoft co-founders Bill Gates and Paul Allen have spent millions, far outpacing the anti-expansion effort.

ABC News is reporting today that anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloombergs Everytown for Gun Safety has contributed another $1 million to the campaign to pass Initiative 594 in Washington State, but gun rights advocate Alan Gottlieb, heading up the campaign for rival Initiative 591, suggested via e-mail that this signals the gun control camp may be worried.

With ballots going out in the mail sometime next week, Gottlieb who heads the Protect Our Gun Rights/Yes on 591 campaign and also is chairman of the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said this new money is an indication that I-594 backers must be running scared.

Yesterdays editorials in the Tri-City Herald and Tacoma News Tribune regarding Washington States dueling initiatives could leave rights activists wondering if the eastside publications editorial board is the only group not in media lockstep on Initiative 594.

While the News Tribune endorsed the 18-page gun control measure by astonishingly asserting that Initiative 591 the one-page alternative to regulatory excess is an ambiguous measure, the Herald called I-594 an unenforceable law. The Herald editorial board couldnt quite bring itself to endorse I-591, instead suggesting to its readers that they reject both measures.

A gun-rights group asked a North Carolina court on Thursday to prevent the state from enforcing a ban on concealed weapons at the State Fair.

Grass Roots North Carolina argues that a recent change in state law makes it legal for people to carry concealed guns at the fair. Its complaint, filed Thursday in Wake County Superior Court, says the Department of Agriculture is breaking the law by prohibiting concealed carry permit owners from bringing their guns to the fair.

Gun rights advocates have long lamented the ongoing assault against the Second Amendment by many activists across the nation. For one Indiana man, however, the issue hit especially close to home when he was reportedly fired for being a law-abiding gun owner.

According to The Times of Northwest Indiana, Nino Ferlaino worked for the property owners association of a gated community for more than two decades before a supervisor asked him if he carried a gun. While Ferlaino explained that he never carried a firearm on the job, he reportedly confirmed that he did own one.

GOAs [amicus] brief defends the Fourth Amendment property right to the security of ones person. If no law has been violated, then the government has no superior interest in detaining a person or seizing property, and thus the search and seizure was unconstitutional no matter how reasonable the police may have acted.

Thats a fair amount of permits for a county of a little over 8,000 citizens, which means that at least one in four are licensed for concealed carry of a handgun.

The second amendment to the U.S. Constitution protects the right of individuals to keep and bear arms.

How should that be applied in the 21st century?

That was the topic of debate at Albany Law School.

The panel included state lawmakers, college professors and Robert Schulz, chairman of "We The People Of New York."

They discussed the New York SAFE Act and the implications of mass shootings and the school shooting at Sandy Hook.

There are so many examples of gun-related stupidity in recent years, its hard to say a particular one best illustrates how nutty our world can be.

The case of Michael Dunn comes close, though. He was convicted last week of first-degree murder in a shooting at a Jacksonville gas station. Teenager Jordan Davis died after an argument that started over loud music coming from Davis SUV.

When asked about her views on gun ownership and the Second Amendment, Burkes answers have been so vague as to have not been answers at all. Gun owners, beware! Mr. Lewis writes a letter that expresses disappointment in my style rather than substance. When I met with him, I said specifically, I will work this issue hard to modify and defeat a bill which unfairly targets law-abiding citizens. I have a proven record of working with others on a bipartisan basis to get things done for our community. Thats exactly what I did, and while I did not seek opportunities to publicly rail against the bill, I worked it where it matters to make a difference and experts agree the House version was less onerous than the Senate bill, so we had some success, despite the bills passage.

The National Rifle Association's media arm is defending a Maryland sheriff who warned that the enforcement of gun laws could lead to a civil war between his county and the federal government.

Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis made national headlines in September after telling a local news station, "As long as I'm the sheriff in this county, I will not allow the federal government to come in here and strip my citizens of their right to bear arms. I can tell you this, if they attempt to do that, it would be an all-out civil war, no question about it."

Im proud that were going to have background and have universal background checks and that we limit the capacity of a weapon to get 94 shots off in just a few minutes, Malloy said. Thats what happened at Sandy Hook school.

Malloy added that my opponent Tom Foley is telling you he would repeal that law.

I would never, ever do that, Malloy said.

Foley responded by saying that Gov. Malloy is again not telling the truth.

I never said I would repeal the gun law, Foley said Thursday at the University of Connecticut. And I wont.

Remember the suppressor bill last legislative session that you worked so hard for? Remember how it flew through the Iowa House with overwhelming bipartisan support? Remember how excited you were when nearly every senator had pledged to vote for the bill in the Senate?

And do you remember how you felt when ONE senatorDemocrat Rob Hoggbetrayed 20 out of of 26 of his Democrat colleagues and all 24 Republican senators who committed to vote for the suppressor bill (not to mention over 80 representatives in the House!) by killing the suppressor bill in his committee and preventing a vote?

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
As I have stood in the crosshairs of those who target Second Amendment freedoms, I've realized that firearms are not the only issue. No, it's much, much bigger than that. I've come to understand that a cultural war is raging across our land, in which, with Orwellian fervor, certain acceptable thoughts and speech are mandated. Charlton Heston
